Relatively unimportant question that just crossed my mind: does the VAR operate from Atlanta for the final? Kind of a shame if they don’t get to participate in any of the ceremony post-game.

Are the referees typically involved in any post-game ceremony/happenings? I would think they'd get out of Dodge.

But will they be able to find a parking place?

I think he meant like a celebration with refs after the game.

Well that, but they always get medals on the field as well.

Yes, it seems traditional in professional cup competitions for the referee crew to be presented with medals on field at the end of the final, but I'm not sure that's ever included the VOR crew before. I would expect Greeson to get a medal in person since he'll be in attendance even if he has no specific duties other than to be on standby.

Kinda feels like the 3rd string GK when you win as a club/NT.

Pre-game photo in LA included both Fischer and Muschik so I think it's safe to say the VOR is in the stadium today.

Two handed advantage to start the game in the first 2 minutes. I like it.

Steve Cherundolo a bit upset. What seems like a deflection for a corner Elfath goes goal kick and replay shows it was a deflection

If only the player in the wall hadn’t turned away from heading the ball square on, and instead handballed it to protect his face, he’d have been fine… ;)

Possible SPA yellow for Martinez on the foul that led to the scoring free kick declined by Elfath, then minutes later Uhre gets fouled in a very similar position on the other and , also no card from Elfath.

I think earlier in the season these were SPA yellows, but the consistency was clear in this case.

Which way did he call that?

EDIT: Looks like Caranza got an elbow to the head and he gave the free kick to LAFC

I really never understood the value of awarding SPA cautions for these careless fouls on the edge of the penalty area whilst running into traffic tbh.

Elfath’s disciplinary, besides avoiding a real SPA by blowing for HT :D, was actually optimal IMO.

Elfath called a foul committed by Caranza, which I thought was correct. Acosta’s arm was in a normal position and he jumped straight up, then Caranza jumped into him.

By contrast I think Elliot’s arm usage there in the 53rd ish minute was reckless, in my view he should have received his second yellow there.

i thought that’s what happened in real time but the replay seemed *much* more like Caranza was elbowed in the face without committing any foul himself

Missed advantage by Elfath there in roughly the 71st minute, he apologizes immediately.
