A good roster builder includes a little flexibility so a new acquisition or promotion from within during the season is possible. A bad one acquires players you cannot give away.

“The quality is there” =. “The check is in the mail.” Credibility-wise, that is.

Glasgow with a First Team debut. Maybe someone reads Big Soccer?

  5. Fire II move to 3rd place on 20 points with a flattering 4-1 win at TFCII. TFC went ahead early, but an own goal brought Fire II even. Jason Shokalook won a physical battle with a CB to put Fire II ahead. TFC missed a PK and the first half ended 2-1 to the Fire. In the second half Fire II started out well, but faded as the half continued.

Just when it looked like Fire II were going to crack in stoppage time, Sergio Oregel's long ball found David Poreba's run out of the midfield and his finish locked up the 3 points. Poreba added a second on a PK at the death. Here's a look at the Oregel to Poreba goal.

Transfermarkt has Poreba's contract expiring at the end of June. After 7 goals and an assist in 10 games, does he get a first team deal?

Nice! Poreba's run and touch were good, but it was Oregel's vision, decision, and touch that is exciting to see. Really hope his path includes a first team stint.

(You are probably aware of all this, only included it for others)
A Lake Zurich native and Fire Academy member, he was released by Fire on 7-21. He subsequently spent time with Stal Mielek II, followed by the MLS-Next affiliate of Charlotte, then Stal Mielek I. He came back to Fire II on 1-24 via a loan thru 6-24 with option to buy. His past transfers have been free so his cost and salary should be low. He plays CM and ,secondarily, DM. He has U S and Polish citizenship.

You have to wonder how well Poreba, Oregel and Glasgow would integrate into Fire I.

They are solid up and coming talent!
But they are not 'feature' ready...earn minutes like Koutsias, Barlow, and Dean...arguably.

  9. His Transfermark page says his contract with Stal expires at the end of June, so maybe he's officially a free agent.

Don't sleep on Rochester either. I don't know if he has MLS level FB/WB speed, but he may be the most improved player over last season.

Aside from maybe Koutsias they all have higher ceilings.

  12. What a strange game. For a game that ended 4-0 it never seemed Fire II were really in control. This ref let the boys play too.

On a down note, after getting called up for World Cup qualifiers in the window David Tchetchao was stretchered off with what looks like a serious injury.

CF2 had a 1-0 lead (Osorio goal) on Cbus2 for most of the game and gave up a late equalizer...setting up PKs for the extra point.

Edit: CF2 take the extra point! 7-6 in 8rounds

  20. The second Fire goal was a pretty team goal so take a peek if you can. Chaves plays the ball to the sideline and LA #60 gets caught ball watching and loses his mark. Turdean gets double teamed on the sideline, but manages to slip the ball into space for Chaves, who continued his run to the goal line. Smares makes a far post to near post run dragging the weak side defender with him. Chaves centers to a well marked Jimenez, who dummies the ball through to Morales to slot home. It ended up the match winner, and as worthy a match winner as you'll find.

WOW! He really has made some great saves in recent matches. Is he likely to reach the 6’3”+ height they like to see in goalies?

  22. Los won't reach that height and he's just fine as a 16 year old in MLS Next Pro.

Agree. Goalies do not have to be that tall to be capable. However, it does sometime seem preference is given to the taller ones.

is it random luck that the Fire pipeline have created so many strong keepers in the last decade or is there a reason for it??
