Whoo! Hoping I can find a solid solution to watch these games by that point. So ready for some soccer!
Also of note is the Athletic is reporting that the first 3 games could be used as qualifying for the USOC.
first game of the season moved to a 7pm kickoff. https://www.newyorkredbulls.com/post/2021/03/19/start-time-new-york-red-bulls-home-opener-moved-8-pm
Fixed for you! Just went from 7 pm to 2 am for me. Sigh. Actually, in this modern world, it doesn't matter, does it? Man, 30 years ago, the way we watch games today would have been science fictiony.
...and yet, so many people who want to watch and would pay for that science fictiony way, can't. some things never change.
the what? is this another dumb attempt to get mls and mx against each other in a tournament no one cares about?
Yes. Last year only 1 MLS team even advanced out of the first round, it's SuperLiga without the group stage. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leagues_Cup
So an annual competition that began in 2019 and was not held in pademic 2020. I can feel the history.
Full schedule is out, we are 1 of only 2 Western Conference teams to play 3 teams from the East (Chicago is the 3rd). 7 national TV dates (1 being Unimas), 4 at home. https://www.sportingkc.com/post/2021/03/24/sporting-kc-releases-2021-mls-regular-season-schedule Date Opponent Time CT (TV) Theme Night Saturday, April 17 at New York Red Bulls 7:00 Friday, April 23 ORLANDO CITY SC 6:30 (FS1) Saturday, May 1 at Real Salt Lake 1:00 Sunday, May 9 AUSTIN FC 6:30 (FS1) Wednesday, May 12 at Houston Dynamo 7:30 Sunday, May 16 VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC 1:00 Soccer For All Saturday, May 22 at San Jose Earthquakes 9:00 Saturday, May 29 HOUSTON DYNAMO FC 7:30 Sporting Sustainability Saturday, June 19 at Portland Timbers 9:30 Wednesday, June 23 COLORADO RAPIDS 7:30 Saturday, June 26 LAFC 4:00 (ESPN) Sunday, July 4 at LA Galaxy 9:30 Saturday, July 17 AUSTIN FC 7:30 Wednesday, July 21 SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 7:30 Sunday, July 25 at Seattle Sounders FC 8:00 Saturday, July 31 FC DALLAS 7:30 Sporting Salutes Wednesday, Aug. 4 at LAFC 9:30 Saturday, Aug. 7 at Colorado Rapids 8:00 Saturday, Aug. 14 at FC Dallas 7:30 Wednesday, Aug. 18 PORTLAND TIMBERS 7:30 Saturday, Aug. 21 at Minnesota United FC 2:30 (ESPN) Saturday, Aug. 28 COLORADO RAPIDS 7:30 Retro Night Friday, Sept. 3 at LAFC 9:00 (UniMas) Saturday, Sept. 11 CHICAGO FIRE FC 7:30 Wednesday, Sept. 15 MINNESOTA UNITED FC 7:30 Sunday, Sept. 26 SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC 5:00 (FS1) Kick Childhood Cancer Wednesday, Sept. 29 at FC Dallas 7:00 Sunday, Oct. 3 HOUSTON DYNAMO TBD Sunday, Oct. 17 at Vancouver Whitecaps FC 9:00 Saturday, Oct. 23 at Seattle Sounders FC 8:00 Wednesday, Oct. 27 LA GALAXY 7:30 Fan Appreciation Sunday, Oct. 31 at Minnesota United FC TBD (ESPN) Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Austin FC 8:00 Sunday, Nov. 7 REAL SALT LAKE 5:00
League also did us zero favors for the Leagues Cup, 8/4 at LAFC 8/7 at Colorado 8/11 at home for the Leagues Cup 8/14 at Dallas 8/18 vs Portland 8/21 at Minnesota Also, semifinal is the week of 9/13, we're playing Minnesota 9/15...
Oh and I forgot to including 7/31 vs Dallas. 7 games in 22 days, 4 on the road in the middle of summer, that is going to suck.
I looked at the schedule a bit closer and found some odd stuff. Like previously noted, there are some jammed up weeks with a lot of games that are going to be challenging for the team. Also, SKC has already played 2 of the three Eastern Conference teams on the schedule with only Chicago remaining. I would like to see more of the EC teams on the schedule. Even with the few EC teams on the schedule, SKC will play the Galaxy and Timbers only once. The other conference teams will come up either 2 or 3 times. The notable 3 timers are Seattle and LAFC. I do understand why they divided the teams into conferences so players wouldn't have to make transcontinental flights just to play league games. But, I would like to see different teams on the schedule rather than seeing teams like Minneapolis, Dallas, and Houston three times a season.
We play both twice, Portland 6/19, 8/18 and LA 7/4, 10/27. We play all Western teams at least twice. I assume that will change back next year assuming things still progress on COVID.
Leagues Cup is official now on the 10th vs Chivas or Club Leon. Give me all the SKCII players for this competition. This stretch is going to SUCK
This stretch is going to suck regardless of the League Cup. MLS has to actually prioritize this thing if they want it taken seriously, by clubs, fans and tv audience. We really could have played at LAFC or at Minnesota or Dallas during this two week break. these sorts of things are always problematic, creating midweek fixtures, but if the league could go Friday night one week and Sunday the next, with no midweeks before or after, they get the best out of SKC and other MLS sides. As it is, this is one more leg in a death march of a schedule. that said, i would hate to lose to Chivas, given their longstanding popularity in KC.
I could not care any less about that. Send the academy kids out to play them for all I care (though I know if it's Chivas Pulido will get at least a token appearance).
I love how they picked both the most congested and the nastiest heat stretch of the year for this crap. Between this and the Nations League international tournament, double Gold Cups... MLS is going to start having to do way more to protect its players. I know it's all marketing but this is going to start taking a real toll on good teams.
