The way it was worded was that he'd "hoped" he'd get time in the cash grab. My understanding is a signing is still coming. And you've been around long enough to know SKC is notoriously tight-lipped on signings and rumors regularly don't come out.
What I don't understand is how nothing comes out on the otehr end, the selling clubs, the target players. I get that PV wants, above all else, to kill any possible joy fans might find in following the club.
Who's to say it hasn't and it's just not been found? I'm not saying it actually is out there, but more than once after a signing that felt like it came out of the blue from a foreign country I've found reports linking the player with the move. I do a lot of checking on Twitter, but that's not to say it's not somewhere else. It could also be that the player is that unimpressive that it doesn't inspire being written about.
I honestly am as well, seems like unless Mike Illig talks to Twelllman (the rumored source for how Twellman got Thommy’s name before he signed) nothing comes out until the team tops the Star off. And trust me I’m as antsy as you even though we both know there wasn’t likely to be more than the one signing.
I am not as plugged into SKC as some here are but I see no announcement of this other than his listing on the roster page of the team website. Where is the official announcement of this? Seriously underwhelming if true. No offense to Mr. Cruz who I am sure is a wonderful person and player. Don't have too much of a problem with SKC being tight lipped somewhat with trades and transfers but I do think that some leaking to generate buzz is not a bad thing.
It's not a full signing, it's a short term signing just for the game tonight. NEWS: #SportingKC has officially added @SportingKCII and @SKCAcademy product Sebastian Cruz to a short-term agreement ahead of tomorrow's @LeaguesCup Round of 32 match against the Columbus Crew. #CLBvSKC pic.twitter.com/R5Cmo4TBvE— Sporting KC Communications (@SportingKC_PR) August 8, 2024
It was an attempt at sarcasm..... We've been told a signing was immanent (several times now). Hence my refences to announcements about pending announcements. We've been told the player would be available to help with GCGC. Cruz, an SKC II player, is a short term signing brought in specifically to help with the GCGC due to thin roster. Sarcasm and the internets....... Should anyone second the motion, I plan to start referring to the GCGC as the GC squared, or GC^2. Not trademarked yet.
I'm for that, but that ^, is that what it means, squared, or times? Thanks. I learned something today
Also, wondering, why do we pay almost double the going rate for new players? I know, we say, because people don't want to come to KC. But RSL just signed Diogo Gonçalves for $3m, and his value is listed on TM as $6m. So, are people saying no to KC, but yes to Salt Lake? Same deal with Minnesota? Are people saying, nah, KC isn't cold enough for me? And on, and on. Or are we just really bad at this stuff. I guess we need to give Burns a chance. Maybe it was Bliss?
FWIW if the name I've heard is right (no reason to believe it's not), whelmed to slightly disappointing is my response.
Even if this signing were a total banger, I'm not sure I'd have huge hopes for the rest of the season or the rebuild after. I'm gonna need some real convincing at this point. I mean at least four signings by the end of the next window that all strike me as above expectations. I'm generally easily pleased in that regard, so I guess I'm more nervous about quantity than anything.
Correct. I shortened the GCGC to GC^2 or GC squared. Still waiting for that to take off. Math more interesting than SKC losing to CBUS.
Math is love. Speaking of SKC losing to CBUS, I am usually a Rosero fan, but that was one atrocious defensive effort on the goal.
Two days left. I think it is gonna be hard to play a new signing in CG^2, but maybe St Louis would let us play the new guy in their next game? I mean, why not, as he will probably be mythical
I've seen people snarking about this but I can't find the quote and genuinely can't remember: when the ownership or Pete, whichever, stated that we'd be competitors within 3 transfer windows, were they intentionally starting to count after this summer window? Or is it just dire? Because one thing I'm not seeing a glimmer of at all is market value for the guys on the roster. If we wanted to make moves but have a tied-up roster, couldn't we try shipping off a player or two around the league to make room? We did some dealing in 2019, but to my basic research, we've only sold two players in the last five years: Zendejas in 2020 and Lindsey in 2022. Lindsey has put in some good minutes at Charlotte, but Zendejas (again, to my limited research) has never played another MLS minute. Included in the 2019 trade-aways we got money for was Rwatubyaye, who was never successful at this level. All that to say, I don't think the lack of wiggle room in our roster is really a fair reason we can't be seeing some signings. Even underwhelming players have market value. So to me this is Vermes still holding way too tight to his crew - or the league has wised up to the problems inherent through our ranks. Both are pretty damning.
Who's saying they haven't tried and have either over valued the talent they're willing to part with, or there's just no interest in the players that they're willing to part with? And the article was Sam's interview with Illig if I remember correctly.
If we're really tied up with this roster, it's just further evidence that we really have no idea how to build a 2024 roster in MLS. Other sides have much more talent already, and are adding players every window
