As long as we have suitable, if not better options (Awaziem & Murphy) I am totally fine with a Maxso exit. I may be the only one thinking this….. but I’ve wanted more out of Maxso but he hasn’t be surrounded by much so I always had a hard time deciding if he had actually had more to give. All this to say, he is what he is….a slightly above average CB. Nothing more, Nothing less. If he can go bag a wad of cash in the MIddle East…. Go, take the money and run.
Looks like next season's starting back line will contain a lot of new faces. If Maxsø goes on a transfer it could be that three new players who weren't with the Rapids last February will be starting this February. One could be Cannon, and of course it looks like Awaziem will be another.
Well, we had a great champions league run this year! The matchups are set in @TheChampions. 🔒 pic.twitter.com/L4s6Ud0KCP— Major League Soccer (@MLS) December 11, 2024 Talk about a tough ask. If we somehow survive LAFC in a best of 2, we go on to Columbus. Oof
Trading Maxso and blindly rolling the dice on a totally new CB paring for next year would be very on-brand for Padraig. This is the kind of idiocy that makes an existing problem even worse and results in the team lacking good options at a specific position for 2-3 years. As for the CCL (or whatever the hell its called now) draw, it's meh. Our odds are probably okay against any MLS club early in the season, and likely better than against a Liga MX team since they have a batter head start to get to in-season form. The competition was a lot more interesting when it still had a group stage and you could face more unique opponents. Playing the same teams a million times is boring.
Complete disagreement here. This is, based on Bogert's report, a move Maxso wants to make. You don't stand in the way of a player moving on, especially if there's a transfer fee to be had. See also Bombito. The problem is not investing in CB depth last season so we had somebody already integrated with Armas' style and the team that could step into the hole. Instead we're going to have three new starters on the backline compared to the season opener last year.
Is it rolling the dice? That pairing has trained and played together. Albeit, they started maybe 12 matches together which isn’t a lot but enough to say…. They do or don’t work well together. Add in the fact that Awaziew played 20+ matches with Cannon at Boavista and it could be perfect for a 3 CB lineup. Potentially - with that familiarity - they good get up to speed quickly.
BREAKING: San Diego FC has selected Colorado Rapids midfielder Jasper Loffelsend in the Expansion Draft.— Burgundy Wave (@Burgundywave) December 12, 2024

No great loss having ROFLsend picked up by San Diego. When I've stated in prior posts that we have a handful of guys on the roster that aren't good enough to play at this level, he is firmly in that category. Agreed, this is really the issue I have. We're having to do a hard reset on our CB pairing and hoping it'll work out. This was preventable. Yes, because Padraig is still running the show.

So much for the claim in the press release last week that LAFC would host the first leg. I thought that was weird at the time since they were the higher seeded team but thought it might have been a concession to the Colorado weather.

Was there money involved in the Navarro transfer? Anything new on our apparent interest in the winger Dominguez from Toluca?
Twellman sharing the 2025 GAM amounts for each club: Never thought we’d see the day. This gives fans and media now real transparency to talk @MLS shop which in turns keeps the accountability and pressure on front offices to perform. All good things for the league. I for one had no idea that the top 3 would be these teams. Garth has… pic.twitter.com/iRs3pyboud— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) December 19, 2024 Rapids with $3.98mil in 2025 GAM is a fair chunk of change! I wonder if this is updated to include the GAM we’ve spent on our new CB’s. Anyways, plenty of GAM to play with this offseason EDIT: Tommy Scoops with the link to the original MLS page explaining how it can be used as well: For the first time ever, MLS has made public the among of GAM each club has. This is a great step towards further transparency.MLS also listed examples of how GAM is used. It is very useful. https://t.co/WbdxNSNGu3 pic.twitter.com/KmGJhieDU1— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) December 19, 2024 Numbers are as of 12/10. Rapids made the moves with Cincy and Philly official on 12/9 and 12/10, so I presume these numbers are an accurate reflection of what we have in the coffers
It's official.... Lalas Abubakar has signed a 2-yr year deal (with 1- yr option) with FCD. Definitely replaceable on the pitch but a damn good human that is officially leaving the club. I've had a handful of interactions with him away from the pitch via a mutual friend and he was one of nicest, most humble guys you'll meet. Sad to see him leave on a personal note but... we can all agree it was time.
The schedule just dropped. https://www.coloradorapids.com/news/colorado-rapids-announce-2025-mls-regular-season-schedule Of note: RMC is back to 2 games (finally) No Miami/Messoi No month-long break for the stupid Leagues Cup 7 games in May...dafuque?
Schedule release feels early, but might not. No significant summer gap for tournaments that I could tell. When is leagues cup? We play Atlanta, whom I am excited to watch, mid-August.
Leagues Cup is being played mid-weeks this year. Only one league home game between mid-July and mid-September so we’ll see if we have a Leagues Cup home match in that time.
The Rapids have announced their preseason plan.Like each of the last two seasons, they'll report in Denver before heading down to Mexico (Santiago de Querétaro again) for Phase 1 -- friendlies vs. 3 Mexican sides.Phase 2 will be vs. MLS teams in Palm Beach, Fla.
