Quentin Westberg signed for a one year deal. There's the insurance for Guzan. It's a one year deal and he's 36 himself, so he's not the long term plan. Two homegrown GKs on the roster. Not sure if they're planning on one of them taking the job in a year or two, or signing a starter once Brad is done.
To those that observe I say Merry Christmas, '17's! Hope you and yours know a peaceful and joyous day. Will chime in with more about the team in about a week or so.
Alan Franco has been sold to Sao Paulo. It isn't a loan but I still can't find a report that gives an amount of the sale. Some GAM should be coming in too with this sale.
Definitely a bit of house cleaning going on. Fair bit aimed at reducing wages on only part time players. Roberson is thinking at the moment Robinson will be good enough to start near the beginning of the season. Seems optimistic to me. Expect to hear about signings in the next couple weeks.
And now Dom Dwyer gets the axe. Clearing the deck I understand given the team's performance last 3 years and all the salary cap complications, but this one doesn't make sense. Dwyer was playing for minimum wage, was a veteran who was content in his supporting role, and was very productive coming off the bench.
Meh. Dom had 2 crucial goals but otherwise was, IMO, just an angrier Cisneros. I'd rather give Conway or some other prospect the chance to develop then rely on Captain Yellow Card. However, I say that hoping they're working on a plan for the team.
"Honk if you played for United" is what the bumper stickers will read. We have less than seven weeks to assemble and mesh a competitive squad. I think we lost one of our service dogs as well, but he went off to do good work, so that's a bonus.
We have re-signed Sedic. Seems easier these days to count who's still here instead of trying to keep track of who's gone
Preseason sched released. 1/28- @ Chattanooga 2/4- @ Atlante 2/8 @ Cruz Azul 2/15 AmFam Cup 2/18 @ St. Louis City
Which jersey do you have? The vintage home whites with red & blue trim? I keep thinking that would be a good template for a US jersey. I have a Chiefs pennant somewhere with Victor Nogueira's signature on it.
The USSF blew it when they went away from this: Simple and great. This could have been permanent, like Argentina's and Peru's stripes or Northern Ireland's panels.
Multiple reports today that Josef and Atlanta will agree to a dissolving his contract, after which he'll sign for Inter Miami. Means Atlanta will be free to sign a new DP.
We have signed Clement Diop as a keeper. 29 years old Senegalese. MLS vet- 50 appearances with LAG, Montreal and Inter since 2016. Probably the long-term hire if he pans out.
Red kit with the USSF patch. Not very exciting, but it does have Wolff and the #16 on the back. As to the Chiefs t-shirt, I wore it to Home Depot once and one of the guys stocking selves asked me if I was a fan of the movie Slapshot and the Hanson brothers. I get a different response from fans at the United games.
Guzan also appears prepped for full training from day 1, which is good. He's clearly the best option at keeper for right now.
That's a scary thought- our best option at GK is a 37 year-old coming off an ACL injury. How bad do you think Diop is? I'll be happy for Brad if he gets thru 2023 standing on both feet.
Let me prefence this by saying I love Brad, but the F.O. made a big mistake by protecting him when we had Alec Kann in the wings. That allowed our roster to get poached in the expansion draft. That said, Guzan isn't coming off a ACL injury, but rather an achilles heal rupture. If you can't believe he can come back from that then we should also write off Miles Robinson.
