Well, MLS Cup is set. It's Portland and NYCFC. I'm actually looking forward to it! Hope for a great final!
It was modified for soccer. It sits in Goose Hollow. Old games on grass were a muddy mess.It was originally a dog track. The Multnomah Athletic Club has rights to views for any event at the stadium.
I know. I was being facetious. As an NYCFC supporter, it's fun to put the stadium banter on other teams for once.
Boarding a flight this afternoon. Match tickets acquired. Lets go! First outdoor stadium with artificial turf for a minor league baseball team! I care less about it being called a former baseball stadium. I saw my share of baseball games there. I care a lot more if someone says it was built for baseball. Which is factually incorrect.
This game is going to be a ratings disaster for MLS, it's going to be fun watching them spin the numbers.
There has been decent advertising here and there if one watches the ABC/ESPN/ESPN+ slate of sports recently. There just needs more sales pitch of what a Cup Final in pro soccer can deliver. Like how boxing delivers shock results to pull in the Joe Six Pack type of sports fans with not much on TV for this Saturday afternoon. Now that the NCAA gridiron regular season is over, there is no outdoor sporting event to conflict with this season's MLS Cup Final on ABC at 15:00 (3:00PM eastern) so MLS HQ thought that through. Well the traditional Army vs. Navy is set to kickoff on CBS at 3:00PM eastern. Perhaps MLS HQ could have moved kickoff to later on Saturday afternoon eastern time. Making it a 3:00PM west coast time slot.
Good! Pull in that NBA crowd that is tuning in for the Warriors vs. Sixers game and they can watch or ABC just runs the pregame and tipoff on ESPN2 and ESPN+. I mean us soccer folks have endured in the Spring an MLS kickoff on ESPN being delayed by a NCAA women's softball game going long. Now, I love me my women's softball like the next guy so I just stay with the softball until the MLS match is up. Us soccer junkies have been doing this for years right!
Hope it is. Serve them right with how coverage has been and the bs last week. It’s like when the Rams got into the SB on a obvious blown call and the rankings were horrible. Karma.
Can I borrow some tinfoil from you? That 2019 SB had a drop of 5 million viewers from the 2018 SB. The 2018 SB had a drop of 8 million viewers from the 2017 SB. Viewership has been mostly declining since 2015 and there's no blown call that had anything to do with it. Last year's SB was down 7 million from that 2019 game, and still was more watched than every game before 2007.
The ratings of the SB are really insane. we are talking about 7-8 Million dropoff between years, and most of the time it is not even 10% dropoff of the total number. MLS would like to have a MLS CUp Final rating of half of the SB dropoff.
Quite honestly I'm sure the whole thing boiled down to ABC telling MLS: "This is the slot you're getting and you'll like it."
Gotta give credit to the Timbers. At least they went ahead and removed the pitchers mound, too bad they dont have real grass.
Starting my occasional pregame ritual of popping in my “History of MLS Cup” dvd. Really wish they’d done some elaborate 4K blu-ray for 25th anniversary or something.
Almost time. What a roller coaster season for NYC. They've been amazing at times, awful at times, and now hot when they need to be. They went about this in a roundabout way by finishing fourth in the east, but they ended up where they belong considering they have the strongest roster in the league.
