Says the guy who was cut from his high school team, can’t get a coaching job to save his life, and gave the same tired sexist rants about the UCLA and USC coaches. Both who served up some serious crow to you. You have zero credibility. Cut with the bullshit. If you ever leave this board you will not be missed.
Indy hired a high school coach. If this was football this hire would be a laughing stock across the nation, but apparently womens soccer is fine with having incredibly low standards with hires.

Not necessarily. UNLV did it about 10 years ago, coach didn’t do great, but is still a DI head coach today.
Tony Sanchez. Now at New Mexico. Was 155-47 in his HS coaching career. Certainly has not had the same success at college, but in his second DI HC job. Kevin Kelley also did it from HS to Presbyterian (1 season) in 2021. His claim to fame is being the coach who never punts. He was highly touted to make several jumps through his tenure at Pulaski Academy in Arkansas.
Just do like so many others, and just ignore the guy. He never offers anything of value so just keep it moving.
Oh I was confused we were talking about soccer coaches and you put in an American Football coach as an example.
Ok so time to share a bit more on IU Indy. And before you say, oh you must be bitter because you didn’t get the job, you aren’t wrong. But I have more frustration with how it all happened. So although the job is a sucky one and the pay was not good, some people do just want an opportunity. And I would say I believe there are many others who have put in the time and effort along the PATH to becoming a D1 Head Coach. I will begin that when I was told they went with another candidate, the first line from the AD was “I was given a very specific directive from the university on which direction to go with this hire”. So there we go. He said it without saying it. Even though I don’t agree with that, I can accept it if you go get someone who is qualified. Throughout the interviews, I asked the AD if he had any concerns about my resume. He said the only thing he could come up with is me being out of the college game for 2 years. So what do they do, they get someone who has been out for 25+ years. That stings. A few more things… I can confirm that they did not call any of my references and/or past employers. I can confirm that they did not call her current (now past) employer. That tells me it was decided on right away. Also, they did all interviews via Zoom. All 3 of the final candidates lived within 30 minutes of campus and they did zoom! I can also confirm that in her husbands (in typical IU fashion, Google him and it may answer some questions) FB post, he mentions how she was a finalist for the IU Bloomington job 6 years ago. Sit on that for a second. I’m bitter, I’m upset but I’m more frustrated because I’ve always been a believer in hard work pays off. I’ve believed in the journey. There are a lot of young coaches out there starting at the bottom. Putting in the hours with very little pay to get an opportunity. Instead, this case shows us it’s another example in often it’s who you know that can get you places in no time. We will see how she does and for the players sake I hope it goes well.
its who you know that gets you the job its what you know that determines how long you get to keep that job.
It’s appalling that these hires are based on gender and not merit. But Indy and K State have both shown they don’t care about womens soccer or the athletes.
You did not mention if you are more qualified than her? Did you coach in the Big Ten and Big East? Do you have her head coaching record? Did you play for the national team? She can coach if she is winning that much. She is clearly qualified. Just a hunch though, that if she applied for a men's job, she would be at a disadvantage. It works both ways. You chose to coach in the women's game. She has much less real choice than you do. Gus Malzahn is an example of a high school football coach who was hired for a college football job in the SEC at Auburn. They paid him hundreds of thousands of dollars too - straight out of high school with no collegiate experience.
@Collegewhispers you get to be a jackass now and then but you are our special BS jackass Your one-word responses are quite childish though. I've certainly said some objectionable things here just to be provocative. That's what an anonymous forum is for I'm pretty sure. Just don't be so personal about it folks and have a good take worth reading! Below is from the coaches wire that anyone could subscribe to. Makes her sound pretty good. Were any of those other candidates former US NT players? Regardless of gender? Just curious. What would you do if you were the AD and a former USWNT player applies?? Who is in your area Hall of Fame? Be honest. Would be considered "appalling" by many to not hire that person. IU Indianapolis: Former US women’s national team player and Indiana Soccer Hall of Famer Angela Berry White has been named the third Head Coach in program history following a historic 11-year run at Brebeuf Jesuit Prep (IN)
If you looked at just the resume and didn’t know the gender of the applicant most would likely think it’s not a good hire.
Just clarifying, Gus was not hired directly from HS to Auburn. He had ~7 years of DI assistant experience before he got his first DI head job.
Alfred University is advertising up to $65,000 salary for their mens HC position. This is a bad D3 program with many challenges. There isn't a lot of logic in this business in terms of how things work. Just because it is the rarified air of "D1", that doesn't mean much - particularly lower level D1. IU Indy isn't even offering that in terms of salary. What some people may think are important variables in the hiring of a D1 head coach may not be what is important to the administration. I really don't care that she played on the national team over 30 years ago, and was a D1 assistant nearly 30 years ago - Butler is definitely different than they were 30 years ago (when they played in the same conference IU Indy is in now) and Indiana/Big Ten soccer is also much different...give me a break. But she is applying for a $50,000 a year job in a crappy conference and she is local. So maybe the AD is understandably comfortable hiring a hometown native, who will not be using the job as a stepping stone (not that there's anything wrong with that) and who has had success coaching. It doesn't matter if it is HS, she's had lots of success. Let's face it, it isn't brain surgery - she can obviously coach. The issue is always whether a coach can recruit with limited resources - and that is always the case for a new HC, no matter the level and no matter their coaching experience - be that as a successful HS coach or a college assistant (where you didn't make decisions, you just made suggestions).
I generally stay out of this, but this one is so completely wrong it needs correcting. Gus Malzahn was hired straight out of high school to be the offensive coordinator at Arkansas not a head coach. He had multiple offensive coordinator stops (including Auburn) before being head coach at Arkansas St. for a year and then was named Auburn. In the last 50 years of FBS schools, only 5 have gone straight from high school to college with no college experience. The most recent was Trent Dilfer (Deion fails this test as he went to an FCS). All of them didn't really fare great. This, though, doesn't apply to the argument because the coach being discussed does have some college experience.
I did not say he was hired for a head coaching job. If he was I would have said millions, not hundreds of thousands of dollars. He was hired directly from HS to be an SEC offensive coordinater. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gus_Malzahn
Illinois has a new head coach. https://fightingillini.com/news/2024/12/10/katie-hultin-named-illinois-soccer-head-coach.aspx

Wow good for Katie. This is a good hire for Illinois. She is used to winning and will do well. Illinois with a great hire.
In the football world, HS coaches to college assistants (even DI) happens probably yearly. Not necessarily at a high rate, but will happen. This discussion was from HS head coach to college (specifically DI) head coach. When you add, "Gus Malzahn is an example of a high school football coach who was hired for a college football job in the SEC at Auburn," the inference is that it was for a HC job as that is what everyone has been talking about here. All good. We see that it happens, it just so happened to hit WoSo this time around. I doubt it's happened much either, although I don't have the statistics nor will I spend the time for it either.
