Interesting but utterly unworkable - 17-20% of capacity left to sell to public? Other than NFL no league can survive on that unless salaries are cut 50% to players Long-term revenue problems? After analyzing the spacing of the minor league stadium, Barnum said capacity estimations came in around 17-20% of what stadiums are built to hold, which causes revenues issues.
Are you really asking a very loud trumpet to listen to scientific data? They can't put down the megaphone long enough to actually hear anyone else....
This is just shocking, tragic, horrific news - imagining actually attempting to reopen!!!!!!!:::::: https://www.click2houston.com/news/...businesses-including-restaurants-hair-salons/
It was amazing weather here in the Gulf Coast South this weekend. Well, a little rain, but a dose of Sun and warmth with cool temps at night. Too bad us in Houston are not down at BBVA to take in a good night of footy! Here's to getting back there sooner rather than later! DALE DYNAMO!!!
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020...evolution-president-what-drives-brian-bilello Found this today as well. A old Revs die hard, that was in their Supporters Section in the 90's now leads their FO! Sounds like he's got insight other FO's can only dream of. Bolded for a good take. I sure wish our Dynamo FO had someone that has been there since day 1 helping them understand what makes Houston's culture so soccer savvy and genuine! from the article: He now keeps a wall of Revs scarves displayed in his office, and one in particular, from 1998, helps keep him grounded. “It's an old, ratty scarf with autographs on it, and I just want to keep it on my wall because it reminds me of being that fan and being in the stands and supporting the club and what it was like,” he said. “I'm blessed to have that viewpoint. It can’t always drive every decision you make; there's certain things you can and can't do. But I feel like I always have that perspective and I always try to lean on that.” There have been ups and downs. Several years ago, Bilello had to navigate a conflict with some supporters over the prevalence of cursing in their songs and chants. On a more positive note, he’s proud that New England season-ticket packages include one away match experience, in which the club pays for travel and a seat at the away ground, usually one of their I-95 rivals. He speaks fondly of New England’s memorable playoff match in 2014 where some 1,200 fans were bussed to Red Bull Arena and witnessed a road win that helped propel them into the MLS Cup final. “Soccer’s always going to be different than other sports, because of that communal aspect of being a fan, being with others, cheering, singing, all those fun things that other sports don't have,” he noted. “We can't make that culture, because it's not the club's culture, really, it's the fans’ culture, it's a supporters’ culture. So we talk about that: How do we amplify that culture, and what can we do to help our fans build that culture?
Well the mask order seems to be having an effect. I didn't get out yesterday but I went to Kroger today and there were substantially more people wearing masks. I would say 90% or more.
This is a MUST watch for anyone that is a Houston Dynamo fan n supporter! Stuie has some great stories, some that you should recall if watching back when we were at The Rob, and as well Calen Carr is on point in this. ENJOY! https://www.houstondynamo.com/post/2020/04/24/kick-around-calen-carr-and-stu-holden?autoplay=true
Yup! Those nights, Saturday nights that is as OL kept to creating the tradition of Houston being a place where our MLS team always kicked off at 7:30 on Saturday nights at the Rob, the joy of the hincha life and then those post game nights were amazing fun. I wondered then and still do...what in the hell did I do BEFORE we got a Division1 team back to our great city?!? Perhaps hang out, bar hop with buddies, but nothing compares to going out to a live footy match! To hear Stuie's stories of the fun him and Ching and the guys had living all that back then is tremendous! I mean they move here, have no idea what to expect, win two league titles and turned an old World War II era works project stadium into a fortress! IIRC our win percentage in the Rob era was .713%. That as well is amazing to think on! We beat Pachuca in the Rob as well. If Zamunda had taken an actual PK over being a cheeky idiot on Calero, we beat that Liga MX team a second time. Yowza!
Well worth a listen - Dom, Bobby, Eddie, Will, Corey reminiscing on when the organization GAS https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/city-of-soccer-special-the-streak/id1500829753?i=1000473057696
Dynamo ranked as lowest fan confidence in ownership: Over 2,000 #MLS supporters filled out our detailed survey on the league, its clubs, and what should come next. Today, @samstejskal sifts through your responses: https://t.co/cnxLMfKNCT pic.twitter.com/kcrqT8Npf3— The Athletic Soccer (@TheAthleticSCCR) May 1, 2020 “When it came to antipathy towards owners, however, no one could touch Houston supporters. They crushed the Dynamo’s Gabriel Brener-led ownership group, giving it a 1.68 average confidence rating — the lowest mark in the league by a full point. The roster didn’t fare much better, netting the lowest average rating in the league at 4.46. Houston’s composite score wasn’t just the worst among current teams, it was actually worse than 2021 expansion club Austin FC, which hasn’t yet signed a player and doesn’t yet have a roster to rate. Comments from Dynamo supporters reflected the results in a big way. “This ownership group is atrocious,” wrote a responder in one representative response. “They have no interest in improving the team, they have no interest in fan engagement. They’re just waiting on appreciation of their investment to sell it to the highest bidder.”
