A lot of coaches talk to players in parking lots. Allowed to have a general hello per ncaa rules. As long as it is not recruiting. Also take a look around at all the tournaments and you will see many coaches doing it. It is what it is. Does not make you a bad or unethical coach.
Their assistant coach has multiple violations on twitter. After every commitment he posts details about who it is which is illegal. he won't say there names but puts stuff like "from the baller factory" which is nationals tag line. or put zip codes or where the kid has lived.
Yeah he is a complete clown. I’ve heard from more than one assistant in the same conference that he also bashes the head coach and claims he is the one who runs the show. Interesting character.
Thought there were signs of life for Syracuse when they got decent non-conference wins over UMass and Northeastern. But then they had a loss to Cornell and are now 0-6 in the ACC. They have gone 3-45-5 since 2019. Is there any P4 team that has come close to being this bad in conference play during that time? I can understand the first year in rebuild and a pass on the covid season but it's still been putrid since. Playing Pitt this weekend so that's another L. It's got to be a difficult place to recruit to and may never be a competitive ACC women's soccer side but they can be better than that, right?! 2024, 0-6 and outscored 2-17 2023, 0-9-1 and outscored 8-36 2022, 1-6-3 and outscored 7-14 2021, 0-10 and outscored 4-37 2020, 1-7 and outscored 5-21 2019, 1-7-1 and outscored 8-22 3 ACC wins in 53 games. 34 goals scored with 137 goals against.
Such a tough business. Did not score a goal in Big 10 play for a 2nd season and counting. Of course, they will now....
OPEN: Oregon State (interim) UC Riverside (interim) Loyola Chicago (interim) Cal Poly (retirement 6/9) North Carolina (interim; retirement 8/9) Mississippi Valley State (8/25) Niagara (8/27) Maryland (10/10) FILLED: Duke - Kieran Hall (Duke associate head; filled after Fall 2024 season retirement) San Francisco - Pinder Nijjar (interim; 9/17)
It sounds like her frustration for not getting results bled in to players mental health issues which was maybe the last straw for the Director.
I have no inside knowledge but she brought in several new asst coaches and they did not get even one goal better in the Big10. So, now one of them is in charge?? I guess there weren't many options but the roster churn there will have to continue another year or two. It kinda has to... Sometimes college sports is a mess.
I don't believe the new staff was per her request. She was way over her skis from day one. There had to be quite a big issue with players mental health to drop the hammer on game day.
Where are you getting “players mental health” from? Why is that the go to. She struggled and wasn’t successful. End of.
It's not just results. Been there only a couple years. Player complaints started early on and came to a head earlier this week.
The interim head coach at Maryland was the head men's coach at Drexel for 3 years, where he seemed to do a decent job before resigning "to pursue other opportunities," which became taking an assistant's job at a badly struggling women's program. A rather odd career transition.... Also, not scoring a goal in 16 straight league games would push the frustration level of any coach way past the boiling point and create team tension. A situation that bad is not sustainable...and wasn't.
It is an odd journey to here. He was always going to be a short-timer at Drexel. He was a Loyola (MD) men's assistant before Drexel. His family was in Maryland and he never moved his family up to Philadelphia when he got the Drexel job. He went back to Maryland to be a director of coaching at a club on the men's side (I think). About a year or less later, he popped up with Maryland.
Any insight Into what’s going on at Alcorn? Cancelled their whole season & no coach listed on the website.
I asked earlier who has had a worse conference record, and forgot about Maryland. 0 goals in Big 10 play in two seasons. Last B10 goal was October 23, 2022. Ouch. Maryland has never recovered from taking their time to hire a coach back in 2016. Jon Morgan was there 2012-2015, did well at the beginning when Pensky left for Tennessee and then struggled last two seasons before being let go. Administration there took their sweet time to make a hire and then when's soccer lost all their commits during that period. Ray Leone took over in January 2016 with a bad team and then hardly any new blood coming in with the lost commitments. He never turned it around in his 6 seasons. Nemzer didn't do much in her three seasons either, took on a lot of mediocre transfers that didn't do much. Just feels like that program has been stuck for about a decade with not the best head coaching or administration leadership. Too bad as it's a terrific public university in a hotbed and would think they could do relatively well. May not be at the level with Michigan State, UCLA, Penn St, etc. but at least be competitive.
Respectfully, I'm not sure how that answers the question. imho mental health is so important, it shouldn't be thrown around as freely as it is these days, used for things like lack of playing time, getting coached when they made a mistake, etc. Can you please elaborate so we know if this is a real issue of problematic behavior or just another "list of things the player/s didn't like"? There is a head coach listed in the staff directory (Ken Kabiru) but no 2024 roster. Early games were rescheduled, then cancelled because they didn't have enough players. Looks like they made it official and cancelled the rest.
Ouch! Nemzer compiled a 10-25-14 record in leading the program since the 2022 season. I would think that an in-season termination is an incredibly rare event in women's soccer.
Admin probably said why wait the rest of the season. Coach probably had a three year contract. This way they can get a jump start and go after mark k who is just up the road. Make a play for him.
Why is it always the players fault? And exactly why would someone share any known details on here? Gotta do your own homework pal? Many persons were involved in the process, so easy to find out what took place.
This is appalling stuff. Syracuse have been so irrelevant i didn't even realize it was this bad. I don't see why Syracuse should be any harder to recruit than Pitt. No excuse to be that bad.
There is a big weather difference between Pittsburgh and Syracuse in the back end of the season. That also may explain why Cornell typically lingers at or near the bottom of the Ivy League. Back in the day, I played in a game at Cornell well into the season and, believe me, playing was miserable.
