I'm not even that upset. Mexico looked like every other team the US faced. Predictable, indecisive and wasteful. Of course a free kick goal was gonna beat Mexico. Either way, ******** it. If the olympic team win the gold I won't even care to remember this loss. Maybe Lozano can manage the NT better than Tata.
Funes Mori was far from our biggest problem. We got Moreno and Guti getting more NT playtime than club playtime. And MMLSers like Pizarro, Pulido and Jona who shouldn’t be with the NT. And Liga MX guys who simply suck like Salcedo and Chaka. And IMO the biggest disappointment of the tourney, Tecatito. Dude should’ve told Tata he didn’t want to be there and Tata could’ve played a youngster who’d make the most of his opportunity.
Glad the wife and son where born in Spain. Hopefully the little one doesn’t end up rooting for Mexico like his dad… only disappointment and stress. lmao it ain’t that deep I know… but my God… what an awful team and 2 finals.
It’s sad but it’s not really a surprising or earth moving loss, though it’s hard to see how the notoriously knee jerk reaction FMF doesn’t fire Tata. Took Euro talent and failed to win. Brought in someone viewed (right or wrong) as a mercenary who ultimately did not produce at the expense of a beloved player who was in a good moment. Exposed our top player to a brutal injury that could have jeopardized his career (I don’t agree with this line of critique but it’s there). And lastly, lost 2 finals to our biggest rival putting on display the FMF’s failure to support young, home grown players in contrast to the noticeable progress the US has made in player development. This makes him bad for business which is all the FMF cares about.
Didn't Hugo both lose the Gold Cup and also failed to get the U23 team to qualify to olympics, even though they had supposedly a stacked team at that time?
This is a huge terrible loss. We lost to the equivalent of an Liga MX team. We lose the Nations League after playing better than their best team but the loss hits Martino and his credibility so he goes to the Gold Cup squad with his best squad sans Olympic team. And then proceeds to lose against their B/C squad. Martino should have gone to with an lesser team to the tournament and concentrate on the WC qualifiers instead of having the hit of wasting your players pre season and vacation to get a huge momentum hit. And people can act like it isn't but it is. This time they can really go off about the alphabet soup thing because their squad wasn't their best and everybody knew and complained about how Mexico had to sent their best squad to this tournament and the US didn't. And yet that US squad won the tournament The big tournament is in Tokyo but even that doesn't matter with this team since WTF is Martino going to do with them? He's going to keep calling Pulido instead of Chicharito. What a shitstorm of his own creation
Spain ain't winning another WC in their lifetime....maybe a Euro...so a conference title...like the Gold Cup...
