Speaking of marketing - at the risk of going off topic - but has anyone seen any Crew marketing/advertising during this World Cup other than the stadium events?
Thierry Henry is available now...maybe they were waiting until Belgium was out of the WC. There is a connection with Nancy there as well!
I’ve seen one commercial advertising the Crew at half time of a game, I think it was Mexico v Argentina
Boggles the mind, doesn't it? ROI - Yeah, sure, I'll give logic that to you. Although I'll spend about the next 20 years claiming that there's always brand awareness work to be done. Budget concerns? Doubtful, but who knows. It really just adds credence to the theory that sellouts aren't the goal for the franchise anymore - they're comfortable with the amount of tickets they've sold and the demand for premium suites and so they think there's no need to advertise. Which I can somewhat understand but is a serious culture shift.
Alright, did my third tour of the lockerroom and just noticed this: How did Caleb Porter use airpods?!?
Well, yes, there are some seats available and there's no question that they'd like to sell them but spending thousands and thousands of dollars on ads isn't the way to do it. At this point, no one is going to see a Crew tv ad, slap themselves on the head and say "Holy cow! There's a soccer team in Columbus and I could actually buy some tickets and go watch them! Who knew?" They have a whole bunch of direct sales agents working the phones to sell whatever inventory they have and, frankly, they would probably rather not advertise that walk up sales are always available as that tends to decrease the impetus for buying season seats. It would seem to me that whatever small number of sales you might - MIGHT - gain from splashing a bunch of cash on ads wouldn't really get covered by the few tix you would sell. From a marketing perspective that money would be better spent elsewhere.
I believe that this applies to personal devices and the claim could be made that Caleb's airpods were part of his team-managed coaching equipment.
They spent a lot of money on things today. Like 3k people at least were there, and they now have all of their information because it was ticketed.
You might as well take the word "Crew" out of the equation. If people aren't next-day streaming via commercial-free method, they're most likely starting shows 20-40 minutes after they start airing and fast-forwarding through the commercials. Bingo. Every time anyone fills anything out at either stadium (for any event they go to), the information is collected by the Crew FO. Example: "Hey, this is John LastName from the Columbus Crew. I noticed you went to EventXYZ last week. Have you ever been interested in a Crew game as a way to entice clients?"
Yes, as a matter of fact Mr Lastname, we've talked about it, but for us, hookers and blow works pretty well. Thanks.
Nancy's development led to the sale of two players from Montreal Canadian gem Ismael Kone is set to join Watford, here we go — it will be record transfer fee for Montreal 🚨🟡⚫️🇨🇦 #transfersPozzo’s project includes Watford and Udinese for near future — it’s the most attractive one for Kone despite offers from Italian, German, Dutch clubs. pic.twitter.com/6yIAPjFG7J— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) December 4, 2022 There will be a livestream for the announcement tomorrow. I don't have a link.
Just another in the growing line of young (20 yo) players that Nancy developed and which are now scooting off to Europe. It would have made a lot more sense for Joey to just stfu, stop meddling with the coaching and stop acting like the entitled brat offspring of a mafia-connected mozzarella company. Nancy is joining a long parade of coaches who Saputo has chased off and who hate his guts. Montreal deserves better. For Columbus, guys like Farsi and JRR and Sands should be doing cartwheels up at OHPC. Nancy isn't the least bit afraid to play the kids.
Will be interesting to see Crew fan reactions to young players we sell. We haven't had that experience yet. As a fan base we tend to get very attached to our players. The thought that we have a superb young talent but sell him and don't get benefit of him contributing to our trophy case longer term will be hard to cope with. That is unless they contribute to championchip while they're here and also if Bez is able to have rest of roster & youth pipeline stocked with enough talent to win without them.
I know some posters will say I am wrong but we really should be better at youth development for a variety of reasons. I personally believe that Porter has a clear track record of being a poor developer of young talent as a professional coach. I hope he was the clog in the machine.
