Van dijk got additional one game ban and 100k fine for abuse after getting the DOGSO send off. And of course the reddit mouthbreathers who went in about how terrible referee abuse is, want everyone carded for surrounding the ref, etc. claim the fine is ridiculous and that getting an additional game for “that’s a f-ing joke” over and over is also ridiculous
For context, the fine for someone making $75K/year would be about $655. Obviously, that 100K won't break his bank account, but it's not exactly like it's a completely minor fine.
That's true but I think it got everyone's attention. Going forward we'll see if everyone got the message.
Sheffield United's keeper started with the time wasting verrrrrrrry early (while still tied). He was already on a yellow for a handball. It was pretty clear a time wasting 2YC wasn't coming, so he took his time. A lot.
Do you have a site that says the actual reasons why the YC was given like this? Or is it just speculation like googles match reports Or is this googles one?
Won't lie. I was surprised this was given by Pawson and his AR. Feels a lot like the standard "yeah it's technically a foul but it was always going out for a goal kick (actually a corner)". https://dubz.co/c/f25df1
I'm gonna beat this horse to death, but the answer is basically "we don't give those" at the corner of the penalty area facing away from goal. That's all I got.
PK for handball overturned against Brentford. It's one where I do agree that it shouldn't be handball but with current global standards it was more than supportable.
And it is Gordon, who has quite the reputation for simulation already. I don’t see this as a penalty. Look at the way he throws his foot in and turns it before contact. He’s creating the situation here. If he had any opportunity (and made any attempt) to possess or control the ball, I’d feel differently. But this just has all the hallmarks of an attacker trying to buy a non-existent penalty. Shocked it worked. I mean, why do we want to punish this but excuse Wan-Bissaka? It doesn’t make sense. Priorities are backward.
For better or worse Pawson has clearly taken the idea of not being afraid of a big decision to heart. His problem is that he's making decisions that are total outliers to the rest of the PL and how this league is called week to week and year to year.
So Pawson had three KMI's: - ruling out Wilson's goal due to a foul by Wilson on the keeper (upheld by VAR) - awarding the PK for the foul on Gordon by the keeper (upheld by VAR) - the handball (VAR recommended OFR, Pawson overruled his on-field call) How many did he get right on the field? And how many did the VAR get right? Because you can make an argument (not that I am) that he got all three calls wrong on the field IRT. Personally (note that I am a Newcastle supporter), I think Wilson's first goal should have stood (the keeper made a mess of it, and I don't think Wilson prevented him from playing the ball in a way that rose to the level of a foul, although I haven't seen a really good replay, since NBC did not show one, so I could be wrong), the PK was justified (keeper came rushing out, failed to play the ball, clattered Gordon, who admittedly was looking for the contact), and the handball was ridiculous. So I think he got one right and two wrong.
FWIW, I disagree about the PK, so to me he got all three wrong. It will be interesting to hear Lord Webb's analysis of these incidents. PH
In the days before VAR, this would have been fun. From the front view, easy PK. From the rear view, total dive. It would just depend upon the view of the official and maybe help from the AR. In the VAR era, I don't know how they miss that. They have both views.
Terrible decision to give that penalty to Newcastle... Another key incident, from added time of Villa vs. Palace. What do you think? https://www.streambug.io/v/a29604
Pawson also gave YC for interfering with GK release. Interesting in light of some recent discussion here.
