No surprise on this one, but Lindsey Wilson names a Blue Raider product and assistant coach the next head coach of the program. Sicelo Buthelezi takes over for Ray Wells after his retirement after 32 seasons and 562 wins. The "official" replacement takes place after the school year, but transition is happening currently.

Nothing coming out of UMass/L tonight; https://twitter.com/riverhawkmsoc?lang=en I wonder if Figueroa is the pick at Northeastern?
Maybe, but they haven’t been great recently and the announcement on their website was about the shortest I’ve ever seen.
... but if this is the case, other than this year and the Covid year, the Lowell coach's record is astronomically better than the guy he is replacing... and that is the shortest statement in history.
Figueroa's AC is off the web page as well. I think we'll see both at Northeastern. I went to one of their matches a few years ago and roster had more Eastern Euros than Pitt. Good player good coach.
Not just mid-majors…ACC hovers around 100 internationals any given year (take a look at Pitt, NC State, UVA rosters). National Champion Clemson regularly has half its starters as international. Would suggest that without international presence, D1 college soccer would be more average than it already is. Internationals at D2 and NAIA probably make up the bulk of the better squads. The better the MLS and USL Academies do the worse I fear for college soccer (quality wise)
Do you mean fear for the American player in college? Because of the internationals, the quality is as good as it has ever been. Georgetown, Indiana, and Washington have done it with mostly American players. My question was are there any mid-majors that have won (Past round of 32) with mostly American players in the last 5-7 years ?
In terms of winners at least, Stanford is the only one that jumps to mind in terms of 100% American players in their great runs of 2015-2017. After that there has always been an international presence..MD had 7 in 2018, GTown had 4 in 2019, Marshall had 23 in 2020. I don’t have all the numbers on last 5 years for round of 16 but a quick look some teams this year (internationals I mean)..Oregon State (16),Tulsa(9),Kentucky(10), Providence(10), Marshall (25) Creighton(10),Denver(3), UNC(9),UNH(12),WVU(15) With talent it is a great time to be American born, given the opportunity (MLS Academy level) you now have to be able sign pro or have college paid for with college scholarship. However, for the ‘average’ player there will be less opportunity given the way coaches feel they need to select now in order to be competitive and keep their jobs

After about ten days now, certain media are catching up with the UML coaching dismissal. https://www.nesoccerjournal.com/umass-lowell-seeks-new-coach-after-parting-with-christian-figueroa/ Still not much in the way of information, though. As for Brown they have not rushed things which I attribute to lots of interviews. We shall see what develops.
