Have to disagree for worst hire. San Diego currently wins that award (Stetson is second then Marshall). The differentiating factor being the quality of candidate the school could attract. You have the D2 national champion right down the road who’s won her conference every year but one, D1 experience, NAIA title game as a head coach, won three national championships as a player. That’s just one of the quality options they could have gone after. As for Marshall, Sure the men’s soccer program has had success due to bringing in internationals and we know that is harder to replicate on the women’s side, but why not go with someone who can recruit those internationals and has an idea of how To achieve success at Marshall. I mean they are in the Sunbelt. It’s not that hard to win in that conference. You can employ the South Alabama playbook, go international and have a lot of success. Sure they aren’t gonna win National championships they could at least win conference titles with that formula.

I think USD is looking at their Men's hire, which was a little outside of the box, but has worked really well for them. LaPorte has been in the womens soccer world in San Diego for a good amount of time and has added value to those programs (as their mens coach had been). I am glad to see someone who has served time in the women's game be given a chance. I'm also quite happy he is a local product. We don't know if the D2 national champion down the road applied so that is not an easy argument. We also don't know if she was offered the job and turned it down. She is a fantastic coach and even better person and could have been a great hire too. I don't know LaPorte as well so can't speak to that but he has always been direct, clear and honest in all communication that I have had with him, and I think he is a solid hire: He knows the school, has been in the D1 game in San Diego for sometime. Definitely better than the Marshall hire IMO.
And if they wanted to go with an assistant, PJ Woolridge at UC Irvine has San Diego connections and comes from a more successful program.
Funny - Rooney still has his condo in the dmv so would have been great at George Mason or GW but I think it's too late... He may get a crack at ManU in a few weeks! About Marshall and more about the portal - Questions - could kids at Marshall use the "coaching change" exemption to get into the portal now? when does the "coaching change" thing wear off and who makes that decision? What if the new coach wants to fire some of the current players and allow them to get into the portal now? Does that exemption apply in that case? or would those kids have to wait til May? I'm pretty sure the 2024 players that signed an NLI could get out of it due to a coaching change. Would they want to or would the new coach want them to? Point is - there may not be much roster room or much money to do anything different for 2024. With internationals or US kids. Interesting to see how it goes and we'll find out if this coach is 'connected' overseas or not pretty soon.
We heard Temple has a new coach with an announcement coming shortly and it's a head coach leaving a D1 Horizon conference program.
Now official Welcome to the nest, Head Coach Chris Shaw! 🦉🍒— Temple Women’s Soccer (@templewsoccer) January 4, 2024

That’s a bad hire. He probably left Robert Morris due to having multiple investigations into his conduct with athletes, issues with athletic training and strength and conditioning staff, and contacting the 2025 class secretly before June 15th last year. Whole administration were pissed at this dude.
poor reputation according to Collegewhispers......who must be very familiar with the program with the allegations that have been made.

It's either, only Collegewhispers is allowed to have an opinion on this board, or HE didn't get the job.
Texas Southern will announce their next HC soon. Former D1 player that was an assistant for a bit then a HC at the NAIA level.
Any thoughts on the CSU hire? Cleveland State AD hires the new coach and leaves for Wake Forest. I wonder how the new hire feels about that?
That's messed up... it was probably a quick hire to just get it done. Always challenging when a coach takes over and immediately the AD leaves. Hopefully the new AD keeps any promises that were made. Overall he seems like someone who has been around winning programs, the only problem is that he has NEVER been a head coach at any level.
As HouseofCards alluded to; Hampton filled. https://www.pilotonline.com/2024/01...of-new-volleyball-womens-soccer-head-coaches/
