    Klimala also missed a PK.

    Yeah, that was one of the 2 cannot-miss chances I was referring to. I went ffom thinking “this is our good luck, we’re gonna get 3 pts” to “oh no, you’re kidding me, that miss might just doom our season”

    Wow that was a frustrating match in DC to watch!

    We totally dominated 1T with 11 (4) shots, compared to their 1 (1).

    And yet they converted their only chance. And that’s all it took.

    We can only blame ourselves.

    Other results tonight didn’t go our way. So our time above the playoff line didn’t last as long as it shoulda.

    BUT we have 1 game in hand so… make it work, and make the playoffs!

    Hosting Montreal, Fabio scored the only goal in the 90+1st minute to get us in playoff position.

    HOLY COW!

    I was just about to give up on the season, when Caden Clark reappears and makes his first real noise since his operation. He lays off the last header for Fabio to score a 90' winner! Fabio?! The man who's done diddly squat for how long?

    NYRB 1-0 Montreal

    3 points for the win. And 10 POINTS FOR EFFORT, especially in 2T when we turned this game around. Well deserved.

    Now we still have a little chance of making the playoffs. With another huge head-to-head matchup next vs ATL.

    COYB!!!

    If we had 2 decent Strikers, I’m convinced we would have made the playoffs already.

    Instead, we are poised to miss out, if 2 results don’t go our way this weekend.

    By almost all accounts we played fantastically tonight…

    Dominated all the stats, pressed ATL out of the game, worked harder, winning the majority of the 50/50’s, brilliant passing, etc.

    Except that our strikers were impotent in front of goal.

    Atlanta clearly were playing for a draw and they got it 0-0.

    I’m almost happy Klimala so stupidly got himself suspended for the final game…

    Let’s shake up the front line and beat Nashville!

    And then Montréal’s result doesn’t matter… they can even win… and in that case if Atlanta loses,it’d be a karma bitch for them.

    At least Klimala occasionally scores. He wasted that 1 on 1 and a couple others. Fabio is the new "king of goals"!!

    For the money we paid for him, Klimala needs to score more than "occasionally". I don't know what his contract terms were but I've just about lost faith with him. His cocky attitude doesn't help... when he's failing to deliver what we bought him for.

    Not to mention a completely stupid throwing-the-ball yellow card late in the match... unless of course it was his master plan idea to get himself taken out of the XI so that someone else can step in at Nashville and save the day. Yeah right!

    And as for Fabio, I lost faith in him a while back. He's technically way behind Klimala, and most other NYRB players IMHO, plus he doesn't seem to have that nose for the goal.

    If I were the boss, and if money weren't an issue, I'd sell or give back both of them, and find someone else... if not from our academy, then from the outside. Obviously it's an absolutely critical position to have quality in.

    p.s. Barlow & White are not the answer either.

    1' and as I was just about to post something like "Fabio better show us that he's not hot garbage" when he beautifully takes down a nice cross from Casseres, turns his man, and tucks in home.

    A dream start! As long as we don't compromise our intrinsic philosophies throughout the remaining 89'... the ones that got us to this place!

    COME ON!

    HT 1-1. They got back into the game and equalized on a fantastic FK. Where we were a little asleep on the near post, as Taylor Twellman rightly pointed out. Could be a tough 2T but fate is still in our hands. If only our boys can feel confident enough and produce one or two moments of brilliance. I.e. Goal(s)!

    HOLY SHIT the end of that game was nerve wracking!

    89' Omir curls it masterfully around the GK but is just 2" too wide and hits the post!

    90' Nashville has a 1-on-1 with Coronel but continuing his MVP play, he comes off his line just quickly enough.

    FT 1-1

    And we just sneak into the final playoff spot.

    Cardiac kids keeping our 12 year streak alive... just barely!!

    Can't believe they pulled that off. I had them dead and buried during the summer.

    https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/no-o...ntinues-new-york-red-bulls-12-year-playoff-st is titled " "No one believed in us": Late surge continues New York Red Bulls' 12-year playoff streak." Through 22 of 34 games (64.7 percent), FiveThirtyEight gave us an 8 percent chance at making the playoffs. We got 23 points (1.05 per game) in our first 22 games, and almost doubled that to 25 points (2.08 per game) in our last 12 games.

    We go to Philadelphia, who got a win and 2 draws against us. They have 6 points points and a goal differential 7 better, and they went 11-3-3 at home. With the Red Bulls, New York Giants, and Hofstra winning the CAA Women's Soccer Tournament, it was a good day for me.

    Round 1 Schedule:
    Sat 11/20/21 2:30pm @Phillly

    A bit of a challenging time for me, given that Arsenal are playing Liverpool at 12:30pm, so there may be a tad overlap... can't recall that happening before.

    p.s. Obviously this is the "regular season" thread but given the paucity of contributors in here, it didn't seem to make sense to create a "post season" thread, so I vote we keep everything here. Plus, what are the chances of us going deep in the post season???? Prove me wrong boys! :)

    Considering we have such low expectations of them this would be the season that they actually make a heck of a run

    We're scoreless in extra time. We have a majority of the possession. Philadelphia has 1 shot on goal, and we just got our first in the 95th minute.

    @kokoplus10
    Can you change the title to "2021 Season [R]" which I think is better than calling it "2021 Regular Season and Playoffs [R]."

    FT UNION 1-0 NYRB

    Crazy 123' winner.

    But WOW what a hard fought, physical, up tempo, tense match! Amazing it finished 11-v-11

    Up until 120 mins, one of the most riveting 0-0 draws I've ever seen.

    Many of our players came up big and I'd like to single out to super solid play by:
    * Coronel
    * Nealis
    * Duncan
    * Gutman

    p.s. The ref played a BIG role in how this match ended up, but I'm not going to blame him.

    Cory Burke had an open shot from just outside the 6 yard box and shot wide. I watched the last few seconds. It went to the 120+5th minute and we ended by heading a shot wide.

    Kevin Thelwell says they're poised to make moves in January.

    I say dump both Klimala and Fabio and get some guys who can actually put the ball on target with some power.
