Los Tuzos were all over the Crew. Certainly not a night for teams in yellow. 11/05 - Yokohama Marinos - Al Ain 2:1 18/05 - Espérance Tunis - Al Ahly 0:0 24/05 - AS Pirae - Auckland City 0:4 (Pirae) 25/05 - Al Ain - Yokohama Marinos 5:1 25/05 - Al Ahly - Espérance Tunis 1:0 01/06 - Dortmund - Real Madrid (London) 0:2 01/06 - Pachuca - Columbus Crew (Pachuca) 3:0 UEFA: Real Madrid Club de Fútbol (Spain) CONMEBOL: TBD CONCACAF: Club de Fútbol Pachuca (Mexico) AFC: Al Ain Football Club (UAE) CAF: Al Ahly Football Club (Egypt) OFC: Auckland City Football Club (New Zealand)
MLS matches being played during continental final with one of its teams taking part. Pathetic. Btw, after naming CWC in Spanish, this tournament official name is in French? Next one will likely be in Arabic.
You better tell Mexicans they cannot reschedule matches in their territory when their country holds general elections. https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/concacaf-champions-cup-final-moved-181944072.html
I did not know about that. Anyway, it should've been solved differently. Why was the match scheduled for that day in the first place? I assume election day date is know way before. And second, league could've adjust to this pinnacle match of continental club season which they are a part of. They had one month notice. Both MLS and CONCACAF acted like uninterested amateurs.
MLS is generally more interested in promoting their marketing pet-project, the Leagues Cup. Where MLS teams have just about all the advantages over Liga MX.
Elsewhere, South Africans are wondering whether the PSL is a “farmers league” given the lack of continental success: https://www.goal.com/en/lists/is-th...the-premier-soccer-league/blt3daf1f20088ab76e
Under 5 months to go and still no clarity on host or format. Will this be as badly organised as the 2022 CWC in Morocco? Where clubs got an entire six weeks notice of the exact specifics? Just scrap this “Intercontinental Cup”. There is no room on the calendar for it. The expanded CWC is terribly flawed but there is simply no room for two FIFA club tournaments.
Again, I'm betting its only purpose is as a bargaining chip, so that Infantino can then sacrifice it and act like he conceded something when negotiations wrap up on his real prize, the CWC spectacular.
Some dates have now surfaced: https://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsCo...art-FIFA-Intercontinental-Cup-campaign-i.aspx https://hidalgosport.com/2024/08/29/el-pachuca-ya-conoce-fechas-para-la-copa-intercontinental/ 22/09 - Al Ain (AFC) - Auckland City (OFC) / Hosted in Al Ain, UAE 29/10 - Al Ahly (CAF) - Winner AFC/OFC / Hosted in Cairo, Egypt 11/12 - Pachuca (CONCACAF) - CONMEBOL / Host TBD 14/12 - Afro-Asian Winner - Americas Winner / Host TBD 18/12 - Real Madrid (UEFA) - Rest of the World Challenger / Host TBD I think the "Copa Interamericana" will have to be at the centralized location as well given the short turnaround time. I assume this location will be decided at the October council meeting. I'm going to guess Saudi or Qatar.
The original source being Al Ain itself: Official | The match schedule for the 2024 Intercontinental Cup has been confirmed 🏆🗓️ #FIFAINTERCONTINENTALCUP2024 pic.twitter.com/h9Addw01NS— Al Ain FC (@alainfcae_en) August 26, 2024 Don't know if FIFA loves getting exposed for not carrying out a live draw for the hosting priorities like they promised... A moot point now, but the schedule means that a potential MLS participant would've avoided a scheduling conflict with the playoffs after all. At the same time, the schedule indicates that we won't have the Concacaf-Conmebol showdowns actually take place in the Americas unless the entire final round is played here
At this point they should just fold all the games into the centralised location. Makes it more fair from a sporting perspective as well. Right now Auckland and possibly Al Ain are at a distinct disadvantage.
6-7 hours flight for Real Madrid for only 1 game ? I would not be surprised to be Morocco. It will be more convenient for all the teams involved: Real Madrid, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF and (probably) Al Ahly.
Called it. Doha hosts the remaining games. Including the "Copa Interamericana": https://inside.fifa.com/about-fifa/...l-update-on-fifa-intercontinental-cup-2024-tm Going forward they should just hold all the games at the neutral site. That would be fair to all. Al Ain - Auckland is on Sunday.
So, apparently FIFA wants to treat this as the annual continuation of the old Intercontinental Cup and current Club World Cup. Not just in spirit, but statistically speaking. https://www.fifa.com/en/tournaments.../2024/articles/information-tournament-details (I don't think the final word has been spoken in this regard) Unlike the initial announcement, they now say hosting "privileges" in the African-Asian-Pacific region before the neutral site are linked to the FIFA club ranking. And where exactly is this cross-confederation FIFA club ranking?
I’m sure you do. Between Saudi and Qatar I’m not expecting such games to come to the UAE anymore. Al Ain up 3:1 at halftime.
We are down to four in the Libertadores: Atletico Mineiro (BRA) - River Plate (ARG) Botafogo (BRA) - Penarol (URU) Botafogo has never won it. Nice to see such a historical side as Penarol in the final four. They eliminated Flamengo: As a reminder, the final will be in Buenos Aires.
