There's a story about Peter Veltri's "separation" on the Buffalo News website but it requires a subscription to access.
"Niagara, a private institution, did not disclose whether Veltri resigned or was dismissed by the school, and Niagara’s athletic department declined The News’ request for an interview with athletic director Simon Gray regarding the change in the program. Veltri did not immediately return messages from The News seeking comment." https://www.removepaywall.com/searc...cle_1cdba608-64bd-11ef-9a73-e77124618e04.html
Considering Denver beat Texas A&M on that same trip, Lamar losing to them isn't too terrible. Aggie fans were calling for G's job after that loss.
Tie against ACU wasn’t great either. More just curious if this is a drop off in recruiting under the new staff. Also, has anyone seen Jimmy Walkers tweet on the Creighton page? He has his own scarf collection for his new era at Creighton it is one of the cringiest things you will see. A couple of other Big East coaches are laughing their asses off some of the texts going around are amusing.
Rumors about players seeing their team bus driver drinking and driving, bringing it to the coaches attention, and no action taken.
Which is part of the story, nowhere close to the truth — and zero validity behind any drinking as well.
He would be on the bus too, so I'm pretty sure if there was drinking and driving he wouldn't want to be on there either....
Niagara goes with an ECNL club coach for an interim period https://purpleeagles.com/news/2024/8/31/dade-tabbed-interim-head-coach-of-niagara-womens-soccer.aspx
Former MLS player with an A license who lives ~25 miles away and was willing to jump in on a few days notice. As far as interims go, this is a home run.
Eric Dade is a baller. Probably could've had several professional head coaching positions by now if that's where his interest was. He's more legit than most full-time head coaches in NCAA, even with the interim tag. I know nothing of the situation but I assume that he'll do exactly what the school wants an interim coach to do, serve in the position while they find a person to hire as the full-time coach.
Discussed UMD plenty. She's in year 3 of at least a 5-year deal. Anyone could agree to part ways and negotiate that but not many schools want to pay for a buy-out for an olympic sports coach if there is no 'cause' to cancel. No question there's tons of pressure there after being so poor last year. Those wins by American and George Mason are historic for them, esp given the Mason situation having just removed their coach. They have 2 supposedly winnable non conf games left and they don't have any of the new CA teams in the Big and no West coast trips. OR and UW come to them. But that final 3 game stretch at Minn/Wis and then at Rutgers is going to be telling.
Michigan is a strange one. Last year after a win at a ranked Northwestern, they were sitting at 6-1-2 (including a win at Notre Dame and tie at UVA). Since that point, they are 1-11-2 (0-5 this year) with only win being against Maryland. Granted they had a losing record the year before in 2022, but it is a bit of an odd drop off when you look at it from afar.
Looking at Massey, they were favored vs Utah Valley and Ball State losing both by a 2-1 score. The other three they weren't favored and the scores reflected that. Honestly they look like a team ranked outside the 100 and will be hard pressed to win 4 games.
UMD could play the bottom of the B1G(Purdue, Oregon, Minnesota and Illinois) 10x and would still probably have 1 or 0 wins. The only team they might have a chance against is Oregon(another one we have discussed plenty). Maryland is absolutely in a hot seat. Staff changes point in that direction. Reeks desperation. Non-conference does not help their case. Michigan has one more year in her contract. Still, should be worried. A school with that name should be competing for more nationally let alone in-state, yet they seem to be the 3rd arguably this years 4th soccer school in the state of Michigan. How about Iowa St.? Hot seat or doing what's expected of them?
Fannon signed an extension through the 2026 season at Iowa state. Makes him safe for at least another year, if not the full two. Must have a good agent.
Shaping up to be a down year for the Big 12 overall - maybe Iowa state can pick off a few easy conference wins with other bottom feeding teams to help save Fannon - and his agent.
