MLS put out a release with details on broadcast teams and other info. Matches will be in 1080p and 5.1 audio with enhanced graphics whatever that means. https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/appl...l-live-event-production-plan-and-talent-pairi
A couple of interesting notes in there. This is an immense investment by Apple and their production teams. It seems like every game will have a Spanish and English broadcast team. And French for the Canadian teams. So no more whining about shitty announcers…just tune into the non-English stream. You can start every broadcast from the beginning, regardless of when you begin watching. Terrific. Streams will be available almost immediately after the game ends. Woo! There’s going to be a league-wide pre game and post game show every Saturday. I’m looking forward to this. Lots of other good stuff too.
I watched the short film about the 1996 final last night. It is pretty good. I wish they would have also interviewed the goal scorers to get their thoughts. But it's good for what it tries to do
If you have T-Mobile.... https://www.t-mobile.com/news/offer...ore-mls-season-pass-on-the-apple-tv-app-on-us
The T-Mobile offer is a real smart move by Apple and MLS. One way to grow the brand is give it away or sell below cost-- for awhile. That was how Anheuser Busch made Budweiser a national brand -- sold for below cost in new areas to drive the local breweries out of business. Remember Hamms? Olympia? Strohs? Schaefer? Lucky? Falstaff? All history after being price competed (unfairly) by A-B.
They also reached some sort of agreement with DirecTV for commercial establishments to be able to show games
I was frankly pretty disappointed with the quality of the preview. Mostly talked about the history of the club and showed highlights of Marco and Jaime. Only mentioned the new players a bit. I've seen much better analysis around here. Basically, it was a facile overview of MLS has a club in DC and they probably won't be good based on conventional wisdom. If this is the quality to expect of MLS content, I'm going to have to be really bored and desperate to watch it...
I wasn't looking for hard hitting reporting but some basics like: - here are the players in attack, defense, and goal - here is how they played last year and here are the upgrades - here are a few things to watch for - here are the unknowns You know, something more than a MLS soccer.com fluff piece...
Ok so I ended up watching some other previews and it was really just ours that was crap. The quality of the others highlighted how everything this club touches turns to rotten chunks of garbage in your best whiskey. Really, of the other five or six I watched, I got a sense of reasons to watch, challenges the team was facing, reasonable understanding of the expectations, how the coach and new signings might work out, and what players matter or where holes may be...
It's almost like you're saying DCU is being outpaced by most of the other MLS clubs. But that can't be true. We Win Trophies and have Tradition.
I don't know if I can justify paying $100 on another streaming service just to watch what is likely to be another tough season. I think this deal will continue to reduce interest in the team even if it is good for MLS overall.
Considering the TMobile deal and the fact that Season Ticket Members get it free I think those that are interested will get it and maintain their interest.
Outstanding news from DC United! 🗣 HE'S IN THE BOOTH! Legendary broadcaster @DaveJSports will headline iHeartRadio's local broadcast for all of #DCU's 2023 MLS regular season matches!— D.C. United (@dcunited) February 24, 2023
This is terrific news. I'm genuinely thrilled by Apple's ambitious steaming plans. One of the little things that you may have missed in their PR is that, as I understand it, a viewer can choose between: Audio from their crew in English Audio from their crew in Spanish Audio from their crew in French (for any game featuring a Canadian team) Audio from the local radio crew If true, you can listen to DJ on the Apple stream with one tap on the screen.
I'm definitely using the French tomorrow. Because if we suck at least it will sound beautiful... I would do Spanish but I HATE the elongated goal call. Everything else is so much better but listening to 30 seconds of Gooooooool, when it isn't your team sucks a great sucking....
So, due to recent surgery I am not able to attend a home opener for the first time since '97. Having some issues with this: Successfully signed up/in a few days ago from both a laptop and my brand new Samsung22 phone. But at 6:30 tried to login on phone and it didnt let me until I did password reset. - Wont load from Samsung TV internet browser. - Wont load in Firefox - my preferred laptop browser - says its not avail with this browser. - Started watching some of nashville game on my phone but after unlocking phone after putting it down to try using tv browser no game would load! (now casting from laptop to TV). Local Radio: -audio channel selection functionality is good - radio guys are not synced well with the TV broadcast: TV starts showing rosters and radio is silent, was behind kickoff by several seconds. - Sound levels from local radio feed are completely potted down. have to turn TV volume to max to hear at a low volume; have to turn down volume when switching back to Apple - Radio broadcasters have to remember they are now doing radio which requires more detail and more rapid description of events happening. DJ is still using his usual glacial Shawshank Redemption pace of narration - he is several seconds behind everything (not helped by any delay from apple native...)
Samsung TV will have the AppleTV App - TV browsers are useless. Go to the Samsung App "Store" and find the AppleTV app.
