Many NBA contracts are fully guaranteed. The NFLPA is moving towards asking for fully guaranteed contracts.

Sometimes, one says a made up statement enough that the declarant believes it to be true without remembering the source, only to realize the source was him or herself. I've done that once or twice here, only to Twitter search it and discover I'm wrong.

Fair points there. I honestly wasn't even thinking of the Rams and Avalanche. Kroenke definitely seems more competent that Haslam Sports Group. And Arsenal is genuinely one of the most enjoyable teams to watch in Europe right now. I could be wrong, but it seems it wasn't too long ago that Arsenal fans felt used or forgotten by Kroenke. And for a long time I feel like Rapids fans felt like they were an afterthought....though to be fair most MLS teams are an afterthought if the ownership group has a more profitable franchise elsewhere.

I dont follow any players Twitters but does anyone know what thier reaction has been to Porters firing?

Has there been a bunch of "Thanks Coach for everything and good luck" kind of stuff? I wouldn't expect anyone to say "Boy it's about time" but not saying a thing about your coach leaving would seem to speak volumes.

Ik NFLPA is pushing for that , that’s why everyone hates Haslam he opened up a can of worms. No owners want this obviously it hurts flexibility. Also you have to actually have 230m to put in escrow which Haslam has. The poorest two owners Bengals and Raiders might not have 230million that they don’t need and can just put in a account and not touch to over 1 players contract. Then what happens when 1 player because a lot of players getting that deal ? It’s a problem

It’s probably why the Bengals sold naming rights to Paul Brown stadium to Paycor. Hard to be competitive if Haslam and say Jerry Jones start doing this to get all the top players because the Raiders & Bengals just can’t keep up

Im not on twitter the Crew had a post on Instragram that was liked by Luis Diaz & Jordan Angeli.

it was a thank you tribute and the Porter family account said “Thankful for the memories our family experienced with the Crew”

The only thing I can figure for Fraser and Nancy is that they look at our recent transfers and payroll and decide they want to see what they can do at a club that spends money.

But ******** that noise. Give me Hugo Perez.

As per usual, much untruth here.

For years teams have sometimes guaranteed contracts for veteran stars up through the third year. Going through the fifth year is indeed unusual but since the first year in this case is a negligible pittance, they're really only guaranteeing serious money for four years, not five.

So, the actual difference is mostly three vs four years. Hardly a paradigm buster.

(At this point I would ask for the evidence that the other owners "hate" Haslam for giving Watson his deal, but since we both know that you can't provide it, I won't waste my time)

Then there's the issue of escrow.as it relates to Watson’s contract. (Note: I can provide documentation):

The Browns will be required to place $169 million into escrow as of March 31, 2023 due to LEAGUE policy. The NFL takes a "snapshot" (for want of a better term) of all fully guaranteed salaries on January 31 of each year. Any fully guaranteed payments not made by March 31 must be placed in escrow, up to 75 percent of the total contract value. Also, each team has a $15 million annual allowance.

    But not $250 million.

In any case, his contract was due largely to him having a ton of leverage. By comparison, Russel Wilson signed with the Broncos for five years with $161 million guaranteed, with a $50 million signing bonus, and the guaranteed amount goes up each year. It's a very similar deal, and the reason is the same as with Watson: he had leverage.

If not playing out of the back is what Red Bulls just did for the past 30+12 minutes of stoppage time, I don't want that.

Watson contract reset the market plain and simple. Browns only did it because they were desperate and Watson agent milked them.

Although I have not seen details, reports are that the five extension years are worth $245 million, including $165 million guaranteed. The contract binds Wilson, the former Seahawks quarterback turned Denver signal-caller after a trade in March, to the Broncos for seven years and $296 million. However, no matter what the numbers, the fact that it is a contract that’s not fully guaranteed is a win, a huge win, for NFL management.

so Wilson is not even close to the 100% guarantee of Watson. This is why Lamar Jackson didn’t make a deal he wanted 100% the Ravens said no. Bengals Bates disagreement was not about money it’s about guaranteed money. It’s a going to be a issue going forward thanks to …….

A separate issue — one that could result in a less welcoming reception at the league meetings next week for owner Jimmy Haslam — arises from Cleveland dramatically breaking ranks with the collective resistance to fully guaranteeing contracts multiple years into the future. Some teams have fully guaranteed veteran contracts in the third year. No one has fully guaranteed significant salaries five years into the future.

Haslam is a a$$hole breaking news so what did i say thst is untrue?

some owners may like the idea who knows. The NFL might have to start making rules because like I said not all teams can afford to do 1 or several of these long term deals which would circumvent the purpose of the salary cap and create a advantage for wealthy owners.

What the NFLPA needs to do is raise the minimum guaranteed and then cap the long term. It’s the guys who aren’t in the nfl long (avg 4 yrs) that get bad contracts. This is just making the rich richer and if they get a bigger piece of the pie the other guys get less (even if the pie gets bigger everytime )

God lord y'all will talk about literally anything other than the search for a Columbus Crew Head Coach.

    This is exhausting to watch.

I’m sure that Bez negotiates all player contracts. But I’m also sure that he and Porter would have discussed the potential terms in this case. Porter wouldn’t have said: “Bez, I’d like for you to sign Molino, what you pay him and length of contract is totally up to you.” Decisions like that affect the overall roster, so it just seems kinda dumb to imagine Bez just independently making all of those decisions. I still assume that there is (or was) collaboration and communication among several people on all major signings. Areas of specialty, too, of course: Bez knows the roster rules inside and out and is the primary negotiation; McGuinness scouts talent; Porter coaches the players who are acquired. But no one is solely responsible for player signings.

Why does no one ever mention Issa Tall? He is the assistant General Manager for Player Personnel for cripes sake. He's not exactly a potted plant.

We're talking coaching theory and player style having European roots. Sigi had exactly none or either.

It's like claiming Arena is a foreign coach because he vacationed in Italy once.

Because every time I see that name, it always makes me think of Jar Jar Binks trying to describe something really big.

I've personally talked to Issa Tall twice and he's a very nice young man, well spoken, and engaging. Great fashion sense.

I have no idea what his actual role is other than Bez's right hand man.
