I know they caught some heat for it last time they implemented it, due to how it did not contrast well with certain skin tones (and maybe other things?), but I’ve always wanted to see them return it as a secondary. Maybe they can pair that with some light blue shorts or something to contrast it a bit.
They are using a different shade of gold these days than initially that I think would look better (less like the players are nude) so who knows. Anyway, looks like the kit will be revealed on Feb 18:
It was more the blue flag kit than the yellow one, though the similar color scheme was noticed even on the yellow
Because those jersey's were hideous? I'll be disappointed if they go with a Gold kit for the away shirt, though it'll save me some money.
Lookin’ good, but I would have suggested one tweak: going with red Adidas stripes instead of blue. The blue makes the jersey look similar to Nashville and Columbus, as well as to Colombia. Red is RSL’s primary color anyway, and red trim on yellow would be more distinctive. YMMV.
Nah, the khaki jersey with the blue shorts is one of the top Union kits in my book. So unique to the league as well. Hoping the new kit resembles this only with the current gold color.
If this rule was a real thing everyone should have released their new kits officially by now, since we're inside 2 weeks to the start of the season. Has anyone had an official release yet? I don't think this rule is a real thing for the league anymore.
I hope the one I saw today is not the new Jersey. Please be a pre-game warmup. Please be a pregame warmup. Please be a pregame warmup. [/QUOTE]
I swear it feels like the team has gotten almost comically worse on the business side of things since Nelson left. Glassman-Cherein spoke last year about having some potential replacement sponsors lined up, but now she's gone. So we've got neither a primary nor a secondary jersey sponsor. No sponsor for the Fire Pitch. It's possible the field naming rights deal with Wintrust is worth more than the latter two with CIBC, but man... it's a bad look.
the fire showed photos from their marketing promo shoot and all the players were wearing the primary with no sponsor. i'd think that if they had one to announce soon, they would have waited until they had jerseys with the logo on it, so they wouldn't have to do them twice in a short window. not looking good on the sponsor front.
The Rapids let some media/bloggers have a sneak peak at the new kit last night. All pics are embargoed until the reveal tomorrow but its getting rave reviews. People are going to like this one.
Perspective from a Crew fan: after the Haslams and Edwards Saved the Crew in 2018, Acura did not extend their jersey sponsorship after the 2019 season. The club was scrambling for a jersey partner this exact point before the start of the 2020 season. It certainly wasn’t good optics—the season about to start, no jersey sponsor, new jerseys (well, new away black jersey) with no sponsor being worn by players for preseason events. Not exactly confidence-instilling for fans and probably not for other sponsors as well. But look at the big picture/long view. The club got it right. The Crew wound up with a very good jersey sponsorship deal with local insurance company Nationwide. Working on the deal and getting it right is better than rushing and getting a crappy deal. Should they/could they have worked at and pushed harder to get the deal done sooner? Maybe. Probably. It certainly would have been better for optics. But it was worth it in the long run. Another point: could the Fire opt to put a charity on the front instead of leaving it blank? I don’t recall the details, but the Crew wound up putting Nationwide Children’s on their jerseys for 2020 (it’s a children’s hospital here in Columbus for which Nationwide Insurance paid the naming rights). IIRC, the Crew was able to write the sponsorship off as a charitable contribution. (Perhaps one of the Crew lurkers can correct me on this.). Lastly, not having a sponsor on the jersey to me isn’t a “scarlet letter.” In fact, I thought recent sponsorless Rapids jerseys were very clean looking.
These were all on Reddit this morning. Solid jerseys from NY and Seattle. Not sure what Austin was trying to do, but it’s not working.
Maybe its some sort of digital camouflaged where they're hoping other players won't be able to figure out exactly where they are?
