Libertadores Semis, First Leg: Atletico Mineiro - River Plate 3:0 Botafogo - Penarol 5:0 Ouch for Penarol, I was rooting for them. Looks like Brazil’s streak continues with an all-Brazilian final in Buenos Aires. However, there could be a first time winner with Botafogo.
Tomorrow’s “Afro-Asian” clash is sold out: https://www.kingfut.com/2024/10/23/sell-out-intercontinental-clash/amp/ Exciting match on paper, but the one-sided hosting scenario really puts a dent in the sporting integrity aspect of it. At least for me. If this is based on some FIFA cross-confederation club ranking then let’s see it. Show your work.
Al Ahly up 1:0 at the break in front of a sea of red. To make matters worse for Al Ain, the goal was a complete gift.
And it ends 3:0. Al Ahly get to lift the African-Asian-Pacific Cup and will meet the winner of the Americas for the right to face Real Madrid.
Lol that Coca Cola ass trophy they invented had me cracking up. Just do one trophy for the winner of the whole event, for crying out loud
Found it: https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detai...acific-cup-trophy-prior-news-photo/2181767493 What will be used for the final? The existing CWC trophy?
Today I learned that the CONMEBOL-CONCACAF match will be titled "FIFA Derby of the Americas". Should have revived Copa Interamericana. Then there will be the "FIFA Challengers Cup" for the next match. There will be four trophies awarded in five-match tournament.
The so called "derby of the Americas" btw is going to be played in Qatar's Stadium 974 which hasn't been used since the world cup as far as I know and was meant to be dismantled and exported but oh well I guess not. Passed by it on the way to the airport and flew over it a couple of hours late. Hasn't been used in 2 years but will host both the derby to the americas + the erm, "challenger cup".. yeah know the semi-semi-final I guess you can call it, the Al Ahly v Winner of DOTA to decide who will face Real Madrid.
https://inside.fifa.com/about-fifa/president/news/gianni-infantino-south-korea-hyundai-visit https://www.fifa.com/en/tournaments.../articles/al-ahly-ain-match-report-highlights So, are we really going to have two club world champions going forward? An annual one and a quadrennial one? Will the FIFA Intercontinental Cup only have one edition and merge into the new FIFA Club World Cup after the “inaugural” event? You know, once all sponsorship and broadcasting deals have been secured for the “new” competition?
I have never see a poorer FIFA official highlights. No intro, only goals, and all for a trophy game. OFC makes their highlights better.
@glennaldo_sf Tickets go on sale November 21: https://www.insideworldfootball.com...ifa-intercontinental-cup-qatar-2024-december/
Actually tickets went on sale today for visa card holders, a presale. I managed to bad a couple of tickets for Pachuca v Botafoga/Miniero (erm, I mean the Copa de Americas or whatever it's called) for about $20 each, and the final for about 10 times the price....
Only a few days to go until the Libertadores final. Will we see a first time winner in Botafogo? Will the Monumental sell out without Argentine involvement? So much focus is on the prize money of the 2025 expanded CWC, but we still have no idea how much is on the table for this competition.
Time for a new Libertadores winner? Botafogo up 2:0 at the half. In spite of getting a red card in the second minute!
1862981444458438693 is not a valid tweet id Well, they did it. While being out-possessed about 80 to 20.
That's cool, got to say I wanted Botafogo to win this, it's their first ever Copa Libertadores and also as they are currently top of the Brazilian League. Miniero on the other hand are in 10th place, some 30 points back, so I'm assuming Botafogo are the better team. Incredible this is only their 3rd season back in the top flight after getting relegated but what a season this has turned out to be. So I will see Botafogo v Pachuca then in 10 days time. I wonder how they will do once they get here though, as they have 2 games left to play for the Brazilian league before that, against Internacional and Sao Paolo - the latter is December 8 in what will most likely be the title decider. I assume they'll leave on the 9th, get here on the 10th, and then play the game on the 11th? That's going to be brutal considering the notorious west to east jetlag and time loss. Wouldn't be surprised if they're a bit like Palmeiras in 2021 who I remember had a similar situation and wound up not scoring a goal in Qatar but we'll see. They proved tonight that they can come back from adverse circumstances. Pachuca as far as I know have had no games since November 10
I too always favour a first-time winner as a neutral viewer. Scheduling does look tight, also for Real Madrid. Since the Nations League break they have been playing just about every three days. Real Madrid 24/11 - @ Leganes (League) 0:3 28/11 - @ Liverpool (UCL) 2:0 01/12 - Getafe 2:0 04/12 - @ Athletic Club (League) 07/12 - @ Girona (League) 10/12 - @ Atalanta (UCL) 14/12 - @ Rayo Vallecano (League) 18/12 - Final (FIFA IC) 22/12 - Sevilla (League) Pachuca have indeed been idle since November 10th, and Al Ahly have a long round-trip to South Africa before traveling to Doha. Al Ahly 07/12 - @ Orlando Pirates (CCL) 10/12 - ENPPI (League) 14/12 - Challenger Cup (FIFA IC) 18/12 - Final (FIFA IC) - Potential 22/12 - Belouizdad (CCL) Even if an exhausted Botafogo gets past Pachuca, playing Al Ahly just days later will be tough. This could be Al Ahly's best chance to finally make the final.

Thanks.
Yeah I can definitely see a Real Madrid v Al Ahly final. That would at least mean I get to see the complete package of all 4 teams. Was kind of crazy watching the game last night as I though it was Botafogo in black and white stripes and when the first goal went in was like well that's it, a man and a goal down this early, but finally realized some time later who was actually playing. Hopefully they do a better colour combination for the game v Pachuca.
Well, I suppose it's also time to bring out the statistics. FIFA have been clear that this year's winner gets added to the club world champions list as we know it. Meaning Real Madrid have a shot at a record-extending 9th title.
