Is there a reason they shouldn't be?

In my opinion, yes - it's unethical. Coaches getting into relationships with players they coach are taking advantage of a massive power imbalance. Fair enough, we normalized it early in the women's game in this country (Jerry Smith, Bill Palladino, Chris Ducar, Tim Ward, MANY more). I realize not everyone feels this way, and this isn't the thread for it. But you asked, so I answered.

Agreed. Wasn’t the Yale coach dismissed because of prior issues with players when he was an assistant?

it’s been fairly quiet with who is getting a look at which job right now.

Have there ever been any coaches who stepped down for power 5 into something smaller for a change in schedule? NCAA divison 1 to 2/3 or power 5 head to mid major head coach?

Forum favorite Tom Anagnost did this a couple of years ago.

He never worked as a coach for the Atlanta Beat. He was their sales-and-promotions guy and he ran their youth club. If anything, she likely had more standing with the club than he did.

I understand your position regarding power imbalances; it's a position that I agree with. But in this case, it doesn't apply.

Brian Lee left LSU to go to Rice. Theresa Romagnolo left Notre Dame, took a hiatus, and now is at St. Mary’s. Chris Petrucelli is at SMU and just beat his former school Texas. Sure there are others that left P5s, just a few off the top of my head.

    Unfortunately it happens.

You can look to western PA for a coach/staff who survived a similar situation in a previous role as another example. That example has been discussed ad nauseam on these forums for years.

Yeah the Ben Waldrum situation is crazy how he could nail the Notre Dame players
because dad is coach and still keep his job.

Did the Baylor coach get fired or quit? Any insight on why?

    Perhaps for another thread -
Not here to pass judgement without knowing any details but I generally agree that if you are taking advantage of or using your access to student-athletes to develop personal relationships WHILE they are under your supervision, that's a big big problem for several reasons.

I had an asst once who slept with a player and I, with our AD, tried to fire the asst. Found out our school did not have a 'non fraternization policy" so the coach was sent to another office outside athletics to shuffle papers mainly because they lied about it during the investigation.

I've also hired asst coaches who were already dating players on other sports teams and clearly, we just had to deal with it. Also young AC falls for another HC in the department in another sport. Several of these couples later married. Also worked for a coach once who divorced his wife after he fell in love with and later married another head coach in the athletic dept.

These things are a bit more complicated than they appear sometimes.

People being people. Especially when they spend so much time together in a highly emotional and competitive environment. Do most coaches and administrators and supervisors avoid this topic and hope everyone just understands? Good for you for brining it up and dealing with it where you have been. Not an easy situation.

Coach Jobson did not marry a player. He was working in the ticket office or something like that, while also working at a youth club as a coach. His wife was a pro player. So they probably met outside of the playing field. I am sure at a Christmas party or something like that. I wish coach Paul well on his new career opportunities

It is never appropriate for a coach or assistant coach to date a player on the current team. Talk about poor judgment, a conflict of interest in decision-making, and stirring up drama on the team. There is nothing to consider here. It is wrong in every scenario. If they are determined to date this individual, then they should resign and find another job that doesn't conflict with this relationship.

I see Oklahoma opening and UCLA likely opening very soon as coach is headed to the NWSL. CSUN is matter of time and I know of another opening coming in Jan...
