Recent statement from the foundation that awards this: After much consideration and discussion, the Supporters' Shield Foundation has decided to forego awarding the Supporters' Shield for the 2020 season. This is not an easy decision to make. With the inability for supporters to be in attendance and fill their stadiums with passion, however, we feel as though the current climate goes against the spirit of the Shield. The Supporters’ Shield Foundation stands with our players and our supporters in knowing that this year has been one of many challenges, and we commend the support and effort given to making the best of the 2020 season as it has been. With no 2020 winner to house the Shield, we will be taking 2021 as a means to spread the word and spirit of the shield across the entire league. We look forward to educating supporters on the Shield’s history and passion, as well as welcoming new supporter groups to MLS. As long as it can be safely done, the Supporters’ Shield will be going on tour in 2021 so that as many supporters as possible may be able to see and learn about this wonderful symbol of North American soccer. On behalf of the Supporters' Shield board, we hope everyone remains safe. We look forward to awarding the Shield to the winners of the 2021 season.
Perusing the inter webs on the subject leads me to believe the only people on earth who agree with this decision are the people who made it. Anyway big engraved shields are a bit pricy but I would be more than willing to go in for a nice engraved plate or something to present and/or throw on the field if the u can pull it off. You know, a little something for the effort.
Dumb decision. TFC are camped out in another country. If they finished at the top of the table.. they will have earned it.
Well shit. Union aim for the Supporters’ Shield knowing Jamiro Monteiro could miss the start of the playoffs https://t.co/2MpYcOsyUl— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) October 28, 2020
Did we just officially earn a spot in next years Concacaf Champions league? Can Seattle catch us at this point or do we still need a point more? Official announcement from MLS this afternoon With multiple MLS clubs set to finish the 2020 regular season without playing a full 23-match schedule due to COVID-19, Major League Soccer confirmed that qualification for the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs will be determined by points per game. Points per game will also be used to determine the overall MLS standings, with the top U.S.-based team earning a berth in the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League. (Canadian clubs earn qualification to the Champions League via the Canadian Championship.)
If we get at least one more point Seattle can't catch us. The only way they can catch us at all is to win out all 3 of their remaining games or win two and have one canceled. TFC can catch us tho so its still on like donkey kong.
Per Tannenwald’s article today, a win today vs Columbus = the Shield! I’ve been confused about the math, the switch to points per game, etc., but that makes it simple. So, let’s get that first trophy today!
Interesting penalty for Toronto. Just watched the PK call against Inter Miami's Sweat that gifted Toronto a win. That was as soft a call for a penalty I've seen since Lamela's dive against Liverpool a few years ago.— Doug Roberson (@DougRobersonAJC) November 2, 2020
Congratulations to you guys! The CCL is an incredibly fun tournament to be a part of and I hope you go all out on it next year. Some of the most memorable moments in team history for us (TFC) have been in the CCL. I've never understood the teams that don't prioritize it.
Nice article on how the roster was built: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...t-supporters-shield-contending-team-two-years
