Will Forbes is a clown. He claims to be “connected” but the reality is he’s a fan-boy tossing out hideous and false rumors. If he’s not tossing out false info, he’ll just piggyback off others who are respected by saying “my sources have confirmed what XYZ has already said”. I’d love to be wrong about him but his track record isn’t good.

You’re largely right but it’s clear he has some contacts. Probably a mid-level person in the FO or a bunch of agents. I know he’s been on the right track of a few things that weren’t public in the past, but he presents them as much further along than they really are. So at best I expect Arsenal enquired about the price for Trusty out of a possible interest (especially with two of our young guys training with them this offseason) but there’s no more to it than that.

    Yeah, an none
Given the Rapids history of doing the exact opposite, I'm taking a wait and see.

I tend to scroll past his posts unless there’s a key work like “Rapids” that catches me eye. Maybe his contacts have become more reliable in the past 18 months.

That's precisely why I posted it as an "FWIW". But also FWIW, he was the first to reveal/confirm the Galvan transfer. And although he overstated a couple things, he was also early/first in the rumor on Namli... among others.

With the accurate scoop on Galvan, it's possible his inaccuracies/behaviors of the past may not represent the present. But again, who knows. FWIW.

UK Work permit criteria are pretty well defined these days (old days you made a case), no way will he get one.

Well, lets see here. Last time we were in the CCL, Anthony Hudson was coach and it was a tourney that would be "taken seriously."

    Round 1 away to Toronto?

    Howard
    Hairston - Ford - Smith - Wynne - Castillo
    Enzo Martinez - Price - Adjei-Boateng
    Badji - Mcbean

    Bench:
    Wilson - Aigner - Blomberg - Jackson - Hamilton - Serna - MacMath

And Joe Mason had just been signed to his loan to the 'Pids that day.

Ended in a wonderful 2-0 loss where the Rapids had a nice Hudson day of possessing the ball at 38%.

This lineup was essentially the same for our home game for round 2:

    MacMath
    Smith - Wilson - Ford
    Wynne - Blomberg - Price - Enzo - Hairston
    Badji - Mcbean

    Bench:
    Howard - Castillo - Miller - Jackson - Hamilton - Serna - Azira

0-0 draw, but we improved our possession to 41%.....

Before then, you have to go back to 2012 as the last time we played in the CCL.

If I was a fan of Los Cremas, and I was looking at that? I would be confident too.

However, 2022 Rapids are DRAMATICALLY different than 2018 Rapids. As has been stated before elsewhere, the Rapids actually have a decent change to make a splash in this years tournament.

    upload_2021-12-21_14-25-24.png

If we beat the 2021 CONCACAF League Champs 'Los Cremas' (not to be confused with the CONCACAF Champions League tournament which was won by Monterrey) we go on to face the winners of NYCFC and Santos De Guapiles.

My money is on NYCFC. Which means we have a very real chance of playing what should have been this years MLS cup matchup.

IF we beat NYCFC, then we face whoever is left standing of
    Guastatoya
    Leon
    Motagua
    Seattle Sounders

My money here is on a Leon vs Seattle matchup - and I think Leon would pull that one out. Hard to say though. Ruidiaz and Morris could do Ruidiaz and Morris things.

    Anyways. The path is clear.

Beat Communicaciones - beat NYCFC (most likely) - beat Seattle / Leon - and we're in the CCL Finals.

Fraser's a smart coach. I trust he'll make the right calls with players / formations / tactics to face Communicaciones.

I WOULD NOT be surprised to see us take a hard fought point on the road against Communicaciones. I would also not be surprised to see us lose the game - but in a 2-1 fashion.

And then I think we take the victory at home at DSGP either on aggregate or total points after the road draw.

    From the article……..

Trusty, Bassett, Acosta, and Lewis all have suitors. The 50% sell-on fee for Acosta has expired but there is a 30% fee for Trusty which will have to factored in when receiving offers.

Looks like the Rapids will be playing their first US Open Cup match on May 10 or 11 in the round of 32. The draw for the round of 32 takes place April 22.

