Average position of opponents for the remainder of the season (conference seeding): 5) Orlando - 6.83 6) Columbus - 7.20 7) Cincinnati - 11.00 —————————————— 8) New England - 8.60 9) Miami - 8.33 Basically all the teams chasing us have easier remaining schedules than Cbus. We still only have two wins against playoffs teams this season. Our remaining schedule: @ Miami (bubble team) v Portland (playoff team) v Red Bulls (playoff team) @ Charlotte (out) @ Orlando (playoff team)
New England are at the Red Bulls as we speak. Cincinnati hosts the Quakes. If both teams win tonight, we would find ourselves below the line at night's end. (Although both of those teams would have one more match played.)
I should complain more often. 2-1 Red Bulls. So, we're still going to be in at least 7th place after tonight.
Cincy up 2-0, goal 1 minute before halftime and another 1 minute after. This holds, they pass us in the standings.
Cincy smashing SJ. We are clinging on to that final playoff spot for dear life. At least we have a game in hand over most the teams around us.
Saturday, 9/10 CHA 1:0 NYC NYRB 2:1 NE ATL 4:2 TOR CIN 6:0 SJ PHI 5:1 ORL CHI 3:1 MIA RSL 0:0 DC Points Wins GD (Games remaining, Max Points) PHI 63 18 +46 (3, 72) MTL 53 16 +8 (4, 65) NYRB 50 14 +10 (3, 59) NYC 46 13 +12 (3, 55) ORL 42 12 -1 (5, 57) CIN 42 10 -+5 (4, 54) CLB 41 9 +6 (5, 56) ------------------------------- NE 38 9 -1 (4, 50) MIA 36 10 -13 (5, 51) ATL 36 9 -5 (4, 48) CHA 35 11 -9 (5, 50) CHI 35 9 -8 (4, 47) TOR 34 9 -8 (3, 43) DC SCREWED I think we can officially stick the fork in Toronto. They give up four to Atlanta, including a hat trick by a CENTER BACK? Yikes. Cincy throttles San Jose. Their GD goes from -1 to +5 in one swoop, as they move up to 6th. New England loses. Yay. NYC is dropping so fast that despite how disappointing we've been, we actually have enough points in hand to PASS them now. (Not that I'm holding my breath.) The trip to MLS Cup from the East is Philly's to lose. They're just running riot right now. The Fire, who didn't even look like they played soccer at LDC, put up three in a home win over Miami. They're stuck at five points back now. Our match there Tuesday is now doubly important. If we take any points from them, it could be the nail in their coffin. And a scoreless draw at RSL finds DC as the first team from the East to be eliminated.
Amazingly, it’s still in our hands to host a playoff game. Our two games in hand on NYCFC along with the opportunity to take points off Orlando means it’s in our power to finish 4th. Sure this team has shown that it is incapable of capitalizing on games in hand, but let’s ignore that and have some hope. At least until Tuesday when our hopes get crushed again.
Here's an impressive stat: Philadelphia Union's goal difference is +46. That's higher than the number of goals SCORED by 17 MLS teams.
Updated Points Per Game (PPG needed to reach 48 points) 4) NYCFC - 1.48 (0.66) 5) Orlando - 1.45 (1.20) 6) Cincinnati - 1.40 (1.50) 7) Columbus - 1.41 (1.40) ————————————————— 8) New England - 1.27 (2.50) 9) Miami - 1.24 (1.71) 10) Atlanta - 1.20 (3.00) As a reminder, 48 points was 7th last year. Really, only Miami has a realistic shot of making the playoffs from below the line, which makes tomorrow’s game huge.
Really unbelievable how Houston aren’t leading the Revs right now. Would be a big help if they could find the net
A win by @ColumbusCrew over @InterMiamiCF tonight will all but secure #Crew96 a playoff spot and eliminate #NERevs and #InterMiamiCF with the current result that’s about to be final in Houston #DejaloTodo— BostonArman (@BostonArman) September 14, 2022 A win by @ColumbusCrew over @InterMiamiCF tonight will all but secure #Crew96 a playoff spot and eliminate #NERevs and #InterMiamiCF with the current result that’s about to be final in Houston #DejaloTodo (That person assumes the Crew game finishes tonight.)
Yeah, NE would be six back with three to play. MIA and ATL would be 8 back with four. That's not quite done and dusted, but boy would it be a mountain to climb.
Of course, if Miami win, we're two points above the line with no games in hand on anyone and still very much in a dogfight.
Tuesday, 9/13 MTL 3:2 CHI MIA 2:1 CLB HOU 3:1 NE Points Wins GD (Games remaining, Max Points) PHI 63 18 +46 (3, 72) MTL 56 17 +9 (3, 65) NYRB 50 14 +10 (3, 59) NYC 46 13 +12 (3, 55) ORL 42 12 -1 (5, 57) CIN 42 10 -+5 (4, 54) CLB 41 9 +5 (4, 53) ------------------------------- MIA 39 11 -12 (4, 51) NE 38 9 -3 (3, 47) ATL 36 9 -5 (4, 48) CHA 35 11 -9 (5, 50) CHI 35 9 -9 (3, 44) TOR 34 9 -8 (3, 43) Well, at least we can laugh at New England.
I believe we will make the playoffs because missing the playoffs is harder than making the playoffs. This is especially true when your main competition is a busted ass New England, a Miami with two remaining road matches, and an Atlanta team that hates each other and their coach. I mean, we all hate our coach too, but unfortunately we probably have at least five more games to watch him. Glory to Columbus.
