Wouldn't hate any of our three elder statesmen returning, assuming they're paid appropriately. Would be shocked to see all three though.

I'm ready to move on from Melia. His drop off was by far the most notable of the 3.

Zusi and Espinoza should retire as SKC players. I hope we don't have another Besler situation. That goes both ways (player needs to recognize diminished value to club).

Melia, I agree he dropped off tremendously. He's an extremely athletic keeper but positioning and reading the game are not his strength. Those keepers don't age well.

Yeah we can't let our all-time appearances leader go play half a dozen games for St Louis before retiring. I hope they can find a salary he'll be happy with!

Yeah, unless he's absolutely lighting it up at all levels, that's a pretty steep price for a guy with that little of a CV.

I'd love to see them sign someone perhaps a bit more blooded for the position. Would love, say, a 28 year old.

For those of you saying Zusi is too young to play right back, here's a rumor for you.

The scouts hit home runs with both of their last 2 picks so I hope they did just as well with this one. Here’s hoping he is both a playmaker and a destroyer.

In fairness, the d-mids we have are generally either decently successful La Liga vets or visibly unsuccessful. Last time we had a decent 6 we didn't get from Spain was, what, Julio Cesar?

Yes they did, but that doesn't mean they didn't learn their lesson. Hopefully, they picked a good one this time. We will have to wait until the start of next season to see if this guy is the real deal. Either way, the bad news is that Rosell is still the backup unless Walter is pushed back there again.

Based on the play this year, dropping Walter deeper and inserting another midfielder is a better option than playing Rosell another minute.

The really sad part of this is burning $475,000 for a guy to sit on the bench and rarely, if ever, get on the field in league play.

there really is no point in an elder statesman keeper who's game has fallen off to the point where he can't be effective. He will always be a legend, but I don't want to see a declining Melia out there any more. Better to have a youngster making the mistakes he now makes

i can't see Uri playing in league this season. Maybe he can be the Open Cup or leagues cup option if people are tired. But I would think that when it matters to us, it will be new guy at the 6, and when he can't go, Walter

The upside hope for this one is that getting a La Liga spot starter is still a big get for MLS. He played, but not a ton. He had 19 league appearances, one cup, and averaged 63 minutes per app in 21-22. In that, he only had 5 full 90 appearances. So downside, he wasn't often playing up to expectations. Upside: He's fresh!
His usage profile and age are not that different than Thommy (though you have to go back to 18-19 to get a comparable season for Thommy, when he averaged 66 minutes per appearance).
Sadly, the other comp is Fontas in his last full season with Celta Vigo. TBF, PV got pretty much exactly what he wanted in Fontas, a player who when healthy and protected could make his dream of possession really click. We just think he was wrong to want a ball playing, slow, not so much defense CB, esp when he paired that with the same guy at D-Mid.
Bottom line, I get why you're not sold, but I'm sunshine and daisies on this one. There is a really solid history of meh guys from big four leagues proving themselves to a studs in MLS. I think he might be one of those.

Good that Kortne was protected. My daughter has technical training sessions scheduled with him!

Regarding the available list, I thought Sweat ended the season strongly. Hope he doesn't get selected. Hope Melia and Roger don't get selected for nostalgia reasons. As for the others (minus McIntosh), don't let the door hit you on the way out.

It'd make no sense for them to select Melia or Espinoza, both are eligible for MLS free agency so it'd be a wasted pick.

That is good to know. They both have value and I hope they are with SKC next year.
