Centermid5, agree Mark Carr has a pretty poor record as a college coach (and also youth national team coach for that matter). But what are the "dozens" of abuse claims? That's a pretty serious statement and want to know if there is actually any merit to that. Lots of posters making that claim here on this board and no specifics behind them so looking for a little clarity.
This is where it is all about who you talk to. I have heard that the new AZ coach is well liked, and a breath of fresh air for the program. It is all about which player(s) you talk to then. Kagan is an example of the good 'ol boy network in full display.
Kagan also knew what took place at Miami and I guess he didn't think it was a big deal, certainly not a big enough deal to go back to working for him again at MSU. Kagan sure was influenced by him. GR knew what took place and did his best to take care of his friend to help back into the women’s game. Not sure how TS and MB at NC State didn’t know what took place at Miami, as every college coach and youth club coach in the nation heard what took place. The AD at Miami knew and the AD at UCI gained a greater understanding of him in a short time, and they did nothing but pass the guy on again. Stafford didn’t know? Really??? Lots of dirty people, more knew, and these guys are now head coaches. Oh the good 'ol boy network in full display and has been for years.
Kagan getting the Wash State job is the same as the Jacksonville coach who was terrible going to LSU. Good ol’ girls club. But for once we are in agreement Kagan should never have gotten another opportunity based on the reports out of the Oregon state program. But that seems to have been a blessing as Sinacola is doing well there this year based on the results.
thanks. i scrolled through their game summaries - the same players played throughout the season, looks like.
I believe in supporting good men and women and not recycling ones that continue to be unfit for coaching.
Very different situations. The Jacksonville coach struggled as a head coach with results. She may be a better assistant than head coach, or she was just not a fit at Jacksonville. She was not accused of misconduct. Unlike the OSU coach.
Interesting. I had heard from one of their staff members they had some major injuries this season but that’s all I was told. No other info.
SFU went from the top of the conference to the bottom because of an unqualified coach who could not develop any players. She had no experience coaching a good D1 program. The team had just as much talent as Brenda had but when coaches don't have any coaching ability you are going to lose. Hopefully they make a change soon, she already set the team back at least 5 years.
It seems the stance on this forum is to first question any claims of abuse but in reality it takes a lot to speak up about abuse because of fear of retaliation. I doubt anyone with the facts and details about these situations would feel safe to openly share them here. Too much risk of harm back to the player. Players do not have any power in their world and we have seen, especially of late, how often a coach can abuse that power for years with no one taking action or believing the victims.
Totally disagree with that sentiment 2233soccer. The players and now also disgruntled parents have a lot of say and it carries weight, way too much unfortunately. Doesn't take much for the right buzzwords to be used and an administration to cave in. What you mentioned may have been true a decade ago but that's not the landscape now. I think accountability is certainly a good thing but the tilt has shifted far the other way. Kids can unionize and they can actually now $ profit with name, image, and likeness and that wasn't even a casual consideration a few years ago. It's gone way over to the players' hands now. By the way, this all started with my curiosity of the "dozens of abuse claims" about Carr.
Totally agree. Accusing someone of abuse is a serious term. The only example that really sounds like abuse is the person who said McLain pushed a player over which if true would be abuse. So many athletes and parents just want to complain because their kid doesn’t get the playing time they think they are entitled to. If people have actual incidents they can describe about coaches being abusive that would provide some credibility to their claims , otherwise it is just hearsay
It is a very serious term. One that shouldn't just be thrown around. Carr was investigated by NCAA at USF for abuse. Look who his assistant coached with for the English Women's National Team. Look at the turnover of his staff and players. These can all be coincidences but unfortunately are not.
"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" You might not ever hear anything "concrete" or you might, but it doesn't mean it did not happen.

Was told by someone who knows him that him and his wife got COVID really bad and that he decided to retire and spend more time with family.
Coach stepped away to pursue other opportunities is my understanding. Maybe a professional rodeo clown, or snake charmer, the options are almost endless. Either way Roger is a nice guy who did a good job there. Hope his associate head coach gets the nod. Nice campus and Tulsa is a decent city.
