Real Esteli from Nicaragua. That will be a fun road trip. 5000 seat stadium with Astroturf. I assume we play home the second leg. We need at least a draw down there. Can’t overlook it.
Well, Esteli are certainly the best of the "easy" draws. Better than the squads from DR & Haiti, but not as good as the Honduran, Costa Rican, and Mexican squads. Can't overlook them, but we should advance. 1st leg down there? Play the first team for leg one. It is our first game. Hopefully come home with a win. Is this a bracket situation or do they re-seed or do another draw for QFs?
Well, if we want to be champions, we certainly are going to be battle tested for the final. Like @TrueCrew said, Esteli is the best of the minnows. If all goes to form, we get Monterrey next. The semis would be Cruz Azul or Club Leon, with a slight chance of TFC in there.
FWIW, it is a bracket situation Crew vs Esteli winner plays winner of Monterrey (Mex) vs Pantoja (DR). Top half of our side is: Cruz Azul (Mex) vs Arcahaie (Hai) winner plays TFC or Forge FC (Can) vs Leon (Mex) winner. 3 of 4 MEX teams on our side of the bracket. --------------- Other side: MLS vs Costa Rica quarter: Philly vs Saprissa winner against Atlanta vs Alajuelense winner. Honduran quarter: America vs Olimpia winner against Portland vs Marathon winner. --------- We have an easier R16 match than our fellow MLS clubs, but a harder path to the semis/final (other than Toronto).
My god people, it’s like you forgot who we are....we are Columbus f’n Crew S.C. Home of not one but 2 cat mascots. Home of not one but 2 state of the art Arenas within five miles of each other Home of not one but 2 soccer stadiums. The rest of North America can suck it.
I've found a few under 4 minute CCL Game Recaps for Real Estelí. Has anyone found any - recent - full matches for them online anywhere?
I don't think I'll be traveling to any of these away days this year but an away CCL match is absolutely on my bucket list.
If you want to go "no guts, no glory" with risky travel, do the flights with Spirit Airlines as well. Depending on the days, round trip for $250 round trip.
I've kinda checked that one off, as I got to go the the Champions Cup semifinal in Duesseldorf between Gladbach and Liverpool in 1978.
I actually have priced out this trip but just WAY too many issues such as leaving/entering country during covid, missing the home leg due to quarantine, transportation within country, etc.
Costa Rica or Belize are the best spots in Central America, in my view, by far. If we get to the Final and face Saprissa or Alajuelense, it might be worth it. Though both are central (San Jose or Alajuela) rather than coastal. Monterrey is kind of close to the Gulf coast. Cruz Azul and America are based in Mexico City, which is central Mexico. As is Leon
