I'm in the Springs for work and went to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks v Northern Colorado Hailstorm US Open Cup game. Hailstorm won the game in overtime despite having played down a man for most of the game. The game was ill-tempered and badly refereed ... almost as bad as that Rapids Open Cup game against the Atlanta Silverbacks. The center ref didn't seem to understand the concept of playing advantage and lost control early on.
Good job sticking it out on a cold, windy evening! Really disappointed in the Switchbacks losing at home to a short-handed team playing it's first competitive match. Apparently has 25 shots and didn't score in 120 minutes. Awful.
Switchabcks should have burried the Hailstorm. On the flip side.... the Switchbacks have the best record in the entire USLC earning 12 points from 4 matches with three shutouts. At the beginning on the season, I thought it was absolutely nuts, dropping Berry down to a playmaking role after he scored 20+ goals last season. But it's taken pressure off him to be the sole goal scorer and he's looked great as a #10. Michee Ngalina has arguably been the best player this season in the USCL. After his cup of tea with LAFC on loan late last season, he's surely on the radar of other MLS teams. I wonder if the Rapids have taken notice.

Meet the Hailstorm: What to know as Northern Colorado's new pro soccer team opens first season https://www.coloradoan.com/story/sp...-know-new-pro-soccer-team-windsor/9496927002/
We have a bye in this round due to qualifying for the CCL. Northern Colorado will be drawn with another team in its group, which is FSL, Phoenix Rising, and New Mexico United. The two teams that win from that group will likely be put in the same group as us for the next round.

I don't know if anyone here is into mystery shirt boxes, but if so I've just reviewed a number of them on my blog. http://view-from-the-couch.blogspot.com/2022/06/mystery-kit-box-reviews.html
Kroenke story. Like many, we caught Avs fever. I always buy game seven tickets just in case. I immediately go to the website yesterday after the win. Three tickets (first row club corner) that were $1,500 for the third round were $6,000 for the finals. Four times higher. I could not pull the trigger. Glad I didn’t today. But four times higher? Cheapest seat in the arena was $950 on the top row. And they sold out.

I read this the other day and thought it was a very interesting piece on how thee backpass was made illegal. Hard to imagine soccer 30 years ago when a field player could play the ball back to the keeper who could then pick the ball up. Fantastic piece on the backpass law in soccer. I'd raise one objection here - it doesn't mention, not even once, where the law *actually* originated. In the NASL, in the early 80s. The league even submitted it to IFAB/FIFA for consideration. They were laughed out of the building. https://t.co/XScJxwu26V— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) July 20, 2022
