What makes you think Robinson has had a rise? I haven't seen any Championship matches, but did his form skyrocket? Or just because he had that Milan transfer and apparently some epl interest? I think I saw he hit a few Champ team of the weeks, but was under the (maybe mistaken) impression that his form had been good the entire year, but that nobody here was that impressed cuz his team was terrible. Agree with rgli in that it's quite odd to see him in 90% of lineups when it seems egg simply doesn't rate him highly. Maybe that changes if his form has improved that much, hopefully.
Robinson cemented himself as a starter, won league wide awards, and was subject of a transfer bid to AC Milan that was scuppered only due to a failed medical. He still has interest from Milan, Chelsea, and Newcastle. I would consider that a rise. Berhalter reversed course to bring back Reggie Cannon, once the unworkable tactics were dropped. I suspect the same will happen with Robinson.
Wtf are you talking about? There was a thread of gifs on him from that game. He had some positive plays all of them combined dont offset these 5 defensive plays let alone the turnovers, lack of showing for the ball, etc. This isn't horrible or anything, but brazil literally ran a circle around him. We have players who it's harder to run circles around pic.twitter.com/MktKzxrAkl— ol velasquez (@away_goals) September 11, 2018 There are a lot of guys who owe antonee robinson for taking the spotlight off their 1v1 losses. He seems to have been a starter all year for Wigan, and hasn't been called in since what, a June friendly against Jamaica. I think the transfer and interest from EPL teams is absolutely important, but many here I think wouldn't take that into account (ie. gotta watch the US games, where he got smoked by Brazil). Hope Egg sees him differently now, or at least after his hopefully successful surgery, whenever it happens.
I cant think of anytime in USMNT history where an outside back not preventing a cross became the defining moment of their play. I know most people here refuse to accept new information and change their opinions, but this is one of the craziest. A young player took a poor angle on a top player and was beat to the end line, but then recovered nicely for the rest of the game. Meanwhile, there is some nut claiming the #6 in the same game played well and all of Aaron Long's mistakes are just ignored.

My rationale is pretty much B. We've mostly had Lovitz or Ream start at LB in meaningful games. I think Ream is serviceable in CONCACAF at LB, but we know he has some defensive lapses and gets beaten for pace, so it's not like we're sacrificing some sure fire defensive solidity by putting Dest there instead of him. I like A. Robinson, but I don't make a habit of watching relegation zone teams in the Championship, so I really haven't seen him play at all this year. I have a hard time justifying putting him in my lineup based on second-hand reports about his play or a rumored move to Milan. And a little bit of C...it seems weird to force Cannon/Yedlin to the bench so that Ream/Lovitz can play LB. It seems like it's a better overall 11 if 2 out of Dest/Cannon/Yedlin are out there instead of 2 out of Dest/Ream/Lovitz.
Unrelated, but the first thing I thought of when I saw this sentence was, “Timmy Chandler.” Except for Chandler it would be not preventing, defending, or caring about any cross

I'm not seeing it. McKennie gets pantsed and Trapp not only covers the recipient of the pass from McKennie's man but Trapp continues through to cut off the give back to McKennies man while McKennie daydreams. When you say they "circle" Trapp, what I see is Trapp closing the back door while 3 teammates take care of the ball carrier. I don't think you understand the game of team soccer. What do you think of Kellyn Acosta? Would he be better than Trapp in your opinion?
It's weird for me to be looking at the soccer writers and thinking, wait, don't we need more veteran leadership?
question- why does a poor showing against brazil completely nullify robinsons 6 other caps in which he was ok-really good (including 2 assists), and justify leaving him out of the team, while dest was beaten in embarrassing fashion in two of his 3 caps against far weaker opponents- and thats just part of the learning process in his case? somebody answer that for me without hiding behind some "berhalter dropped him, so that proves hes not good" nonsense- berhalters also given multiple caps to cory baird and djordje mihailovic.
Well, you know my belief but that's being twisted to saying that pointing out the reason Gregg chose Lovitz over ARobinson (and then using Lovitz as an offensive sub when we were down a goal) means that one "hates" MLS and is biased against it.
im not asking about any knock-on effects, im saying how can anyone justify dropping robinson (whos shown better) while excusing dest? and before anyone makes dumb arguments out of that- of course dests mistakes should be excused. my point is robinsons- against freaking brazil- should as well. its a moronic double standard.

I'd say that Robinson, Dest, Cannon and a lot of the other very young players need to be graded differently than established veterans who will no longer improve. If Robinson was not picked because of his defense I hope he was told what to work on and that they'd be watching him. And then I hope they are and if he does what they ask he gets brought back in. Having multiple attacking backs on both sides that are improving defensively is something the US has never had.
I think you were looking for a player who were there in the front of the attacker. But the image that popped in my mind was Eddie Lewis against Czech Republic? TBF he wasn't anywhere in the picture in that 5th minute, hence the problem. His overall career not defined by that play, but maybe his time as a left back?
In the '14 WC, in the sequence leading to Portugal's game-tying goal, Beez could've put a body on Ron, instead of standing there asking the man for a post-game jersey swap.
