I saw a bit of the beginning and aside from falling asleep on the first goal, Haiti held their own. Looks like they fell apart after subs came in.
So what's the most-interesting thing we think we've seen so far, given that not much has happened yet? Maybe the El Salvador win over the DR?
I would say the most interesting thing was how terrible Jamaica was............................... That might be the worst performance I've seen from any Jamaica team on any level in my 35 years of being a fan. I've never seen them be that uncompetitive.
Cuba-Costa Rica draw makes our group a bit more interesting and was unexpected. The third place battle is going to be tough too. Cuba and CR may need to run up the score on Jamaica
I don't know. Usually Cuba does OK at the start of events, and then a third of their team defects. They had a bunch of players defect during the 2023 Gold Cup. It's like clockwork................................
I was going to the match but since they didn't find my pass and I had to watch the Chivas match, I went to the hotel and decided to just go the next day since I came for that. It was one of the best decisions I've ever taken because a NASTY storm just came thru during the El Salvador-DR match. It didn't rain yesterday but it did today although in the end, there are more important things than soccer and things were bad rain wise in Mexico before the summer.
Heads up about broadcasting rights. ViX does not stream matches that TUDN broadcasts. ViX listed all three US group games in its upcoming games section of its website/app. I watched the Jamaica match on ViX. Later, it removed the Cuba and Costa Rica matches. I'd bet that the same restriction will be in place for knockout games. I ended up buying a (discounted) Sling subscription to watch last night's and future matches on FS1 and FS2. ViX ripped me off, only $5 but still....
The ViX was in? I hope my ViXen joke wasn't responsible. In tournament news, Canada scored late (86') to edge the DR 1-0; then Honduras fell behind before coming on strong to beat El Salvador 4-1. 4 (+3) Honduras 4 (+1) Canada 3 (-2) El Salvador 0 (-2) Dominican Republic Final group matches: El Salvador v Canada Honduras v Dominican Republic
I feel kinda bad for the DR. Two losses looks bad, but it was two 1-0 losses. (I think they're eliminated because of the head-to-head with El Salvador? Is that right?)
I'm not sure that is right. For group placement, I think it's points, goal difference, goals scored - then head-to-head.
Dereck Moncada scored for Honduras, so he currently sits atop the "Goals Scored by Children of Maynor Figueroa" leaderboard
David Vazquez and the rest of the U.S. U-20 team for the U-20 CONCACAF Championship are relocating from their current city due to a tragic incident. I kinda agree with what Jon Arnold said about this on twitter. They put the event in Celaya. A city known for cartel violence, etc. Let's be honest, it was a weird decision in the first place. THis is from a couple of years ago, but is still true. Study says Celaya, Guanajuato is the most violent city in the world - (mexicodailypost.com)
Mexico really struggled with Guatemala last night. They deserved at least draw but lost 2-1. Reminder that Guate knocked Mexico out in the quarters of the last U20.
Concacaf, in coordination with the FMF, has decided to move the remainder of the tournament to the cities of Irapuato (Estadio Sergio León Chávez) and León (Estadio León),” read a Concacaf statement. Irapuato is also on the list in the article, so good luck.
Does anyone know what is going on with Cuba/Jamaica? It is supposed to be on FS1, but they are talking about NASCAR there instead.
Because of the incident in Celaya, they moved all those matches to Leon. Thus, they moved the teams today and postponed the matches until Friday in Group A.
