With the news of Paxten Aaronson soon to be sold to Eintracht Frankfurt, this is as good a time as any to start up the off season thread. Here's a list of potential MLS free agents as of July 2022: https://mlsplayers.org/news/2023-free-agent-list-release Now some on this list have resigned with their respective clubs (Bedoya as one example). Really hope Philly picks up Burke's option. A few potential players in that list: Alex Muyl would be a good signing for depth ands cover for Bedoya. He has experience playing in the Red Bull pressing system from his time with RBNY and their academy. Brooks Lennon as a possible replacement for Wagner? Not sure if Atlanta has picked up his option or not. Erik Hurtado is a player that could provide striker depth, and an energetic pest option off of the bench if they don't bring Burke back. If the Union don't bring Bendik back there are a couple good options for that backup/competition for Freese role: Alex Bono, & Evan Bush.
Muyl is a good thought. Isn't Lennon a right back ? I think Riasco is going to provide striker depth, they paid good money for him. I wish we had a couple of MLS veterans on the bench in that final, inexperience cost is dearly
Sources confirm: New York Red Bulls finalizing signing of Jamaica int'l forward Cory Burke. The deal will be two years plus an option for 2025. @KristianRDyer first to report.Burke, 30, had 7g/5a in 1,177 mins for the Philadelphia Union last year. 25 career MLS goals. pic.twitter.com/GtQDINqMrJ— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) November 17, 2022
Appreciate and grateful for Burke’s efforts. Wish him well. Thought he stepped up his game this season in his contract year, and I wonder if he reverts to mean now that a new contract is in place. Is Chris Donovan the new Burke?
Officially official: Paxten Aaronson news:You already know the Union get $4 million up front.I understand the incentives could more than double the Union's total haul over time, but it is over time - not just one year. And the sell-on fee is over 20%:https://t.co/biLjbNNy3F(📸: @jomoreno007)— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) November 17, 2022
Any word on Kai Wagner getting transferred? I couldn't find anything new the other day when I looked. I'm resigned to losing him, but it's still gonna suck.
This article doesn't mention specifics regarding Wagner, but does give an overview of what Tanner and Curtin are looking for. https://www.inquirer.com/soccer/phi...fer-rumors-striker-ernst-tanner-20221118.html
Philadelphia Union have acquired midfielder Andres Perea from @OrlandoCitySC.Welcome to Philly, @andresperea06!📝 https://t.co/Pvkd5aKycZ#DOOP pic.twitter.com/YIUs6H3Ep2— Philadelphia Union (@PhilaUnion) December 6, 2022
Looks like the rumors of Kai going to Leeds won’t be happening. Honestly not surprised. Every transfer window we hear about him leaving and after every window he ends up staying. Excl: Leeds United are now preparing an offer for Red Bull Salzburg defender Maximilian Wöber. 🚨⚪️ #LUFCDiscussions expected to take place for fee around €11m plus €5m add-ons. Wöber, important player for Salzburg as he’s the captain. pic.twitter.com/jIfj5a0ucP— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) December 27, 2022
I really don’t believe any of the rumors when it comes to Kai. Personally I think he’ll end up being a Union lifer.
The Guardian reported the other day that Leeds are still looking at Kai, along with Wober. It's the silly season...
Leeds has signed Wober. After looking into it, it appears Wober was mostly playing as a left back at Red Bull Salzburg. So I think that’s the final nail for the Kai to Leeds rumor.
Gazdag is now a DP. His contract runs through ‘25 with an option for ‘26. He’ll also be changing his number to 10. Hope none of you got his jersey for Christmas, lol. https://www.philadelphiaunion.com/n...-daniel-gazdag-new-contract-designated-player

Am I allowed to be disappointed in this offseason so far? Getting that close but not quite winning it makes me hungry for more; not content in staying the course. They're in a window of opportunity and windows of opportunity can close very quickly quickly. I especially wanted to see upgrades to the attacking depth.
Yes, I agree with all that, but if I may offer two counterpoints: 1) in Ernst we trust; and 2) historically, they've pulled off a lot of late-in-the-offseason moves and a lot of those have worked out, so maybe there will be something soon? But yeah, even though this is an awfully tight-lipped front office, to not even have any rumors?
Really good depth signing. https://twitter.com/tombogert/status/1617591377071865856?s=46&t=z53iqwlRT9V5eh2ebKe5vQ
Ernst making moves. Now addresses our need for depth at CB. Sources: Philadelphia Union are acquiring Jamaica int'l center back Damion Lowe in a trade with Inter Miami. @SimeyP93 first reported.Lowe, 29, has 50 caps with Jamaica. He made 28 starts with Miami last season, his lone for the club. pic.twitter.com/4EXYFhcDkd— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) January 24, 2023
