What fixation? 2023 hot list for me: Arizona- red hot. Finished dead last in year 1 and has undone all the previous, legendary head coaches work. What are the reasons for Colorado state being on the hot list?
In the Pac-12, if Arizona is in hot seat, why the free pass for Oregon's coach? Take Leah Freeman out of that team for the last 3 years, and it very well could have been pure disaster. The quality of the soccer is some of the worst soccer I have seen and word on the street is not great with the coach and how he acts and treats players and assistants. Last year, Oregon made 137 saves and they were still 280th in goals-against giving up 389 shots! They were 226 in team offense as they only had 146 shots. Their RPI was saved by Leah who was huge is numerous ties (Texas, Gonzaga etc) - just look at the shot differentials in the games they tied last season. This is his team - after clearing house after he came in. (And FWIW, not sure how Leah doesn't get invites to YNT's. I have zero horse in that race, just think her college performances merit attention. Maybe there's more to that story than I am aware of. Maybe being at Duke will help, but there were players at the 2022 U20 WC last year with zero college experience and it showed.)
Graham is a decent goalkeeper coach, but that's it. He's a bigger timer who rides coat tails. If Jill Ellis calls to recommend a coach to an AD they should hang up, her track record is awful.
Seems like there have been a few of those hires. In regards to Oregon I see that they have had a couple of their ‘best ever’ years under this coach as recent as 2021 so maybe they are happy with him? I have no idea. In my opinion the University of Oregon should be the best college program in the state but it looks like they’re 2nd perhaps even 3rd.
So Jill Ellis and the Arizona coach have one thing in common neither of them know what they’re doing.
Interested in hearing takes on what seats are hot in the Big 10? Seen a couple of discussions here, and is worth noting that the chatter about the hot seat at FIU is solid. I’ll go ahead and mention UNT. Hasn’t won a conference in 4 years, picks up easy games to maintain a “winning season” and is transitioning to a league where kick and run won’t work like it did in the C-USA. Matter fact, he has been surpassed on his own game by UTSA as of the last 2 years. Surely has history there and not an easy decision. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a massive change on his staff before he goes if things don’t change this season. Definitely getting warmer. In no specific order here are my thoughts: 1- FIU 2- UNT 3- Miami 4- Boston College 5- Syracuse 6- Mizzou
Finished dead last in that first year because she had NO prior head coaching experience. In fact, while she had an extensive player career, she did not have much coaching experience. Perhaps we will see improvement over the course of her contract term. Nice of AZ AD to train her in like that…they sure do like promoting former players with little to no coaching experience. Eager to see what happens this season, but doubt they will pay to remove her, even if the team underperforms.
Saw a tweet by Mizzou coach yesterday referencing this will be another “building” year. Sigh. Seems the coach continues to take advantage of the standard: I don’t have to show results until my fifth year. Why is this an acceptable practice for some and not others? Glad I am not a Mizzou fan where mediocrity is king until the recruiting class ownership is fully transitioned.
UNT! Almost laughable, finished second in conference last year! Believe he signed an extension through 2026, not going anywhere. I might look at the bottom of this conference not the top! CUSA 2022 Rice 9-0-1 11-8-1 North Texas 7-2-1 12-6-2 UAB 6-1-3 9-4-5 Louisiana Tech 5-3-2 7-9-3 Florida Atlantic 5-4-1 11-8-3 UTSA 4-3-3 12-6-4 WKU 4-5-1 7-9-3 Charlotte 2-6-2 4-11-4 FIU 1-5-4 3-8-4 UTEP 1-7-2 4-11-3 MTSU 0-8-2 2-12-3
Laughable? If you are given all the resources, and top the league in budget, facilities and everything else, not winning it should be a problem, and chatter is there is pressure to win there, again, that seat is getting warmer.. second in regular conference, but check conference tournaments and see where they are finishing. Rest of the league: Charlotte and UTEP with recent coaching changes no risk there. MTSU - Could be something to watch depending on this upcoming season. Winnable league for any of the remaining teams since the departure of Old Dominion and Southern Miss that dominated 2021 and now the departure of teams that dominated 2022, Rice, UAB, FAU and UTSA.
That league is really changing very quickly. There were a lot of coaches in the conference surprised by UTSA- Pittman wasn’t known as a particularly strong coach, but the dude has a reputation of being a very good recruiter which in the college game is likely more vital than quality of practice. The new looking AAC will be tough and there are a couple coaches on the eastern side Of the league curious how the newbies will affect the RPI.
I think UNT is no way on the hot seat. Yes, he has more transfers on the portal every year and he's not respected by his team or previous coaches that have worked with him. Could he call it a day after his contract runs out in 2026?
I remember reading in one of these blogs that Florida Gulf Coast coach was retiring after this season. Can anyone confirm?
Odd if that's true because his lead assistant left a few months ago to be the lead assistant at Dartmouth. And she was an alum. Would think if it's public she would have stayed and then elevated to the HC position unless she was told it wasn't happening.
Winning season COULD help. Making conference tournament would prove improvement and that’s the staff’s best bet.

I believe Mark Francis is in his last contract year at Kansas. I would think it is highly likely a transition could occur there.
I don't disagree. But they haven't made the NCAA Tournament since 2019 (made Sweet 16 that year which is spectacular for KU and pretty dang good for any Big 12 team). They've also finished 9/10 and 7/10 the last two seasons in the league. If they were to miss NCAA's this year, and it is a contract year, I could see him (or any power 5 coach) being dismissed for missing the NCAA Tournament 4 straight years (and not getting out of 1st round of big 12 tournament in that time, while missing the b12 tournament entirely once). It depends on how long admins are willing to give coaches in a post-covid, transfer portal world. Many admins at that level aren't giving single year deals, so it's either renew for 3-5 or non-renew. I would think a NCAA tournament berth would equal immediate safety, and maybe less would, too, but it depends on the admin. It would be kind of interesting if MF is given the boot while the coach down the road keeps getting extended despite the program's mediocrity.
Boston College just released their scheduled and it's brutal. Since Lowe arrived in conference they have gone 1-8-1, 1-7, 1-9, and 1-7-2 in conference for a terribly woeful 4-31-3 in conference during his term. And he inherited a team that went 14-5-1 overall and 6-3-1 in conference the year before and went to the NCAAs, that's a team that had a pretty rich history so to see how far they have fallen is tragic. So in no way did he inherit a dumpster fire. Strong academic school in one of the top college cities in the best conference in America that had been recruiting great players. They finished in last place last year and the 3 teams that finished ahead of them aren't on their schedule in Miami, Syracuse, and NC State. Could see them going 0 for 10 this year, maybe there is a prayer they could get a result against Louisville at home. That's going to be a great gig for anyone that wants to live in New England and bring that program back to life.
It's Syracuse they have at home, Louisville away. If they don't win that, I think you're right, they go winless.
