I do think Walter can be a very good midfielder for someone. maybe just not for us. Bruce would find a role for him at San Jose, I think. Lots of clubs over here, as well. However, given the Burns comments, and our search for a 10, are we telling Pulido he's here to earn the 9, and he needs to earn it because we gave Agada a new contract and like him
Rumors off reddit that we're interested in a 22 year old Brazilian d mid of some significant potential. A rising star on the team that recently sent this league Evander and Pec. Given he's too old for u22 and that we have some real need to spread money throughout all our lines, I'd guess either... Vermes is going all in on two d mids as a feature of the roster Or Radoja is leaving the team one way or another. My guess is we don't sign this guy because he's clearly way too ideal of a signing for us. The only problem is budget spend and the bloated salary of a guy who's somehow only put in one good half season in his time here.
The more likely thing given where the rumor came from is that it's either not SKC or not true. The only reports I found were MLS and European teams were there, nothing mentioned SKC other than that FanSided post and I've never seen them break something.
Okay, so is it worth bringing back Lindsey? We all know Vermes is going to start Shelton at RB, but Lindsey gives us depth from an actual RB. The MLSPA has his salary down as $310,000 guaranteed, which isn't bad, and as he's been released, can probably be negotiated down a bit. I may be mad, he may have left on horrible terms, but I don't think he did. I suppose we could be thinking RB in the college draft, as that seems to be a position that works out, and that's much more affordable. Also it would save Buzz from having to correct me when i suggest Lindsey could start, etc
If Shelton could just learn to stop ball watching and track runners better he could turn out to actually be a decent RB (though still not worth his contract). He did have some really good 1v1 defensive plays against good players last season. Problem was he had just as many bad moments leading to or at least contributing to goals against.
See for me I don't see it. I see it as we're trying to find a way to justify the salary so we seem him perform okay at RB and think it's worth it. To me it's not. This defense right now on paper isn't going to be miles better than the 66 goals that let in this year unless Fernandez turns into an MLS DOTY winner. RB is one area they have to add MLS quality level depth and I'm not sure that's Lindsey (to mschofield's question).
I do think, that no matter what flaws we see in Shelton as a right back, Vermes will be playing him there. So, what I think you're saying is that even if his contract is enormous for a meh right back, vermes loves him, and that means we really are only looking for depth at right back.
Correct, we’re not looking for a starting RB, Shelton is our starting no matter what we think of him as a player. And he’s an adequate at best one.
Yeah Buzz...I don't rate him either...I'm just saying we know he's gonna be there. Hopefully he'll at least improve in the areas he was weakest in. It'll still never justify the contract.
I dunno, he signed Liebold to start ahead of Ndenbe, didn't he? When the latter was a young DP and performing like it?
Leibold was signed before last season. Ndenbe had been decent, but unimpressive in 2022 and got replaced by Ben Sweat. He definitely wasn't performing like a U22 player at that time.
Just wondering if we missed this bit from something called footboom or something. It's from early November and i didn't see it elsewhere. It attempts to give some details on will Pulido return to Chivas. Essentially, no. But, apparenlty, it's clear that he wants to. 2 problems: He is under contract with SKC and Chivas doens't have a spot open for him. Overcome those two tiny things, though, and it's a done deal. Except for all the other problems that would then arise
The boys team just got eliminated from NAIA sweet 16 and the girls team is out of the NCAA D2 tournament. Can now shift focus from college soccer back to SKC. What did I miss?
Whole lotta nothing. Only rumors has apparently been the regular Chivas interest in Pulido or vice-versa depending on the month and a completely unsubstantiated one created by Fansided about a Brazilian Dmid who's too old to be a U22 signing.
Course I say that earlier about the Carvalho rumor and then more comes out of Brazil tonight. Still not sure I believe it, but... https://rtiesporte.com.br/com-proposta-de-clube-da-mls-mateus-carvalho-pode-deixar-vasco-em-2025/
See for me given what's already invested and on the roster at this point it makes zero sense to invest another +$2.5m in that same position when there are other needs.
Go Jennies! That would have been my guess based on timing. My girlfriend's daughter plays (played) for them. Andree Orcutt. I've been to a lot of the games this season. Tough 2 OT loss Sunday. Who do you have on the team?
Other needs, yes, but putting some real firepower in the central midfield is a necessary piece of being better than average. Just a question of, if they sign this guy, how they balance reloading the other lines. Man if we could just sell Pulido. Sigh.
I mean if they're still searching for a 10 you're then putting quite a lot of your budget in only 1 of the lines.
While true, it's possible the 10s they're hunting could fall into the wing playmaker role. A 10 isn't necessarily a central attacking midfielder. Though I would probably expect that to be their primary focus. The real answer is everything is very speculative right now, and the team needs massive investment in like half the positions...
