No news on our new secondary kit for this year but the Dynamo have a new sponsor that will be on the training shirt:

The Fubo deal could be a lot of money:

The top end of that amount has a condition:

    Copied from r/mls:

So it looks like the earliest sports betting could become legal in Texas is 2023 with legalization possibly being more likely in 2024 or 2025. Regardless, this deal is worth $10M up front with an additional $1M each year for three years, so $13M guaranteed. Not bad.
Then if sports betting does become legalized, $15M up front with an additional $15M each year for ten years, so an incremental $165M.

"The deal includes a $10 million signing bonus, and Fubo is committing to spend $1 million per year for marketing rights"

that is the no bs part, effectively a practice shirt sponsorship

"Should the state legalize betting in a way that gives sports teams the right to distribute licenses, Fubo will pay the club an additional $15 million bonus, then commit to another $15 million annually over a 10-year period."

    that is the speculative part

to be real we probably just spent half the no bs bonus on ferreira and will probably soon spend the other half on the 3rd DP, as i didn't get the sense segal is putting his own money in. hence my OPM comment. to be fair, some resources. to be unfair, not his, and maybe enough to cover a year of parker salary going forward, not additional DP level stuff. i assume for those he will milk the shirt sponsorship and whatnot.

once that's expended it's $1m a year for the shirt sponsorship with a "gamble" on whether gambling gets legalized.

also fwiw since this has come up, BBVA and PNC merged, hence the stadium name change. like reliant became NRG. so that's just an adjustment and not a new sponsor with new funds.

this would also explain why we went from rummaging about the leaguer clearance bins for clark and steres to throwing money at ferreira and others. with implications when the money's spent.

    Terrific upgrade in jersey sponsor!
I mean there were several years where we had the dreaded blank center front chest look in MLS. Now John Walker has hit a grand slam in this sponsorship deal!

    This from that Yahoo.com article:

Market access will be critical to Fubo Gaming’s approach, and should it open, Texas is expected to be a huge market. It has about 29 million people, making it the second-largest state in the country behind California. Texas also has five of the 15 largest cities in the U.S. and is home to 11 teams in the five major U.S. leagues.

“Our plan is very much to be a national sports betting company,” Fubo Gaming president Scott Butera said in a telephone interview. “We have a national streaming platform, and our desire is to promote sports betting within our streaming platform, so the more states that we’re in, the more we can cross over between streaming customers and wagering customers.”

The Texas legislature considered a bill last year that would grant its professional sports teams licenses that they can pass along to partners (a similar law passed in Arizona and another in Ohio). Bills structured this way are a big benefit to local sports teams, who become a limited commodity for companies looking to secure a license. Butera said he was “very confident” that Texas’ eventual legislation would keep that language.

Fubo Sportsbook isn’t the only operator to already secure potential market access through a Texas sports team. DraftKings, for example, has a commercial partnership with the Houston Rockets (part of its $1.56 billion acquisition of the Golden Nugget’s iGaming business), which gives the bookmaker similar rights. PointsBet has a deal with Austin FC which is also part marketing agreement and part provisional market-access accord.

The Segal family made a crapload of money developing and buying and selling power plants. This is a really interesting deal

my guess is the 2025 legislature is more likely, mainly because right now there are no budget issues that will get the legislature’s attention on legalizing sports gambling and the legislature is likely to move a bit more right in this next year. Personally, I see no reason why we let all of the gaming revenue go out of state

No. No. No. That is complete bullshit. (Not you -- MLS.com saying gambling could become legal in next three years.) Gambling expansion is not in the cards anytime soon. Mid-term first term elections go against the president. So Dems are not about to become players in Texas. Current GOP is dominated by religious right sworn to fight all that is evil including gambling. All gambling expansions happen when there is a big budget crisis. Texas is currently flush. And if things become tight for 2025 medical cannabis is probably at the front of that line over gambling.

