USMNT player ratings: Gio Reyna, Tyler Adams show promise in El Salvador By Jonathan Sigal Friday, Sep 3, 2021, 12:32 AM No [R] in thread title, so: Spoiler (Move your mouse to the spoiler area to reveal the content) Show Spoiler Hide Spoiler Just another shut out for Matt Turner
If you haven't seen the result, don't read the rest of this. Very choppy game. First 10 minutes we actually looked good, but as El Sal got into it, as their fans got into it, the nerves hit our guys. 9 guys who had never played a Qualifier (if I'm not mistaken). Turner made the one save that, honestly, he should have. He also showed his nerves with that mistake in the first half, but we got away with it. Tie on the road, win at home, and you're in the World Cup. Yes, the expectations are high and so we all (or at least most of us) thought this would be 3 points. At the end of the day, take the 1 and beat Canada Sunday and let's get the show on the road.
Yeah, 5 points this week would be good enough - though 6 or 7 would be better. I think we had the better chances, but not by a great margin. OTOH, McKinney should have buried his header. El Salvador did a great job of defending the ball-handler with numbers and we needed to move the ball quicker/cleaner to get into 1v1 situations.
Buksa with 3 as a second half sub. 2 in added time. That is now 4 in 2 games. Hope he brings that back with him.
Buksa is on fiyah! I wonder what kind of delays/quarantine he'll be subject to on his return - love to see him available for Saturday.
If he does continue this type of play for Poland, I can see someone making an offer for him in the winter window. He's only signed through next year, I believe.
Pretty impressive window overall for our 3 world travelers. Will be happy to have them back, and equally glad there is an actual break for the next window. I wonder if we will see any of them in game on Saturday?
Exactly. Also, I think it could be argued that Buksa's change of scenery into MLS and his exposure to Bruce Arena has really served him well in his development.
It's not a full break, as there are four matches taking place. But yeah, most teams do have the time off. The one thing that helps us in our quest for the Shield ... we have 10 games left. Seattle has 13 scheduled, with a 14th possible (12 MLS games, the Leagues Cup Semifinal, and were they to win that, then the final). The Revs have 5 games remaining in September, 4 in October and then the season finale in November. Seattle currently has 5 left this month (with the Final being a possible 6th), 6 in October and 2 in November. So .. in the 58 days from now till the season finale on November 7th, the Revs play a match every 5.8 days. Seattle is currently going to play one every 4.46 days (and that number could reduce to 4.14 if they make the Leagues Cup Final.
I think Turner might start, but I wouldn't gamble on it. I feel fairly confident we'll see both Buksa and Tajon as difference making subs

We should have a contest for the week: which of the three have the most goals scored/penalties saved?
Probably the only time Turner was really tested all night, but still a great save: Señor Turner ☝️#USMNT | #USAvJAM pic.twitter.com/bEH39a7MZW— New England Revolution (@NERevolution) October 8, 2021
Thought Turner struggled a bit last night. His distribution wasn't on par, his touch was bad a couple of times as well.
His first loss with the Nats. USMNT player ratings: Turner, Zimmerman rare standouts in WCQ loss at Panama By Ari Liljenwall Sunday, Oct 10, 2021, 09:28 PM
I don't think there is any question that a sharper player who has seen the field recently would have dealt with that situation better than a player who hasn't had much game time lately. That said, I don't think it was bad for Turner to have some time off or to get Steffan a game.
Its fine on hindsight, but if they had gotten any fewer than 3 points (and being down an early goal lets CR play defensively enough to make fewer than 3 points more likely) then you'd really have to bring the knives out
