Feyenoord and Orange Squad icon Van Hanegem with a hard and harsh judgement about Ueda. Time is running out for him. Willem van Hanegem is still not convinced about Ayase Ueda. De Kromme is slowly starting to lose faith in the Japanese, as he acknowledges in the Willem & Wessel Podcast. Ueda started in the starting line-up for Japan, which faced China and eventually won 7-0. The Feyenoord striker did not impress Van Hanegem. "Every time I've said,, it's so difficult for a striker when he only gets seven, ten or eleven minutes. Now he has played a few times a little longer and it was nothing," says the former footballer. "Now I see him playing again." "Won 7-0 and he doesn't score a goal. Ueda had the same chances and made the same mistakes as at Feyenoord. He was played balls and then lost them again in the turn. In a way that makes you think: this can't be true? Even as a point of contact, it didn't go well. He had chances, half shooting and then falling again. He had chances, half shooting and then falling again. If your team scores seven times and you're a striker and you don't score yourself, that's not a good thing," said Van Hanegem.
Sad but true. It mostly on him but he did not get so much chances. This was exaclty what I thought they were feeling about him , and yeah he should still leave.
True but what what is these guy talking? It is not more likely that Ueda didnt perform against China cause he is out of form, due to lacking gametime/match praxis? It is hard on one side to judge player cause of this and to be fair, for Ueda to perform like a superstar then. But did this guy remember when Ueda was starting 4 games in a row at the end of last season a? He produces 5 scorerpoints (3 goals + 2 assists).Looks like Ayase is not the type of player, who is good super sub. Unlike Minamino at Liverpool who was scoring a lot of goals. Thats more the point of problem of Ueda but to be fair, to be a good super sub and get some self convidence you need more then 5-10 minutes at a game. Its not that simple like this guy shows it cause he sees things out of a completely different perspective. He showed there, that he is capable of producing theoretical, every game a scorerpoint which would match even Giminez. The problem is more that Ueda cant surpass Giminez and it looks like Ueda is not the type of player which feels comfortable with that situation.
Ueda has the same problem the American Pepi has at PSV with Luuk de Jong. Both LdJ and Gimenéz were scoring lots of goals. So both Ueda and Pepi were left with scarce sub in minutes. The interesting fact is that both Slot and current coach Priske are very positive about him. They see how he performs in training. In the end however it has to translate to results on the pitch.
It is not totally his fault but in this game you have to take your chances. For instance in CL last season he got 2,3 starts? And sub apperances. He did nothing with that. Same in the cup, 0 goals. Then again it seems to stupid to put thier record transfer signing on the bench. Let him go
Ueda take his chance in the CL, scored the first goal for Feyenord against Atletico, which was counting as an own goal but his shot was it, which lead to the goal.
When you consider it was his first CL game, it was a good one against a top team and to be fair he got another 1 start and 2-3 games with 10-15 minutes, its not that much. I wouldnt say he was a world beater there but he was solid enough beside his limited gametime. My point was only, that he shows when he played 4-5 games in a row, he is capable of producing many scorerpoints. When he got a little rhythm. I think he is no good super sub player like Minamino for Liverpool or Doan for Japan.
If they are very positive about him it possibly already translates to results on the pitch, just not the way we in this thread would like to see. His training efforts likely pushes other players to do likewise and that's why both are very positive about him as is.
Only 1 change, of course no Ueda. They subbed in a LB for a MF. What the hell? The game is over, let the bench players try something.
Not hopeless, Ueda scored and made a solid game but he was centimeter offside but performance like he scored. Better then nothing I would say, to shine a little.
Still in the end, no points, no goal. 0-4 . It doesnt matter in the end of the day with these so called almost things.
It matters cause for example Giminez and the other offensive player concede 4 goals and Ueda came in and "scored" a offside goal. With things like that you can climb the ledder up to the starting point or at least more minutes. You cleary see how hard this guy work and a performance like today when you stood out a little of a bad day can do something. Almost things are very very important between the lines.
And he played good till now, comentator are saying he is very active and lively, playing good passes. Hit the post also or was saved by the keeper, hard to. see.
