Utterly stupid article written by a stupid hack who knows absolutely nothing and could scarcely be further away from reality if he tried.
well, alright then. I will concede you know this in much more detail than I do but I didn't think this seemed completely ridiculous. People who are exposed to constant abuse often become like their abusers. Perhaps this isn't the case here but I think it's a very real risk in general.
Nothing against you @SouthRef for quoting the post (sorry if it came across that way), I’m just fed up of media midwits casting their ‘expertise’ over this and other issues where they simply don’t have a clue. These idiots will be made to feel very stupid in the coming days.
https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/42384505/david-coote-uefa-opens-investigation-ref-new-video If true, Mr Coote needs some help.
Oh, the day after? I mean, who amongst us...? In all seriousness, the location, timing and venue is going to potentially make this a problem for a lot of others. Maybe no one else is guilty or culpable, so to speak. But tough questions are going to be asked of some high-profile individuals now and I cannot imagine this investigation is going to be fun. The knock-on effects behind the scenes at PGMOL and within UEFA should not be dismissed.
Absolutely flabbergasted at how self-induced this collapse is, especially if this latest video is what it is claimed to be. How many layers of idiocy do you need to pass through to not just do cocaine, to not just do it in a UEFA Hotel at a EURO tournament(!), to not just film yourself(!!!) doing it, but then to send that to anyone??? It’s so stupid to an almost frustrating degree.
We have quickly transitioned from the important question being whether or not Coote engaged in such behavior more than once to how/if it is possible no one else of relevance knew... or participated.
Coote: “See, I never just did things just to do them. Come on, what am I gonna do? Just all of a sudden snort a line of cocaine at my work event and film myself doing it, talk shit about my coworkers and employers, then distribute that video to my friends like it's something to do? Come on. I got a little more sense then that. ...Yeah, I remember snorting a line of cocaine at my work event and filming myself doing it, talking shit about my coworkers and employers, then distributing that video to my friends”
Go Yank go: Aston Villa- Crystal Palace Referee: Tim Robinson. Assistants: Tim Wood, Steve Meredith. Fourth official: Tony Harrington. VAR: Alex Chilowicz. Assistant VAR: Lee Betts.
I’m spinning the Dale Johnson Bag o’ Excuses wheel and I’m coming up with “not enough force”…… (Note sarcasm-this is a nailed on red pretty much anywhere except England)
All it’s going to take is for a guy like Palmer to miss 8 months with an injury and then have his career never be the same. Small price, right?
Meanwhile ... Brentford Red? ... might be my bias talking but while strict letter-of-the-law, it's probably a red, I'd say it should be negated it being a loose ball and Pickford making more of an effort of getting hit, than getting the ball
The first time I saw a play where I thought in a manner like you are was all the way back in 2018 or so. DeBruyne was nailed mid shin from the inside of his leg against Crystal Palace. Probably should have broken his leg, but only a caution showed, I said the same thing as you did. Six years later, here we are. The powers that be don’t want this to change. I don’t even think a severe injury to someone like Palmer will change it.
If it happens to the England captain in a World Cup year they’d ban all contact faster than you can say “PGMOL.”
Hey guys, remind me of the current state of the rule. In the Southampton vs. Liverpool match, ref awarded a penalty when the ball hit the Sot'on defender's chest first and then his arm. So hitting the chest first doesn't matter anymore (maybe never did?) or is it just one factor and the ref still decides if the arm was in a "natural" position?
if in the opinion of the referee the handling was deliberate or an unnatural position, it is an offense. There is no “get out of jail free card” for it first playing the chest. But the play off the chest can be a factor in evaluation whether the position was unnnatural or the action was deliberate.
Surely Sugawara can have nothing to complain about... arm way out to the side as he's flying by. Don't know if it's deliberate, but certainly unnatural position and making silhouette much bigger. Can't do that.
And that's the problem with the current interpretation of the handball law....simply having your arms in a position that makes your body bigger is considered to be "deliberate intent", when in most cases it's anything but. Sugawara certainly did not "intentionally" handle the ball by any common sense definition of the word "intent"....but the ball hit his arm when it was away from his body, so of course it's an offense.
