Wow! That's kinda like RSL signing away international roster spots FOREVER. At least it is capped at 3 years. Then they can decide if it is still worthless.
It's only worthless to Philly due to the overflowing amount of talent in their Academy. They don't have room on their NeXT Pro side for college players that likely won't pan out as first team players, while also taking away a valuable roster spot for their young academy players. They did the same thing 5 years ago. Garber actually spoke to this on Friday, and said that the draft will still be around and used, but in an increasingly deemphasized way as the Academies continue to be built out and improve.

I think Free Agency and $$$ might make Rusnak a calculated risk. But I think every team is going to have 1-2??? aside from Atlanta, who have hardly anyone on roster. Oh, and Chicago who have barely anybody they care to keep. San Diego taking Insigne would be so LOL.
Yes, and of the 12 the Fire chose to protect a good half could just go away and nobody would miss them. We protected "mighty" Tom Barlow, for zog's stake. We also protected Georgios Koutsias, who is almost certainly heading to FC Lugano in Switzerland in the next few days.
IF they take a player from the Union's list of unprotected players, I'd be shocked if it wasn't Jack Elliott. There's actually some decent players available. Also looks like Bruce is going to completely overhaul the Quakes, seeing as a lot of their regulars the past few seasons are unprotected. If I was San Diego I'd pick: 1.) Jack Elliott (CB Philly) 2.) Eryck Williamson (MF Portland) 3.) Gaston Brugman (MF LA Galaxy) 4.) Xande Silva (AM/ST Atlanta) 5.) Ben Bender (MF Charlotte)
Carlos Vela, Josef Martinez and Kei Kamara up front for San Diego. They'd be The Travelling Wilburys of MLS strikers. Damn. Martinez is only 31.