Trusty's sell on clause drops to 25% after 2021, so unless he's sold in the next week+ we'll get 5% more of the sale.

Wonder who they are targeting in the re-entry draft:

    Lost of eligible players:

    https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/2021-mls-re-entry-draft-eligible-player-list

Robert Beric from Chicago seems like a possible option. Out of favor MLS player. As a striker for Chicago he’s amassed 20g/4a in the last two seasons. Also had plenty of experience across Europe.

    Just a guess tho.

Beric's numbers suggest he could perhaps be a 10 goal striker for another year or two. He's 30-- will turn 31 in June. I think you can't bank on him to make a huge difference offensively, though.

...and they pick Bryan Acosta. A central midfielder. This would make it appear Acosta and/or Basset are possibly getting sold in January.

According to Transfermarkt he’s an attacking central midfielder. Don’t recall what role he’s had with FCD. Assume he’ll take an int’l slot.

    Aaaaaand SKC grabbed Beric.

Think that was a big missed opportunity right there. I think Beric would've been a perfect fit for our system - and I imagine he'll score plenty of goals in Kansas City.

    Our pick is puzzling.

Picking up a central mid whose salary in 2021 was $650k when we already have a stacked midfield....especially considering that you've already declined Nico at $320k to be a bench position.

As said above, we've got to have some deals in motion for Acosta/Bassett. We just have to.

You don't spend 1mil on Kaye last year, and then this year drop $75k to trade up to get B. Acosta at a higher salary than Mezquida and have all these guys rotating on the field and on the bench. Players have definitely got to be on the move for all of this to make sense. (of course, the midfield only gets more packed if the rumors and reports about Max are true as well)

These next few weeks are going to be very interesting to see all the roster movement that happens

I like Bryan Acosta a lot. He’s got little bite in him - evident by his discipline record - and he keeps possession well (87% MLS competition rate) and looks to play forward. At FCD, I always thought B. Acosta should have played a more advanced role instead of a hybrid 6/8. You could kind of tell he was told to play a little deeper and I think that hurt his effectiveness. But look…. B. Acosta’s signing makes very little sense if Bassett and/or K. Acosta is returning. Something is brewing. Something is definite up. I am eager to find out. Kaye, Bassett, K. Acosta, Price, and B. Acosta can’t exist in the same midfield.

According to this DP article, the Rapids have seven days to make bona fida offer to Bryan Acosta. Not sure what happens if he doesn't want to sign with the Rapids. And I wonder if the Rapids will attempt to negotiate a salary that is lower than what he was getting at FCD ($650,000)? However, this is less than what Kellyn Acosta has been getting.

^Looks like this for sure. And has been the case in recent seasons, it seems that Pádraig has anticipated the transferring of multiple players this January.

At this point it looks like this:

    Out:
    Younes Namli (Int'l)
    Cole Bassett (assumed)
    Kellyn Acosta (assumed)

    In:
    Max (Int'l) (assumed)
    Bryan Acosta (Int'l) (assumed)

If this is the case, the Rapids would need another international slot. And this doesn't take into account the possibility of signing an int'l DP.

And there's still the possibility that Trusty and Lewis will be sold in the upcoming window. I am not buying the Price rumors.

I was hoping the Rapids could keep most of the most core players for another full season but clear that isn't going to happen. Hopefully those coming in will fit in immediately and help keep the Rapids in the top tier of MLS.

What I’ve heard is that there’s a group of green cards incoming, so international slots shouldn’t be a concern.

    Random thoughts:

    • Assuming Acosta is transferred and we know that Namli is gone, that lightens the Rapids salaries by about $2,300,000.

    • Acosta must be careful about his position with the national team. So if he is going to be on a European club next season it's imperative he gets a lot of playing time in a solid league.

    • Bassett should not settle for a gig with a second team. He should be getting first team playing time at this point in his career.

I'm still holding out hope that Trusty stays for another season.

Looks like there are going to be more departures of core players than I was hoping for. At the same time, I trust that Pádraig and Co. have got a solid group of newcomers coming is so that success on the pitch continues.
