And just like that Lexington pulls off a home draw against league leading Brooklyn. Sparse crowd of 1,147, their lowest of the season.
Carolina gets another really nice goal from Mia Corbin in the first half, but Ft Lauderdale scores 2 in the second half, with Kira Locklear getting a goal and assist, to pull out the 2-1 road win in front of 3,044. As the weather improves, Carolina keeps adding about 600 fans per game.
Spokane and DC going nuts in the 2nd half. A 1-0 Spokane lead flipped to a 2-1 DC lead before being tied again on a 66th minute penalty.
Spokane gets the winner at 90+3 to pull it out 3-2. Brooklyn down 0-1 at the half to visiting Ft. Lauderdale.
Brooklyn lost 0-2 at home to Ft. Lauderdale, with the Florida team moving into 1st place with the win. Tampa Bay is up 1-0 late in the second half over Carolina. I don't know how much TB spent to renovate the HS stadium they're playing in, but it looks really good. The Lexington v Dallas match this weekend was rescheduled due to weather (dust/dirt storm that browned out Lubbock yesterday stretched all the way to the DFW and delayed/cancelled flights).
Watching the Brooklyn -Dallas game and there's almost nobody at the game. How is this league going to survive and why would any potential expansion team choose this over the NWSL?
The league will possibly survive because a few of the teams are doing well and several other USL franchises are looking to add a women's team. Nobody who is buying into the Super League is seriously considering the NWSL, and most probably wouldn't even have that kind of money. Right now NWSL is commanding $110 million for expansion while the Super League requires the primary owner to have a net worth of $15 million, to put down a bond of $100k, to show the ability to finance the team for 3 years, and to have a 120 day lease lead. They're completely different worlds as D1 leagues.
Brooklyn fired their coach. Wonder what is going on that's caused them to collapse since the midseason break.
2025/26 sees Gainbridge join as the league title sponsor. https://www.uslsuperleague.com/news...aming-rights-partnership-of-usl-super-league/
Teams have 1-3 games remaining this season. Carolina is the only one to clinch a playoff spot while only DC and Lexington have been eliminated. Jacksonville is the only new team joining next season. The first two weeks of the schedule are already released with 4 games on both August 23 and August 30. The only team without a home stadium listed yet is DC Power, which makes me wonder if they might move their games to Loudoun's Segra Field instead of playing in a near empty Audi Field. https://www.uslsuperleague.com/2025-26-schedule/
Next Saturday is the final day of the regular season. Brooklyn finished their plummet down the standings and became the 3rd team eliminated from the playoffs this weekend. Carolina and Tampa Bay have made the playoffs, with Carolina locked into the 1st position overall. Spokane, Ft. Lauderdale, and Dallas are alive for the final two spots with the first two teams having 41 points and Dallas having 40. A Dallas tie vs Carolina would see them likely advance on goal differential if either Spokane or Ft. Lauderdale wins their matchup. If those two teams tie, then Dallas needs a win against Carolina to leapfrog into the 3rd spot. The playoff semifinals will be on June 7 and the championship on June 14.
Lexington and DC put on a 6 goal bonanza to finish out the season as the two bottom teams. Dallas is up 2-0 over Carolina in front of what looks like it will be their largest home crowd of the season. Less than 20 minutes + stoppage time remaining. A Dallas win means that Spokane has to win at home against Ft. Lauderdale. The Florida team makes the playoffs with a win or tie. It's 1-1 about 30 minutes in. Ft. Lauderdale opened with a goal in the 8th minute and Spokane answered in the 10th. The broadcast quality looks much better late in the season and the Dallas game even had a PIP moment to show the two goals from the other game during an injury stoppage.
Spokane and Ft. Lauderdale ends 1-1. Plenty of action but no more goals. 3,596 in Spokane for their best home crowd since their home opener. Dallas had 5,884 in attendance which just beat their home opener for the highest of the season. Final standings see Carolina, Tampa Bay, Dallas, and Ft. Lauderdale as the top 4 going to the playoffs. Tampa Bay v Dallas on Saturday at 6:30 CT and Carolina v Ft. Lauderdale on Sunday at 6 CT.
The entire 2025/26 schedule is now up on the Super League site. Regular season starts on 8/23 and ends on May 16. Winter break is between 12/20 and 1/31. DC Power still doesn't have a stadium listed. Looks like we'll get two seasons of 9 teams. Boise, North Jersey, and Ozark are currently listed as starting in 27-28 while 6 other teams haven't given a starting season yet.
Dallas scored early but Tampa Bay came back to win 2-1 at home in front of 3,038 in the first semifinal. Carolina v Ft. Lauderdale at 6 CT tonight to determine the other finalist.
55th minute goal for Carolina to go up 1-0 followed by a 69th minute goal by Ft. Lauderdale to tie it up 1-1 in front of 5,539 in Charlotte.
They go to extra time. Nothing in the first 15 minutes. Ft. Lauderdale has 2 called back in the second 15 minutes but Kiara Locklear gets a brace in the 120th minute (probably should have been called back for offside) and Ft. Lauderdale upsets the #1 seed. They'll play at Tampa Bay next Saturday for the first even Super League championship.
Tampa Bay tilted the field early but Ft. Lauderdale weathered it and started to fire back by halftime. 10-7 shots in favor of TB at halftime, score is 0-0.
Tampa finally scores in the 100th minute. Sydny Nosello gets into the box and slides one across to Fløe.
The final match was played at the Riverfront Stadium in Tampa, Florida. The attendance for the final match was a sellout crowd of 5,006!!!
