Not all universities will pay, had to pay over $1,500 to get my advanced national years ago out of pocket, University would not cover extra curricular needs. Not all pay. Not all have clubs near our colleges either within 60 miles to coach at, so they won't pay either. Out of my 3 licenses I got between USSF and NCSA I paid all out of pocket. That's a pretty penny. I have watched a ton of free coaching courses, training sessions, videos from the top clubs online, without losing near $4,000 out of pocket, I could have learned as much from coaching peers studying those sessions for free and put them into practice in camps or our other sessions, which I do at times. More places to learn new soccer drills and methods than paying thousands for a certificate to put on the office wall.

IU Indy announcement should be coming soon.

This may be a good one in regards to a common topic on this thread. :)

I'm kinda surprised many of you focused on the licenses rather than the bold statement above. Especially since Eric Dade, the interim*, was an African-American man. There are many opinions about gender in this thread, but few about skin complexion.

*yes I know the previous coach was Canadian

If athletic directors cared about 1% as much as this forum does then head coaching hires would be based on overall success rate and recruiting ability. Just like they are in football, basketball and baseball hires.

But many of those that look good on paper fail too. It is about finding the right fit for your university. A coach who does well on the pitch at school A is not a guarantee to do well at school B. Also, an AD may want someone who is likely to be a long-term hire rather than someone who looks at their school like a stepping stone to greener pastures. We also are not in the interview room to see how they answer questions. We do not know how reference checks go, nor do we know how they are administratively. Just because a coach wins on the field, if she/he is a nightmare administratively, an AD may pass. There is so much we do not know on any hire. USC and UCLA coaches did not have head collegiate experience, yet they both proved to be successful quickly at their first head coaching opportunities.

I never said all universities pay for license/convention - just saying they did for me....that was it

Also don't know why Maryland is taking so long. They let go of their coach when the players complained to the AD in early October, so they've had time to make a hire. Maybe there's some more pressure on them now as well that other P4s are hiring, but who knows if they pay attention to things like that.

Nelson from Missouri St would be an interesting choice. He's a Maryland alum (don't think he played there, but that doesn't matter much). Have done very well in the MVC and next year move up to Conference USA. Don't know how well a mid major coach can do making a jump to a struggling Big 10 program that has to face UCLA, Michigan St, Penn St, USA, etc. but he's earned the right to at least get strong consideration, especially if there are no big names going for it.

Can't imagine the interim Marchiano getting at this stage. If they wanted him would have assumed they would have hired him by now. But who knows. Both he and his wife are alums. If Sasho wants Marchiano to have it then he could have a legit shot.

Looks like they only have two recruits coming in. Some kids on the portal looking to leave. And doubt they're active looking at bringing kids off the portal right now without a head coach in place. So that massive rebuild (combined 1 Big 10 win in two years) may just be getting deeper and deeper.

And then you actually read her bio. Tell us what male applied that has better credentials:

Indianapolis-native who grew up and spent almost her entire life in the city.

As head coach at Brebeuf, White amassed a 168-49-23 record (.748 winning percentage), which included a national championship, an IHSAA state championship and an IHSAA runner-up finish. She mentored and helped develop back-to-back Gatorade State Player of the Year honorees Reilly Martin (2014) and Alia Martin (2015), both of whom continued their careers at the University of Michigan. She also coached former Wake Forest standout Ryanne Brown, who currently plays for Seattle in the NWSL.

White began her coaching career at Butler University as an assistant coach, where she helped the start of the program and saw the Bulldogs post back-to-back winning seasons. She later helped usher in the Indiana University women's soccer program as an assistant, helping them to a 50-46-1 record over five seasons, which included the lone Big Ten title in the Hoosiers history.

As a player, she was an All-American at George Mason University where they posted a 48-25-8 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in three of her four seasons. She later played for the U.S. Women's National Team in 1992 and 1993 and for Cincinnati and Columbus in the USWISL. She was an All-State performer in three sports at North Central High School, earning Marion County Female Athlete of the Year honors. She also played for the U.S. Youth National Team during her playing career.

That’s not a bad hire considering what they were paying. I can’t imagine the applicant pool was extensive. They got someone with deep local ties, good playing background, and 6-7 years of college experience.

That’s all you can ask for and more than you usually get for a job paying $50k a year.

    Good luck to her

This is one of the most laughable hires in recent years. There were some good naia head coaches and several mid major assistants that applied and this is what you come up with? What an embarrassment.
