    Yes

    It's

    [IMG] India 2022 [IMG]

    INDIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

The host, for the first time since 1979/80. A bold choice but imo the logical one for the growth of the sport in Asia's second-biggest nation.

As reported by the Australian FA:
    https://www.myfootball.com.au/news/india-announced-afc-womens-asian-cup-2022-hosts (Archive)

This means Maymol Rocky's team are the first to qualify.

[IMG] [IMG] The other bidders were Taiwan/Taipei and Uzbekistan.

In February 2020, the AFC meeting recommended India as host. They also talked about the club Women's Champions League, which will increase to 6 teams and beyond:
    https://www.the-afc.com/competition...mended-as-host-for-afc-women-s-asian-cup-2022 (Archive)

In the 1980 Asian Cup, Taiwan won the final 2-0 against a team known only as "India S"...

What I hope to see in India during this tourney are full stadiums.

U17WWC 2016 and then AFC Cup 2018 both played in Jordan had huge impact on social issues and women rights in Middle East, going well beyond this already quite progressive Muslim country. Still in terms of packing the stadiums both tourneys were seriously below average of what is seen in East Asia.

Women's football tournament during 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta (Indonesia) has done bit better but again nowhere close to what we see in China, Australia, Japan or Korea Rep.

I'd like to see AFC pushing "full staduims" agenda for Asian Cup in India. (move the tourney into 20k stadiums if you need to but make them full)

Yeah, this is a good point about Jordan - they had the same double-whammy of hosting a youth World Cup and the Asian Cup in 2 years.

Things like that will also need to go hand-in-hand with investment and a clear plan for years ahead in women's football, which is something India still needs to work on, despite all its potential.

In 2022, Jordan's aiming to qualify for its third Asian Cup in succession.

    Then it ALL WENT WRONG

    Now

    It's confirmed

    [IMG] India 2022 [IMG]

    (Confirming things takes time.)
The host nation's squad are "stoked", and according to the paper, "it's coming home", and if that phrase's past is any guide, "it" = disappointment

The last SAFF championship final seems longer ago than 2019, when India also beat Nepal, but wins will be hard to get in 2022: it's a real step up.

Could India possibly win a match at the Asian Cup? In the Asian Olympic qualifiers, they were a goal short of reaching the last 8, but drew away 3-3 in Myanmar. After that in 2019, India lost and drew in Vietnam in friendlies. India's last Asian Championship appearance was in 2003. (See their full results list.)

    Now announced:

AFC sets dates for expanded Women’s Asian Cup India 2022
    insideworldfootball.com/2021/01/28/afc-sets-dates-expanded-womens-asian-cup-india-2022
    (Archive)

"The competition will be expanded to 12 teams (from eight in Jordan [2018]) comprising three groups of four ... India has pre-qualified as hosts for 2022, alongside the three highest-ranked sides from the last AFC Women’s Asian Cup – Japan, Australia and China PR. Qualifiers for the remaining eight slots will take place from September 13 to 25, 2021 in a yet to be specified centralised venue."

Not sure what the qualifying format will be yet.

The finals have that slightly awkward system: 8 of 12 teams going to the quarterfinals. And, since we now know the very awkward World Cup 2023 qualifying system ... Will this Asian Cup put in 5 teams directly to the World Cup (plus Australia) and 2 teams to the World Cup playoff? So, probably every quarterfinalist here has a chance to play for a World Cup place?

Will it also require two playoffs to decide 5th and 6th place in the Asian Cup?

(If the AFC think it's getting too complicated, may I recommend the Australian system, whereby every round is named a 'Final' regardless of its finality)

In other news, U17 and U20 Women's Asian Cup 2022 qualifiers have been pushed back, and the India senior women's team were back together in a 45-day training camp.

I wonder if the AFC might be looking for a new host for the final tournament?

yeah, it's very possible thats why the draw was postponed. (or the tournament itself will be moved to a later date)

Interestingly, the U20 and U17 draws were postponed later, again - they would've happened the same day as the senior draw, 27 May. Are the three tournaments held in such a closely related way? Even if they're hosted in different countries?

I guess the host countries gov's can't make guarantees that the tournaments won't get cancelled in last minute. Maybe AFC is buying time while looking for other host countries?

The teams will be divided into four groups of four and four groups of three, with the winners of each group clinching their place in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022, scheduled to take place from January 20 to February 6.

Additionally, the hosts for the AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 Qualifiers consisting of Bangladesh, Chinese Taipei, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Palestine, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will be placed in a separate host pot. They will be drawn into the separate groups based on their positions in their ranking pot.

Due to the lower number of hosts, there will be no host team drawn into Group H and the AFC will follow-up with the Participating Member Associations drawn to this group for further arrangements on the venue details. Meanwhile Bangladesh, Indonesia and Nepal are granted conditional hosting rights, which will be re-evaluated by the AFC six weeks before the first match of the Group for a final decision.

Thailand, Korea Republic, Philippines, Jordan, Vietnam and DPR Korea, will be placed in Pot 1, while Pot 2 will consist of Bahrain, Islamic Republic of Iran, Palestine, United Arab Emirates, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Pot 3 will include Iraq as well as non-ranked teams from Pot 4 (10 non-ranked teams) consisting of Afghanistan, Guam, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, and Turkmenistan.

Despite your excellent effort, @Lechus7 I can't really say I understood much about the whole process, but thank you very much anyway!

The important part is that Japan automatically qualified. :p

It looks like a shame that Ubzekistan ended in the group with Korea Republic: I've got the feeling that they could have had a chance in almost any other group.

Jordan vs Iran and Korea vs Uzbek look like the juiciest matches of this qualification.

Yeah, they do invest some money in their women's football program lately.
I spoke with Bunyodkor (2nd placce in the League) academy coach the other day (when Uzbekistan played friendlies in Belarus) and she told me that some Uzbek players are ready to play in Europe but clubs like Sevinch don't want to release them.

Philippines vs. Hong Kong should also be intresting since it will be played on the roof of the world ;)

Just noted Palestine plays in Asia while Israel is with Europe. Obviously due to geopolitical problems.

Yeah, Israel was booted from AFC in 1974, and spent two decades as a FIFA nomad before officially joining UEFA in 1994.

And to be honest, I don't think a Palestine v Israel game would be a great idea right now. Be it men women or youth international.

Out of Group A, we could see Bahrain upset Chinese Taipei. Vietnam, Thailand, North Korea, Myanmar & South Korea shouldn't have any difficulties winning their group. Philippines should get by Hong Kong, but I wouldn't lock them in. Iran vs. Jordan should decide the Group G winner.

It remains to be seen if North Korea will participate (there are food shortages now in this country). Current political situation in Myanmar is also bit dodgy

Myanmar is set to host their group. Meanwhile, Group H has no host at the moment.
