Cincinnati open: The University of Cincinnati announced that it has parted ways with women's soccer coach Neil Stafford. Stafford went 86-79-32 over 10 years with the #Bearcats, including an AAC Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2015. He had one year remaining on his contract.— Justin Williams (@Williams_Justin) November 14, 2022
Being competitive and staying under the radar at Cincinnati might (might) be enough to help you keep your job. Hiring an assistant coach with the worst reputation in women’s college soccer unnecessarily puts you in the crosshairs. The AD at Cincinnati doesn’t feel like dealing with that nonsense, not saying that was the reason, but it certainly didn’t help.
Get over whatever axe you have to grind with his former asst. He got let go now because the AD knows going in the big12 he’s have to give him a couple years and wasn’t prepared to do that. Make the change now with the new coach going in to the new conference.
I am surprised about Stafford. The Cincinnati rank history suggests they have been improving under his leadership -- quite slowly, to be sure. Maybe that is not enough, but it is not a typical letting go.
She was an assistant at BU until last year when Feldman retired. She’s at Penn State this year (and had coached elsewhere before BU)
She’s not wrong and I commented on it a few weeks ago: Going to the Big12 & the AD not wanting to extend makes sense and is probably the biggest reason but putting Anagnost on staff probably didn’t help. As for Nate Lie leaving Xavier and going to Cincinnati, I’m not sure I see it happening unless Lie really likes the idea of Big12 exposure.
Might be something to what you say. Only the second Asst is listed on the website. Stafford. 86-79-32. That’s not bad at all. Especially when you consider they were 46-53-12 in the five years before he got there.

With one year left on the contract there surely must be more to this why not just wait until it expires if there isn’t anything wrong behind the scenes?
Are there typically buyouts required in situations like this, or is that on a contract by contract thing?
I would imagine they will need to pay out the last year of his contract it doesn’t appear he was terminated with cause.

Got to say kudos to Delaware. Took them just 3 weeks to announce a change and then make a pretty solid hire in the end. Well done to the admin there. Also well done to St. John's admin on extending Stone's successful tenure there: https://redstormsports.com/news/2022/11/15/womens-soccer-st-johns-extends-contract-of-ian-stone.aspx
Good moves all around. Any updates on what is happening at ULM? Everyone’s favorite coach I’m sure someone must know what’s happening.
Agree on solid hire, but they had a lot more than 3 weeks to get the process started. Mike was dead man walking from the start of the season unless they pulled a miracle tournament run.