Do any of these people realize we may never get a vaccine and that “flattening the curve” is not the same as “preventing anyone from ever getting sick again”? Curve flattened, let’s move on - but then again if all you do is watch CNN and MSNBC all day you get a little mentally challenged If you have to go out, please wear a mask and practice correct distancing to show respect for the people around you. We are all in this together, everyone, around the world. Let’s all do our part. Everybody. That’s all. Don’t get mad at me.... 🌎🌏🌍 ☮️— Web 🕸 Tilton ☮️🚴🏼 (@webtilton) May 4, 2020
I think this person allegedly covers the Dynamo - does she not understand that the credibility of the local political leaders is completely shot by pumping up the doom and fear while hospitals are empty and doctors are financially going under? Now We have snitch lines (funny that Hidalgo wants people snitching but doesn’t want to help ICE enforce laws) and silly mask ordinances and taking down basketball rims at parks for no reason I guess Houston and surrounding areas don’t understand this. I was driving today and so many places were packed NO social distancing. We have done so good.... and it can all be ruined in a second and back to full closure again 😒. #WearAMask https://t.co/qiaOLO9bAJ— Laura M. Gómez (@LauraGomezNews) May 4, 2020
I think we will get a vaccine. Massive, perhaps unprecedented, amounts of effort are working on one. Who knows, this could be a huge human success story. Imagine the financial benefits if one of the pharma companies gets it right.
I'm not sure about financial benefit for pharma - We bought some shares in the first US company to begin testing a vaccine, but the stock market is so volatile right now that you would think the shares should be performing well - they're not. I think that probably a pharma company with a larger portfolio of medicines and vaccines would be a better bet. But then what the heck do I know - I bought one share of Wynn in support of Steve a couple of years ago.
The interesting thing about these Executive Orders being floated by Hidalgo is that the mask order was contested in Harris County Court and her attorneys response was that (1) The order was actually unenforceable, and (2)She could not be sued because she was not the party that would be responsible for enforcing it.
I read the Hotze lawsuit and skimmed the County's reply brief. The County went to all of the normal reasons why the plantiff didn't have standing, sued wrong person, etc. She's an unqualified accidentally elected judge (note that Ellis and Adrian Garcia don't seem to show up to support her - they are backing away probably to challenge her in 2022) who is making things worse by doubling down on really stupid things that only people like Web Tilton thinks are good ideas and damaging whatever credibility she may have had. Now she sets up a snitch line to get back at the conservatives by saying she's just "helping enforce Gov. Abbott's orders" while Turner comes out and says they don't have the manpower to enforce it. Interestingly, in St. Louis County, MO they did the same snitch line and someone did an open records request to out all of the rats and I think the AG ruled they could not redact that information of complainer.
I guess the EaDo area around the stadium isn’t as hot as everyone thinks it is - why would an owner sell out to a housing authority in a climbing neighborhood? “The Houston Housing Authority is considering acquiring a high-end apartment complex in Houston’s East Downtown district as part of an effort to expand the city’s affordable housing options. HHA’s board of commissioners has authorized Interim President and CEO Mark Thiele to begin negotiating to buy Circuit Apartments, a 321-unit multifamily development located at 2424 Capitol St. Circuit is located across the street from BBVA Stadium, which is home to the Houston Dynamo and Houston Dash soccer clubs. Circuit Apartments is owned by Dallas-based JLB Partners. The apartment complex was completed in 2012. The Houston Business Journal has reached out to JLB Partners for comment. Circuit sits on two parcels, and the entire property had a combined valuation of $59.3 million as of Jan. 1, according to Harris County Appraisal District records. Thiele was cleared to open negotiations with JLB Partners during a March 24 meeting of HHA’s board. Should the deal go through, HHA plans to convert at least 156 units into housing for middle-income residents, with the remaining units continuing to rent at market rates, according to a March 10 memo sent to Thiele by Cody Roskelley, vice president of real estate investment and development at HHA. The workforce housing at Circuit, if the deal is approved, would cater to residents earning about 80 percent of the median income in the surrounding area. That comes to about $53,400, according to data provided by HHA”
So if the deal goes through I guess 59 million is removed from the tax roles which would also affect the TIRZ
Interesting punt on the part of the Texas Supreme Court regarding Executive Orders in sending it down to the court of first jurisdiction. Their comment that "If we tolerate unconstitutional government orders during an emergency, whether out of expediency or fear, we abandon the Constitution at the moment we need it most." to me is the most relevant. https://reason.com/2020/05/05/texas...HEoZde9CdAwStnQPuhpWLcn1S7WUbUh8Xzg4D9Dic47RU
I read a different article yesterday that highlighted the comment, showing that the courts are starting to evaluate limits to all of these orders. Its a problem but all of the doomers and socialists don't think so. I don't think even Abbott should have as much power as he does (although if he didn't wield it then the county judges would and that seems worse). This pandemic has had far too much of this decision-making process: Governor declares disaster . . . which gives them latitude . . . to then impose new laws and regulations . . . taking away constitutional rights . . . not authorized by legislatures . . . under the defense of "its a disaster" which they have the unilateral right to declare. In Texas, the County Judges have started to exercise this form of dictatorial rule as well. At least we are in Texas, imagine being in New Jersey or California, where they urinate on the Constitution.
It’s really too bad Jay Adelberg went private on twitter, I’m sure is virus-related content is chock full of absurd thoughts that would be funny Exactly what I was thinking too. Scientists are saying it’s going to be bad later this summer or fall, and all those idiots (from the President on down to the people locally) will be looking for someone to blame.— Web 🕸 Tilton ☮️🚴🏼 (@webtilton) May 8, 2020
