Jumping in here to mention that the league changed the rules surrounding caution accumulation a few years ago, and I am pretty sure the first yellow counts now when there's a 2CT.
The ESPN+ match replay didn’t completely show the card sequence. Ford did do a bunch of walking around with the yellow to his side. when finally the player came back out of the stands, Ford gestured upfield, as there was an incident that happened in that direction about 15 seconds earlier and displayed the yellow. He pointed towards the sideline and then the stands and the video cut to a replay. He may have shown the yellow again or switched cards at the time.
