Spoiler (Move your mouse to the spoiler area to reveal the content) Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler DeJuan earns his first cap, coming off the bench in 62'. Petrovic starts and gives up one goal (to Brandon Vasquez).
I didn't watch the game, I don't get HBO and it was scheduled to kick off at 10 pm. I did listen to the 11yanks this morning recap the game. They thought the team really started playing well and looked pretty good when DeJuan entered the game. They said he made a big difference getting up and down the field and connecting with his teammates. Let's hope we get DeJuan 2021 and not 2022 this year.
I read somewhere that the guys playing last night had a combined 21 minutes of international experience for the USMNT. That's an astounding stat.
Not to quibble, but Zimmerman and Long split CB duties, Arriola and Hoppe have had previous caps. They probably didn't have a ton of previous minutes played, but it was more than 21.
Thanks. I remembered the tweet wrong. Must have been talking about just the starters? Setting aside Walker Zimmerman (38 caps), this #USMNT lineup has a combined total of 21 minutes of US national team experience. In fact, it has more experience on the MEXICAN national team (103 minutes).— Alex Calabrese (@amcalabrese12) January 26, 2023
It was interesting seeing Jones attacking on his natural right side. He was very involved. At one point his speed showed up too after he coughed up the ball and recovered so fast it turned into nothing. Both of our REVs played very well.
Borrero looked encouragingly lively for Colombia, and made a few aggressive attacking passes that caught my eye. He played more centrally than he does for the Revs, so I hope that's not an issue. I do feel like the Revs need him to have a good season, so I'm hopeful so far, based on a tiny sample size.
Jones earns first USMNT start, Borrero debuts for Colombia as Revs teammates battle to 0-0 draw By Jeff Lemieux Saturday, Jan 28, 2023, 09:54 PM
It was great to see him fit and healthy for a change. When he came back after being out injured last year, he didn't really look fully fit.
I was expecting DeJuan to be called up for this MLS-centric friendly, but he was not: USMNT call in 20 MLS players for Mexico rivalry showdown By Jonathan Sigal Wednesday, Apr 12, 2023, 12:00 PM
If that's the case, then good for the Revs. It always cheapens things when teams are missing key players, and at least this week, it's a really important game. This is just a friendly (read cash grab), not a WCQ or even a Nations League thing, so no need to take away important players from their clubs. Or better yet, don't schedule games at the same time.
20 MLS players were called. They will play for their MLS club on Saturday, fly to Arizona for the mid-week game, and be back with their club before next Saturday. Yes, it's possible, but I don't think Bruce would deny him the opportunity. Next man up (Spaulding, or Farrell at RB and slide Bye over to left) could cover for the SKC game if the travel was too much.
DeJuan Jones is on the preliminary USMNT roster submitted to CONCACAF for the upcoming Nations League matches. Nice to see, but these rosters are huge, so not too excited yet
Damian "Tico" Rivera has had his 1 time switch finalized by FIFA. Josh Nye reports he will travel to Costa Rica to participate in the Mauricio Ravello tournament and may be away from the team as long as June 18th
I think he's been showing some progress lately (one of the better players vs. Pittsburgh IMO and stepping up for Revs II), so it is an unfortunate time to be losing him. OTOH, training/playing with the CRNT should be good for his development.
