It's a final, 10/2: NYC 2:1 ORL Points Wins GD (Games remaining, Max Points) PHI 64 18 +42 (1, 67) MTL 62 19 +11 (1, 65) NYC 52 15 +15 (1, 55) NYRB 50 14 +8 (1, 53) CIN 46 11 -+5 (1, 49) ORL 45 13 +1 (2, 51) MIA 45 13 -10 (2, 51) ------------------------------- CLB 45 10 +6 (2, 51) CHA 41 13 -4 (2, 47) That helps. So, here's how it breaks down for us. If the Crew win their final two matches, they're in, regardless of what happens with Miami and Orlando because they'd finish ahead of Cincinnati. I'm pretty sure that four points from the two matches gets us in. I haven't figured out any combination of results where a three-way tie at 49 between CLB, ORL and MIA is possible. (Which I think also means that Cincinnati is back in control of its own destiny.) Winning in Charlotte midweek doesn't clinch anything, because it would still leave open the possibility (depending on the other results) of all three teams remaining tied on 48 points, which would leave us out. But as far as I can tell, either a win or draw in Charlotte WOULD mean that we controlled our own destiny on Decision Day.
Let’s also not forget that the home playoff game is still in play. We only need to win out and have a couple of other results go our way (Red Bulls lose their last game, and Miami drop points in one of their last two games), so I think it’s worth getting our hopes up
How weird would it be if THAT'S how it wound up? But I don't want to get too far ahead. This continuation game in Charlotte wednesday is going to be somewhat unpredictable. It's got weird roster implications, we still don't know about Mensah, it's on TURF, don't forget, and this is the same Charlotte team that just unbelievably waxed Philadelphia 4-0 yesterday.
I'd have preferred a draw in the NYC/ORL game, as that would have meant we could still catch NYC. But if there had to be a winner, NYC was better for us.
Out west, Seattle, finally, misses the playoffs for the first time. A moment of silence, please OK that's enough.
An outdoor NFL stadium in North Carolina has astroturf? There's many northern teams, including the Browns, that can grow grass with no issues, and the Panthers/Charlotte FC go with turf?
Tepper (the as of a month ago second richest NFL owner) specifically said its cheaper and that's the only reason why he changed it out.
Not surprised. It's easily the most compelling of all the matches in the East. I thought maybe they'd wait for Wednesday's results, but it's the right call.
AstroTurf is still around. They’ve moved on to being more similar to Field Turf. Little bit different installation process and seems to use more of a silica fill rather than the rubber pellets. Marysville’s new stadium has it.
OK, then Astroturf as it used to be isn't around anymore. The Astroturf of the past was basically just a carpet on top of concrete. Like the MetroStars used to play on at the Meadowlands. I've played indoor games on it, and it sucks d***s. FieldTurf is just weird grass.
Still around for indoor football*/indoor soccer/box lacrosse *The remaining leagues play indoor football, not arena football, because there's no rebound nets.
By the way, I don't know if the Charlotte game will actually be on TV. It''s slated for Bally Sports Great Lakes at 7 and the Guardians play their regular season finale at 4 (immovable time, it's MLB's version of Decision Day).
DirecTV says that the Guardians ( boy do I hate that name; thats really the best they could come up with?) will be on Bally Sports Great Lakes, and the Crew game will be carried on Bally Sports Ohio.
Weirder still that the exact same scenario is in play out west. RSL v POR, MIN v VAN. Four teams fighting for two spots. Each team can clinch with a win.
The name was selected in part to keep the "dians" at the end. I've heard Dolan wasn't happy about being forced to change the name. Also, the easternmore pair of the Guardians of Traffic pylons are right outside of the Corner of Carnegie and Ontario.
