Yeah, but Phoenix still had the D-Backs in 2001. Without the Seahawks Super Bowl in 2014 you have to go back to 1979(?) and the now-relocated Sonics for Seattle's last major championship. They are a sneaky choice though, especially with what the Coyotes are going through right now.
Minneapolis is the other one that comes up, but the Twins got two and then you get those Lakers championships way back. It's sort of a battle up against Phoenix. Minneapolis has more, but they've had a lot longer to do it. Phoenix, other than a blip in 2001 has... nothing across all four sports.
Right. It's Sonics v D'Backs with one win each if you remove the Seahawks. So I think it'd be a tossup. I think people forget Phoenix because the population has ballooned so recently and it just doesn't feel like it's possible there are dedicated long-suffering fans, which maybe is a factor. But it's a giant metro area with 4 teams and 1 championship. So eventually, if the drought continues, it will be a clear #1.
Yeah, but at least Phoenix still has the D-Backs... (And technically, Seattle does have 2 major championships, being the first American city to win the Stanley Cup with the Metropolitans back in the day)
Yep, Boston fans take the cake in terms of a city that is insufferable about their sports teams. I guess that’ll happen when you get kids who have been born, grown up, and started their own families without seeing the Patriots have a losing season, and claiming 12 championship banners across that time frame. Anything less than absolute dominance doesn’t make sense for them and is somehow proof that the leagues are rigged.
