Wasn’t he rumored to be going to RSL or someplace?

    Thx,

    Jay!

Could be. I haven’t been tracking all the rumors during silly season. Regardless of where he goes, it’ll be the first time he’s played professionally outside Germany.

It’s not like he’s got a shot at going to Qatar this year, so the logic of coming to MLS is unclear. His national team career is basically over unless Berhalter loses all three games and gets canned.

DC has acquired an international roster spot from Seattle for the rest of this year for the low low price of $50,000 in 2023 Garberbucks.

The euro window is closed (for players in contract) so either we are going for an MLS (INT) player or a SA/CA player.

Please explain SA/CA for the MLS impaired.

Goff's tweet implies that the spot is for the current influx of players -- Morrison, Palsson and Benteke. Remember that Estrada is still on the roster until he finds another gig. I assume Robertha also occupies an int'l slot. Don't know the status of Djeffal and K. Smith. Both went to US colleges, so I assume they either have green cards or can get them fairly soon. Romo clearly is international as is Taxi. Not sure who else.

Djeffal and Kimarni Smith are both internationals.

Current internationals on DC's roster are Brad Smith (injured so doesn't take a spot), Samake (on loan to Loudoun, doesn't take a spot), Taxi, Estrada, Robertha, Kamara, Kimarni Smith, Djeffal, Romo, Rodriguez, Morrison, and Palsson. They'll need to find another spot when Benteke gets his work permit.

Our window controls what comes in to us from any other nation. Other leagues' windows control what comes in to them. MLS' incoming window is closed to come in from anywhere.
    • The registration windows - the dates between which MLS may request the international transfer certificate of a player under contract in another country - are as follows:
      • Primary Transfer Window: Thursday, February 10, 2022 – Wednesday, May 4, 2022
      • Secondary Transfer Window: Thursday, July 7, 2022 – Thursday, August 4, 2022

    Also:

"During the season, trades that involve players must occur during either the Primary Transfer Window or Secondary Transfer Window."

    https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/2022-mls-roster-rules-and-regulations

So, neither of those (in contract SA/CA players or MLS trade for international) are options.

We could still sign someone out of contract.

Any news on Hopkins' injury? He'll be difficult to replace, with Gressel gone.

Difficult to replace Jackson Hopkins? Maybe Im tripping but the new car smell wore off with him long ago. Energy can only get you so far, need to show some flashes.

    The attacking unit should be

Benteke, Ravel, Taxi and Martin Rodriguez.

I would like to see more of Ted Ku'Dipietro.

Rooney considered Hopkins good enough to send our leading assist man Gressel to Vancouver. Hopkins shows more than just energy.
I don't disagree with your "attacking unit," although Morrison might be more of a two-way man, and I agree totally about wanting to see more of Ted KuDi.

Apparently he is fine, should be available, per Goff.

I thought Gressel was traded because Rooney did not want to use a 3CB system with 2 wingbacks and Gressel is not a Right winger or right back?!

Ya, but if you're going to play him at one of those, it'd be right wing. I think point being he likes Hopkins' potential more than he likes Gressel's anticipated production at that position, and certainly for the price.

Not trying to be contrarian. I think most people would play Gressel at RB if they had to. He's not good in 1v1's. He's not exceptionally fast. He's not dynamic.

He can really only cross and pass.

He’ll never play for DC, he’s too good. He’ll be off to Europe as soon as he turns 18. At least this way, United will be compensated.
