If he's willing to stay for $X and his value is commensurate with $X, sign him. I get what you are saying, but you can't really compare salaries like that. There are always going to be outlier players across the league that are incredible values for their position and contribution. That doesn't mean it's realistic for another team to sign a Fall-caliber player for $100k. Maybe some of this is semantics, because the way I look at it is... The highest number I'd be willing to throw Fontas is probably in the $300k range. A third-string CB that has system and league experience for $300k, all while freeing up $800k to bring in someone better? Sure, I'd take that deal. Would Fontas take that deal? Likely not.