But the Dynamo should seek out and find a cannabis sponsor to go with fubo. We could have a big pot leaf on the front of our uniforms! I mean since we are sponsored by illegal activities now.

The ad on the practice shirts is for a legal activity: FuboTV streaming service. My understanding is that Fubo is paying for things that are legal now in Texas. If gambling is legalized in Texas then they would be paying more for another legal activity.

I could see the State willing to make sports gambling legal and not casinos/slots/poker. They will find an approach that let's billions in so the Cowboys/Astros of the world can get massive funds and keep up with the rest of the country but then look good to the base by not allowing smoky slot halls to take over.

Um. Do we not have a sponsorship related to gambling in Texas? Or are you going on the technicality of the contingency provision? I'll agree to adding the phrase "maybe..." to the medical cannabis shirt sponsorship.

btw ... I acknowledge your technical correctness. I've never tried to be technically correct on this conversation. Just tongue in cheek without biting it off.

They always could see it that way. I'm confident the traditional opponents, mainly religious groups, will continue to oppose any expansion of gambling. Or maybe your right and Tillman Firtitta will succesfully draw to an inside straight.

Why make our training kits gray? We look like MNUFC. If they were baby blue I would buy one. Gray isn't one of our colors.

It looks like it’s very common in the league. Both LA teams, Austin, Dallas, Seattle and Orlando (just the ones I took a look at) all seem to be using the same gray. End it f the day it’s a training top no need to put a lot of thought into it, at least in the preseason. We could possibly see different designs come in once the season begins.

The Houston ones are usually gray. At least the ones that the players actually wear for training. Sometimes they wear variations pre-game and the team will sell some of those as well.

fubo is on the practice/pregame jersey not the game one.

my two cents, the black jerseys have been creative and unique lately but the orange game and grey training jerseys have generally been off the league's adidas xerox. my punchy response would be, dear dynamo, how many training jerseys do you sell? i am sure boring grey requires little effort and adidas and MLS can handle most of that for them. i am sure they've sold like 10 of them, exaggerating, but you get my point. put some effort in. you'll get it back in merch sales.

i'm with you on the baby blue. shame they've not exploited that look. that or the "spain" pinstripe look we had for the brief period. best jersey they've had.

how we've handled things the last 10 years shouldn't be treated as gospel for anything. system, personnel, payroll, kit, new logo, anything. "but this is the training jersey color bruin and barnes' team played in." really? pretty good anti-argument.

ditto the preseason schedule. etc. etc. we too often seem on auto-pilot.

Again, there’s no reason to think this much about training tops. Just let Adidas/MLS handle it for you and focus on other things. There’s no reason to do something different just for the sake of doing something different. It’s literally practice jerseys.

    Same here.
Our Space City Blue color has been dropped recently and it is not wise. I mean what other pro soccer club around the globe has the unique color combination of our club with our traditional orange, white orange uniform look with the added colors of sky blue and black?!?

Seems like we are exclusively black and orange and the Dash get the Space City Blue participation.

I am sure I am in the minority on this one but I would like a white kit to go with the orange main jersey and no black one.

No brother you ain't alone, I would love a white away kit. Especially one with orange or baby blue piping. I think orange shorts and a white top would look great on the t.v. for away games.

I really don't know where the whole "Paint it Black" thing came from, other than some marketing genius thought it was a real cool urban thing to do (or they just like the Rolling Stones' song).

Simple rule in sports IMO: when you turn the game on TV, you should readily be able to identify the team by the colors. Dynamo were/are the only true Orange team in MLS - we should wear Orange jerseys whenever possible and then use white as the alternate with orange shorts or orange lettering. Full stop

I agree the orange is so dominant you can pretty much do what you want with the away shirt. Though the way I see it most of the rest of the league has pretty generic white away jerseys. As for the Paint It Black thing, the black jerseys generally look a lot better.

    https://www.footballkitarchive.com/houston-dynamo-kits/

The worst black jersey here (not counting the “2019 special”) is better than the best white jersey.
